Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham

Post by slapbangwhallop »

Andy fights the French and EU champion the University Sports Arena in Limerick on November 14th.

Now (possibly to my shame!) have never even heard of Belghecham but his record looks decent and since 2003 he has only lost to highly rated Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam.

Anyone know anything about him?

depending on the time of the fight and the game it could be a blessing.

Think the Irish grand slam game and the Cordoba fight.

Will be at irish game in Croker or at away leg hopefully so won't make Limerick unfortunately....
Don't like rugby so going to Bernard's fight was a nobrainer...
Limerick man! no inta egg chasing! wow! me neither but then again I'm not from Contae Luimnigh a chara!

Dont think that that is decided until the draw it made. If we are away it would be better for Lee.

andy lee vs who?

maybe he should be called ANY lee, because they seem to let any obscure opponents fight him.

pisses me off. you see fighters like macklin go for the jugular, thrash british and EBU champs in successive fights. then you get these nonsense fights for fake belts.

is andy lee going to do anything with his career? i used to be a believer in this fighter.

macklin has been beat twice and he also started his career in 2001 ... , look how long it took for him to get there.. plus andy is fighting someone ranked higher than him , which is a start in my eyes. :box:

true, but he's fighting much better now. and before his reent suyccesses, he fought one of british boxing's hardest and most promising fighters, jamie moore. macklin really went for that fight also.

lee is a good talent but by 'eck he's protected. or at least he seems that way to me.

i'd like to see macklin vs lee, by the way. good fight.

the opperative word in that post is "now". Yes Macklin is moving along "now" - but after his fight with Moore he faced luminaries such as Anatoliy Udalov, Darren Rhodes, Francis Cheka and Geard Ajetovic!

It only this year that he has put the foot down since his defeat in 2006.

So now you look at Lee. Since his defeat last year he has at least been busy, this will be his fifth fight since then, and to be fair he's fought fighters better than the four listed above. I think his progess, whilst stuttering and unconvincing, has been against decent opposition - which leads us on to Affif Belghecham. Like I've said, I've never heard of the fecker but a quick scan of his record would suggest that he is he is a decent operator who have fought pretty unspectacular foes with the exception of Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam - who also beat Lee on countback in the Olympics (Dam you! N'Dam!)

I would say there is little suggest that Belghecham is any worse anything Macklin faced prior to Asikainen.

yeah but at least macklin has taken a direct route in his career. he did it losing a thrilling fight to jamie moore, and after regrouping, he went on to win some meaningful fights.

the opponents that lee faces, incl brian vera who beat him, just don't mean a heck of a lot. for a lad of his talent he should be doing better. is he waiting for macklin to risk his EBU title against him?

bet the irish commentators talk about the lee fight as a European title fight (provided it officially will be for EU whatsit belt).

bit too much of a trend in british and irish boxing. amateur star/standout, fans take to him, and fights ppl no one will remember the names of, for some kind of bauble. i see these kind of fights as safe dull fights. ticking over, wait and see type of fights. "business" at its best. dis is bidness!

ive also heard stephen haughian might be on it and i would also imagine gary o'sullivan and michale sweeney might make an appearance

Andy would have a better chance of winning against pavlik then macklin right now. and andy lost on the countback against hassan in the olympics and most people reckon andy did enough to win that bout, damn the the olympic scoring system i say.....

dont you belong on Boxing Scene?

What happened in da Limpiks matters little now and despite a promising start to his pro career Lee recent has stuttered and faltered.

Bet they dont - not when one of our own holds the really thing.

Macklin is extremely popular in Ireland and very well known and even RTE are well aware of what title he holds and will want to build up this fight as Lee's step toward a showdown with Macklin.

Macklin is associated with Tipperary and Lee with Limerick - to bitter rivals in Hurling and this is where that angle will develop imo.
