First of all, I've disagreed with Hagler on the board a few times but it's never been personal. He even sent ME out a tape free of charge. Takes a good bloke to do something like that. He would be a loss to the forum imo.

A lot of people are taking the comments on Hunter to heart. As NEBF can't even accept that he quit against Molitor. I mean, look at him look to his corner and shake his head and let the referee count him out. Am I missing something here? All in front of his family, his mates, his hometown. Victor Ortiz quit against Maidana. Witter quit against Alexander. Hunter quit against Molitor. It's in black and white lads. He struggled with Pickering ffs.

what's wrong with struggling against Pickering ??.....Pickering was a hell of a box-fighter, well more boxer than fighter....hardly the need for the "ffs" at the end. And besides , I disagree that Hunter struggled. He got put down twice early by shots that looked heavier in person than what they did on the tape afterwards. Hunter then was largely on top, fitter, took virtually the rest of the bout to Pickering.

If anything, Pickering struggled against Hunter makes for a more accurate statement. Although let's not split hairs, both men are worthy of credit for their parts in an epic encounter

As regards the quit theory......OK, if it pleases you , I agree. ONLY ONE DIFFERENCE......It's not really quitting when you KNOW you are on a licking to nothing. Hunter got up the first time, he didn't get up the next. It was hardly an embarrassing effort in his first and only venture into World Class now was it.

Hunter looked to his corner in the Pickering bout too....twice....then he got up and beat him. He knew the Canadian was another kettle of fish altogether.

The people on this thread that are saying Hunter quit, are not qualifying it, like I just did, but rather trying to insinuate that Hunter doesn't have a set of b*llocks for a fight. Which is total trash. Frankly they want locking in a room with him and then try saying it....they would urinate in their pants!!

And as for Hagler, unfortunately, that wind-bag is gone after tomorrow night.....but fear not, I'm sensing a Hearns2002 joining the forum tomorrow night.

regardless of him knowing he was going to get beat,he DID quit, that is alien to most boxers, especially the type who trade on thier "toughness",like hunter.as for locking him in a room with other posters, what would that proove?that he could beat up your man in the street but was no good against someone who hit back(mollitor).i know you like the guy,but your not doing him any favours.your making him sound like a bully who will fight anyone,as long as they are not "that" good.remember, the lads on hear saw the mollitor fight, wether it was in person or on t.v,and you cant change the ending,no matter how much you would like to

spud was at the pickering hunter fight, and i do believe he told em that he had never encountered such a hostile atmosphere at a fight, he and the rest of the team were relieved to get out of hunters outside toilet, as they felt a threatening atmosphere. its a good job hunter got the decision........and perhaps the referee that night was of the same opinion!!

its only human nature.

come on spud, give us your recollections of that night please.

and for the record, hunter did quit against molitar, he was on his knees at about 6, and was still there at 10, totally in control of his senses and astute enough to look at his corner and shake his head.

could you imagine a real warrior doing that?

I don't say that to offend you, just to let you know that comments like that send your credibility p*ssing out the window..

didn't he climb of his bum not once but TWICE against your boy Esham and do the job?? YES

Did he get bombed to sh*t by German Guartos for 3 rounds before stopping that bull?? YES

Didn't he climb off the deck versus Molitor before the count out?? YES

Posts like you just made separate the real boxing fans from the chaff. Cue 50 dumb*ss comments about me licking Hunter's ringpiece......
and im laughing at you calling guartos a bull, his record was shocking at the time he fought hunter, his only decent opponent was monshipour who he had drawn with and been sparked out by, his 5 or 6 fights prior to hunter were against fighters with negative records, even virtual debutants. hardly a bull eh?

in fact its one of the most padded records i have ever seen, almost FW like in proportion. you are talking like hunter had beaten sugar ray leonard after leonards early onslaught.

and as for the paper heart, thats what your boyfriend showed against molitar, as has already been documented. im not on about the heart he showed agains esham (hunter did well to brush himself down and his supporters did well to influence the judges)....hunters courage that night is obvious, and i recognise that.

but against molitar...... shocking........and paper like.

it was a big fight, people pay good money to see a fighter put it all on the line, and unfortunately that night, michael did not. in retrospect, and you ask hunter, i bet he is embarassed to have quit in his own outhouse.

Ahh.............................I was giving you a fair crack til you called him my boyfriend......bit play-groundish.

I'll respond to what I read b4 that point though....i onlywent off what I saw of Guartos on the night I'm not familiar with his record....your record isn't what you use to fight with. Ok, he couldn't do it for 12 evidently, but he was very dangerous early....do you not think he might have been motivated by a once in a lifetime opportunity??

re: the aggressive atmosphere, my 70-odd year old Nan was at that fight and she never bat an eye-lid while your mate was sh*tting it. Did you just say "Spud was at that fight and he said......?? In other words meaning YOU WEREN'T?? So don't tell me Pickering won in a fight you didn't even attend.......I suppose you think he also beat Dunne over in Ireland do you??

And I'll repeat, Hunter was beat, and he's better qualified than you to make that assessment.

Mickey B.......Appreciate your comments but whatever I post is no reflection on Michael Hunter, if you thought I was making him out like a bully, it wasn't intended mate. Essentially it was his first and only venture into World Class against an already World Class fighter of 3 or 4 years more experience at that level, and a lot more ability. Ask Rhino if Pickering would have liked to have lasted that long in his only World Title attempt.

Rhino - I was at Hunter-Pickering. Hunter won a fair but narrow decision, in my view. I don't think the judges were influenced by the atmosphere.

that is an absolute tool of a comment, im guessing you have never watched a fight on your black and white tv and not had an opinion as to who won. do you have those doyley things on the arms of your armchairs?

hey mate, half of this is just tongue in cheek and im baiting you, its good fun and keeps the forum lively. ok..hunter maybe not your boyfriend but it certainly sounds like you have been intimate with him... :DDD

as for eshams fight with hunter, no i was not there, does that mean im not entitled to call who i thought won the fight, or were the knockdowns etc i saw on camera not actually happening in real life. i cant be at every live fight i want to be at, i work for a living, i suspect that living in the north east you get used to not working... ;;-)

and ill be interested to hear spuds comments on the hunter v pickering fight. as he was there and i was not, shame on me. i was going to go but i dont have a wheel clamp for my car.

i had it close ian, im not for one minute suggesting the judges etc were geographically biased, im just baiting UB40.

i certainly believed hunter should have got in the ring with pickering again, to set the record straight, as there was certainly some controversy after the first fight. im guessing hunter did not want too as i know esham did.

for anyone interested, esham is ok after his stoppage loss in the ukraine, but decisions to be made concerning his future i guess.

Interesting to see good ol Graham Houston, who reads here, has picked up on this rumour from this forum, in his preview at Fightwriter.com.

He went for Booth originaly, but.....if Booth did have a bad cold, or flu, he's gonna be in big trouble, if Hunter is as fired up as Goods says. Takes awhile to get over that sort of thing...over 12 rounds no less.

I'd pick Booth, who's as tough as hell and could have been a world champ, with the right life style, dedication etc. But if he's not 100%, then it's impossible to know what to expect really.

Good fight

Aye, I can tell about the baiting mate - you're rolling back the Spud years here!

You know what - stranger things have happened than Hunter v Pickering II being made. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Graham Houston is speculating that Booth has a heavy cold on his site.

Does anyone know if this is true? Hunter would be a horrible opponent to fight if you are less than 100%
