Danny Williams allowed to keep brittish title

Post by Adamj1987 »

this was said by the board as long as he fights the rogan-sexton winner. they said prizefighter was a non-title fight and he wont be stripped if he deffends aginst the winner of the above contest

source-the sun (note they did say winner of martin williams and sam sexton so i dunno how reliable it is)

i know he should be stripped but the board have made exceptions before so its probable he will keep the title

Why should he be stripped..
I thought the ruling is that if he lost to a leading contender in a none title fight then they could strip him of his title.. Carl baker was not a leading contender

I think Danny has been given an easy time by the board. 2 defences in nearly 3 years since he beat Gammer - and those were against the same guy!

I think they said he could be stripped. I suppose if he lost to Sprott(when he was still in it), Harrison or even Gammer who were all contenders for the title.

Is there a mandatory challenger though? It's not as if they can force him to make a voluntary defense is it?

from the article he must face the winner of rogan-sexton so that must make the winner mandatory

No, but then they can force mandatories... and why have they not. They didn't force a mandatory in 2007 or 2008 - bit rediculous. Its not like a Junior Witter situation in which Danny has looked leagues above anyone.

Sexton vs Rogan winner was going to be Williams' mandatory even had he won the prizefighter.

yep its a good compromise, williams gets a last hurrah rogan or sexton gets the belt and we dont have to see williams-mcdermott 3

That's fair enough, you shoudn't lose your title when the full distance is 3 rounds, what's all that about. As previously said you have to a be a contender anyway, Baker is not one. As for the board being soft on Williams, he's been good for the game and especially the British title so he can have 2 years out as far as I'm concerned and he still deserves to keep it.

I dont care about the title, what I want to know is why Danny Williams is still fighting?

Earlier on this week it was all Danny Williams retiring and his Greatest Hits blah blah, but it seems as though he's still going to be around.

I dont care who wins Rogan v Sexton now I just want to see either of them knock Williams out.

Which surely makes an even stronger case for Williams being stripped...

Yeah, Williams said he would be stripped if he lost, and that he would retire if he lost. Neither came to pass - it was all just hype for the event, I guess.
