Highlights clips on Youtube

Post by forcefraser »

I watched a career highlights clip on Youtube last night for both Calzaghe and Jones Jr.

If you take the Calzaghe clips, most of his fights are stopped in slightly questionable fashion, after a slapping Calzaghe assault. The fighters do not look particulary hurt and in many countries would have been left to carry on. Joe never really "finishes" the fights clean, the ref jumps in to do it for him.

If you look at the Jones Jr clips, the guy is awesome. Real power and unbelivable speed. His ability to show the punch and land it from distance was astonishing. Most of his fights were not stopped early and the guys he was frighting took a real hammering.

I know it`s all hypothetical, but as talented as I think Calzaghe is, I have no doubt that prime v prime, Jones jr would have taken Calzaghe to the cleaners. Surely Jones jr has to be one of the most talented fighters of the modern era.

1million% aggree, RJJ is one of the best fighters ever in his prime and would anihilate Calzaghe. Calzaghe was good but nowhere near RJJ level.

JC has admitted to the tactic that if the opponent is hurt, or just taken a count, to just keep on punching(flapping) as the ref will have no choice but to step in.
If you are taking a swarm of punches without reply and have been recently hurt, the ref will always stop it

Early in Joe's career he had alot of KO's worthy of any highlight real, but i think he adjusted his style a bit to cope with the hand pain.

Funnily enough, in some of his early fights (definitely against Merqui Sosa) RJJ was accused by the Septic media of the very thing that people are saying is an exclusive Calzaghe trait.

Not starting or nuffink (& I agree Calzaghe would never have fought, let alone beat, the twenty-seven year old version of Roy), but I think it needs to be said.
