Danny was a great talent but mentally he was never there out of the ring IMO.

I'm glad he had his moment in the sun after beating Tyson, but it was the highlight of a checkered career.

Always liked him though.....shows he beat some top guys and could have had an even better record had he made some better choices..

Choosing someone other thanb Klit to go for after Tyson for starters - though you can't knock his bravery - and not show boating against Sprott...

Sorry I never bought into the fairy tale that was Danny Williams he came to the ring neither physically nor mentally prepared for battle sometime one sometime the other but never both together,He had his day in the sun against a badly shop worn Tyson but apart from that I can't think of any Williams fight that I would cross the road to watch.
On the few occasions that I was at a show where he was (shall we say performing) he never failed to disappoint.
In my book a boxer who can't control his weight whether he is a straw weight or a heavy is a boxer without discipline
Him no longer appearing in a boxing ring will not disappoint me

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! Let's see... one-armed win over Potter, coming back from two brutal rounds to KO Tyson, kept getting up and going after Vitali, winning in Italy despite getting dropped and all that cheating from the referee etc... even the other night, a shadow of himself, he nearly roared back from two knockdowns to score a last minute KO.

I know Capn H personally and can't fault his boxing knowledge and opinions, but seriously, that surprised me! You can fault Danny's conditioning, mindset, chin, etc, but how can anyone EVER doubt his courage??

Danny williams vs Mark Potter, just one of the most stunning fights for a british title I have seen. He could have made more of hit talent and there were times when I thought he was a bit of a dirty fighter but you can't fault his bollox.

WHy knock the guy?

He had plenty of heart. Against Tyson, he was getting rocked by some fast combinations. It looked like he was going down. Tyson was actually tossing leathing in combinations and fighting well. He had to rally back for a KO win. A lesser man would have folded.

Against Vitaly he showed heart on another level. How many would have kept going?

He has made his mark in Britain and europe.

He deserves his just due.

I love telling people about the Potter fight. They're always amazed. Danny Williams has provided a heck of a lot of entertainment for me. I really appreciate it.

i remember making a topic on adam smiths awful commentary on that williams vs potter fight when it happened.

hard to believe smiths been around so long.

there is a lad who does the security at fights (during ringwalks) who looks the spitting image of smith, I assume it's his brother. Obviously they have a connection with sky TV if they are both getting jobs in the place.

I've known Danny for 14 years and watching him spar was one of the most awesome and frustrating experiences ever. Most of you on here might not have ever watched him spar and I can tell you that watching him in the gym was totally unlike watching him live on the night. On the night he was tight, rigid, never let his punches flow etc as you all know. In the gym however it was like watching a giant middleweight with heavyweight power. He was lightning fast, beautifully mobile and you were left in no doubt that you were watching a future world heavyweight champion in the making.
In Gleasons Gym when he went over to spar with Oleg Maskaev, afterwards some of the American trainers went up to him and asked about his record. Danny told them about his one loss (this was April 2000 when his only loss at the time was against Julius Francis). "Who was that?" they asked. "Julius Francis," Danny replied. "WHAT??" they yelled, "HOW THE HELL DID YOU LOSE TO JULIUS FRANCIS???!!!"
