Seriously, it looked like Froch has whispered "I'm going to smoke this guy's boots" and Shaw is thinking 'Bloody Nora, he's right an' all!'.

maybe they can make do with the WBO title or I'm sure the WBA could rustle up some other title or other as they always do. I hardly think there won't be life outside of the Super 6 at supermiddle - which is interesting considering the Super Six is great for the fans, while what happens as a result of the tournament may be the same old crap the fans have had to put up wth for years.

When one door opens....

anyway, i think Froch takes this. Guy is a beast, taking flush shots and still coming forward. He took absolutely crunching shots from Pascal and I thought at the time there was no way he could get through the fight, I was sure Pascal would stop him. Is Dirrell better than Pascal? I don't think he is. Pascal looked great at light heavy beating Diaconu, and while Dirrell has looked fast and flashy I'm not sure he will be able to deal with the 12 rounds of hell that Froch will put on anyone. Dirrell's inexperience could be a factor too - I can see him landing on Froch and trying to take Carl out, gassing then just falling apart in the later rounds. Dirrell seems to think this will be a cakewalk for him and like someone else said Froch is the type of guy who inspires confidence in his opponents prefight, but actually getting in there with him you feel is an altogether different proposition.

Froch KO10.

Froch is a monster. I met him after a fight once, and he's absolutely frigging huge. I'm 6' 2 1/2" and fifteen stone and Froch was much broader shouldered and much bigger all round than I was. I don't know how he makes 168, I really don't.

Taylor was a huge middleweight, and Froch looked a weight class bigger than him when they fought at 168.

I've always thought he looked big in the ring, but he reckons he doesnt put that much on after the weigh in. There was a photo on fightnews yesterday and he look super ripped, I'm guessing his body fat % is extremely low.

now that you mention it what struck me at the Tatevosyan fight (only Froch fight I've been to) was how he seemed able to step across the ring in about 2 strides. Really cut it off that night.

Ok my prediction for this one.

Froch by UD, Dirrell will have some early success but froch will come and hit hard from 6-12.

G0mez wrote:Stylistically, it's been 3 tricky opponents on the spin for Froch.

I think (and so do the people around Froch think), that Dirrell could be the bizz.

I think i'd be more gutted if he turned out to be crap than him actually beating Froch.

He does have very fast, sharp punches. Not sure how concussive they are as his opponents have been stopped on their feet.

He did get floored heavy by a journeyman. The clip THAT I put up on youtube shows a glimpse. But the actual fight, you see Dirrell pretty shook up and he received a standing count in his corner before they let him sit down. The guy WAS a bum and with no skills or power to suggest that "That punch would have put anyone down" etc etc.

Froch does have a few heat seeking missiles that come quicker than his opponent thinks. He paws slowly with the jab at times, but the second and third shots rain in pretty fast and hard. If Dirrell starts backing up the wrong way, Froch will blast him over.

I can see Dirrell starting out with flashy bursts. A mixture of nerves and adrenaline will see him bouncing round a LOT in the first couple of rounds.

But Dirrell fails to work constantly. When he opens up he looks a million dollars, but he does seem to take his foot right off the gas until he can put another flashy burst together.

The thing is, Froch will hopefully weather those bursts and still be there to chase and unload his own bombs as Dirrell tries stay clear and re-energise.

As the fight wears on, Froch will get stronger and stronger. Dirrell's bursts will be sloppier and he will get caught more. He may start clinching, but Froch will throw him off and smell blood. Whether this is the 4th round or the 8th i dont know.

He is young at 25 and the late arrival in the UK has not seemingly had any impact. We know he's trained at altitude which will definitely benefit him.

We know he is hungry and this is his big chance, his opportunity etc etc - but Froch has worked very hard to get into this position and will be far hungrier than Dirrell.

Like every opponent Carl has ever faced, from Dodson to Taylor, Dirrell will have his way with Froch for spells in the beginning as Carl weighs him up and feels what he's got. Then he will then put his foot on the gas and start tearing lumps out of them.

Expect everyone to be shocked at Dirrell soundly outboxing Froch in the opener except for Froch and his corner.

I fully expect this will kick off by the third round and then it will be a war of attrition with Froch the betting favourite to come through anything Dirrell has to seal the deal by knockout.
Great post and good insight as always Gomez. Its good that McCraken and Froch are honest about the task in hand and behind the bold statements they have both done their homework. I too think Dirrell will win the first few rounds and maybe even embarrass Carl at times.

But hopefully Carl use his jab to good effect, have a tighter defence and start putting on the pressure after 5 or 6 rounds. I think this will be tough fight for both and hope that Froch can prevail by UD.
I liked Gomez's post as well. No-one will be shocked if Dirrell outboxes Froch for the first 1-3 rounds, though, imo. It will be very interesting to see how nervous Dirrell is. He could burn up a lot of energy in the first few rounds.

I just can't see this fight being a stinker. It's got to be entertaining! :DDD

agree with above comments

that Froch is a beast for a super middleweight

he would make Cazlaghe look like a wimp standing next to him at a weigh in

such a shame that Calzaghe fought the likes of Richie Woodall and Robin Reid ----------but not Carl Froch

I know you could say Froch is from a slightly different era

But Calzaghe could have fought him anytime from 2005 onwards - Froch wanted the chance to take a pop at the best Super Middleweight in the World

But Calzaghe decided he didnt want tough / low reward fights

he wanted easy / low reward fights against Peter Manfredo instead

this post is wrong on so many levels.

Froch is from a slightly different era in the same way as the cave-men were from a slightly different era from today.

What does it possibly matter that Froch would "make Calzaghe look like a wimp at the weigh in".........

JC would have jobbed Carl Froch and stopped him in 9 or less. The JC with brittle hands would have beaten Froch out of sight!! on points.

