Ingo has a punchers chance, but not much of one against Quarry IMHO. I'm bettin' Irish on this one

Exactly as I see it.

We've been agreeing lately, BB, something must be wrong. :D

Mayan calendar ends in 2012, and if you listen close you can hear the galloping sounds of the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse. I'm fairly certain the time space continuum is about to rip asunder.

So the timing is about right.

By the way remind me here, did anyone put Quarry down with a single punch when he was at the top of his game? I know Foreman has claimed he didn't want much to do with him based on his resiliency. So that punchers chance is pretty slim for my money.

I think Quarry wins but could go down, after some hard
blows from Ingo. It is safe to say that Quarry lands the
cleaner more consistent shots, but then again Ingo was
no slouch and was the more consistent performer in his
career.

Pity the mayans never predicted their demise.

I think Quarry was dropped by single punches from Joe Alexander and "Memphis" Al Jones. I haven't seen video of the fights but I think I read that the knockdowns were from single punches. The fights happened when Quarry was young and at his best.

Quarry had one of the greatest chins in the HW division . . ever . . .period. The bombs he took from Frazier, Norton and Lyle alone should have sent most men out of the ring on stretchers.

Quarry was never truly knocked 'out' EVER in his career, unless you want to get technical and claim his quarter of a second short up on the Chuvalo KD was a KO.

Quarry could be down but he;s the much more complete fighter to Ingo.

Also, if Ingo had faced the guys Quarry did in his career, he would've never been champ and not been nearly as 'consistent' as his career was.

Quarry was there to be hit, & Johansson, for all of his considerable faults, had a well-timed, decisively straight right hand. His uppercut was also an under-rated blow. Quarry was hurt fairly badly & put on queer street by Ali's relatively-light punches in their rematch, so I don't hold his chin in the same regard as some do.

I'm not seeing the foregone conclusion some here apparently are.

I always found it strange that Quarry was hurt by Ali but for whatever reason he was. The Ali fight is not really symptomatic for Quarry and his ability to take punches though. Quarry was put down a couple of times, I have seen the Alexander fight and the left hook Alexander landed was huge but Quarry got up and stopped him in the next round.
Johansson is probably a bit underrated and while I favor Quarry to beat him it would be no walk in the park for Jerry.

Yes the Alexander shot was huge, and Joe was probably one of the hardest punchers I've ever seen. However, I think I'd go along with Irene on this becuase many are underrating Ingo. I would say this matchup is just about a toss up, with Quarry a slight favorite.

Chuvalo knocked Quarry out with one punch... or at least put him down for 10 and 1/1,000,000 of a second. I do think Quarry must've blacked out for a moment while he was on his knees which is what caused him to lose track of the count. But that doesn't mean Quarry didn't have a granite chin, which of course he did. Everybody gets hit once in a while.

This has the makings of a boring fight. 2 counter-punchers at heart, but Ingo was smarter and more patient. In addition, I think Ingo's defensive skills were under-rated. Quarry was stronger and, I think, a lot more durable, both in terms of stamina and ability to absorb punishment, but patient he was not.

I think these guys would circle and wait and a very boring fight would break out -- a'la Johansson-Cooper. I think Quarry would lose patience first, charge in, and begin firing. Very likely he could run into one... or two. [Again, a'la Johansson-Cooper.] If Ingo puts one on Quarry's chin, or even high on those paper-thin eyebrows, who knows..?

At the end of the day, I'd make Quarry the favorite but not by much. I would not consider it a big upset at all if Johansson won.

..quarry doesn't get up from a knockdown because he doesn't GET knockdown. ingo would hit quarry with his right and quarry would shake it off (few remember that earnie shaver swatted some good ones that landed on quarry before quarry knocked him out in the first round) and beat the hell out of the front running swede and knock him out in an early round.

this is a silly fantasy match.

Oh no Quarry would never get knocked down....

Mr E, good run down. You may just be very right as to how you
see this fight playing out.

Agreed. People are over-estimating Quarry if they are making him a huge favourite, which is the feeling I get from reading some of the takes here.

Johansson's chances, in my book, are close to even with Quarry's. I class them as on essentially the same level, & each can hurt the other --- I fail to see why Quarry would be a sure-fire bet.

Johansson was a one-trick pony. Quarry was not. I fail to see at all how one could say they are 'evenly matched' here. Quarry had the better defense, better overal skils, much better durability. Ingo has the better punch and is more dangerous early, but nobody ever KO'd Quarry early.

Save for his very last fight at the end of a long career, nobody else ever took out Machen --- a better fighter than Quarry --- early, either, & that includes a peak Liston (I know Machen ran for large stretches, but nevertheless).

Quarry had the better chin, stamina, & was quicker with his hands. He was also less measured, & more prone to hot-headed errors of judgement. I don't buy he's immune to Johansson's punches, either. His chin is over-rated. Johansson had the timing to do this. It's a dangerous fight for Quarry.

Ingo earned the strap. He was the more consistent fighter, even if he did fight less and
faced less ATG;s etc.

Quarry faced nearly every one at the top or near it at when he was active, Quarry
was inconsistent. The man failed against the best of his era, every chance he had he
fell short.

Ingo is a good match up for Quarry. I think Mr E perhaps described how this bout would
play out nicely. Quarry would be steady and look to work his right hand into the game
and would in my estimations land his left hook nicely. But we all know for a fact that Ingo
has one shot power. He KOd Machen in the first, and as GI said, that is no easy thing.
He also KOd a peak Patterson, Quarry struggled twice with an aging Floyd.

I like most here favour Quarry, but DF, how you think it will be a walk over for him, or that
Ingo is over matched is a tad off in my opinion.