When Froch was coming through he had, and knows it, no business calling out Calzaghe. Froch wanted to make 2 million quid pronto, and that's about the size of it.

Well now Calzaghe has retired and Froch has (just about) kept his momentum going, he can do just that.

The 2 most important things I have to say though are these:

1) Froch has a good set on him, I love his game as a pebble attitude,

and 2) If JC came out of retirement and got a few months notice I would guarantee that he would WHUP Carl Froch. Period.

With the fans behind him Frochy will steam in early and try to smoke his boots. It would be nice to see how dirrell handles an all out attack from Frock as in the Pascal fight.

Pascal has a Froch like chin, but by all accounts Dirrell does not.
dirrell has a better defence than pascal.

he's much more slippery and better on his feet.

if he's in trouble he'll get round the ring and survive the danger.

i just don't see froch really pinning dirrell down like he did taylor and pascal. :>

Each to their own, but i dont think your post is what the majority think.

Joe stopped nobody even close to world level - perhaps the previously beaten likes of Mitchell & Woodhall (whom were in their last ever fight against Joe.)

Hopkins, Jones, Reid, Kessler, Lacy all went 12 with Joe - and Joe was dropped twice and got out of jail with 2 x split decision wins. To suggest he'd whoop Froch or stop him 9 rounds is quite frankly...

The fact is, Calzaghe has lots of skills.. but he has never been a puncher and this 'bad hands' is a load of baloney. The stoppages dried up once he stepped it up, right at the end of his 14 year 'reign'.

The flash knockdown of an old Eubank, on the undercard of an undercard, is perhaps his career highlight for me. The rest of his career has been cleverly timed risks, combined with plenty of duds and mediocre 'former' champions beaten up for chump change at the end of their careers.

His risk fight against Hopkins backfired spectacularly and suddenly 'Pavlik is next' talk dried up very fast. Then he dumped 'the best manager in the world' (Joe's words) who'd got a deal agreed for Calzaghe vs Pavlik with Arum in place.

Then out of the blue, Roy Jones, who had been whoring himself from ringside at Marcus Beyer's comeback fight and elsewhere around the circuit for another payday, suddenly gets this crazy offer from Joe personally, who wants a 'name' to do a 12 round tango to top up his retirement nest egg.

He gives faded Roy an outrageous 50% share of the show, despite Roy never being a huge draw even in his pomp, just to get the deal wrapped up quickly.

Meanwhile Froch gets put as WBC #1 mandatory challenger in the morning and by noon, Calzaghe vacated !

Calzaghe vs Froch would have been the biggest domestic fight since Eubank vs Benn. It would have sold out the millenium easily and British TV would have gone wild to sign it. Unlike Kessler who brought 500 Danes, Froch would have brought 8,000 hardcore fans plus another 10,000+ casual fans from the surrounding East Midlands.

The Jones PPV bombed and not much money came out of it for either man. A Froch fight would have made him a fortune.

You could say "ah couldn't do the weight anymore" which is balls. He was 2lb under for Kessler. And despite vacting the WBC title he still clung onto his WBO for many months as he toyed with fighting on one more time.

Joe was obviously not as confident about his chances as you are mate ! :D

You make many a good point Gomez, it's pleasing when someone can be a*sed to back up what they're actually saying, that doesn't always happen as has been my experience this week.

However, your claim that Kessler brought over 500 is about 9,500 short of the actual number of Danes that came over!!

You've probably got a point about Joe not stopping Froch , but I still don't agree, I've been told on this forum, which I believe to be true, that Joe was hitting much harder before his hands fcked up.

Whilst Woodhall might not have fought again, that is to take nothing awayfrom an excellent Calzaghe win, Woodhall was in excellent condition, a former WBC champ, and was coming to win.

The Lacy fight was a real danger fight...had Lacy's momentum (myth) not been shattered, he would no doubt have KO'd a few more....he would have probably KO'd Froch after Froch tried to engage him in a crude shoot out, let's face it.

I have also, always been a big appreciator of Joe's win over Sakio Bika, who was one big , rough, tough , very fit and dirty f*cker, practically one handed.

I'm not saying Joe's career was flawless , cos that would be stupid. But Lacy and Kessler were bona fide World Champs and favourites with many and he brushed the pair aside with conspicuous ease.

As for Hopkins, Hopkins is an excellent fighter but against Joe he cheated, cheated and then cheated some more...it was utterly pathetic watching him roll about pretending Joe had punched him in the gonads when the rest of the time he acts the tough guy from the streets. He was losing/ spoiling for virtually 3 quarters of the fight if not more.

Allot of this is simply incorrect. Firstly don't pretend Froch was the draw 1-2 years ago he is now, he wasnt, he wasnt pulling in many fans and he wasnt bringing a belt to the table. KEssler/Hopkins/Jones were big big fights. You can say the Jones PPV bombed, which it may have done but each man earned 5million guaranteed

To be honest I'm not a fan of either man but Calzaghe would have schooled Froch, just like Barrera-Hamed, fundamentals and speed win

Froch looks a little gaunt to me.

However I slightly favour Froch in this one, purely becasue he is more seasoned and we all know about his grit and determination.

But he's had some hard fights, and is a notoriously slow starter, more so in fights where the other fighter can use the ring a bit - I don't include Pascal in this category, because he just stood there winging in humdingers all night.

It's a real interesting fight, and the questions are there for Dirrell to answer - Can he answer them.

You could say "ah couldn't do the weight anymore" which is balls. He was 2lb under for Kessler. And despite vacting the WBC title he still clung onto his WBO for many months as he toyed with fighting on one more time.

Joe was obviously not as confident about his chances as you are mate ! :D
Brilliant post with some very good points. :TU:
Ageed. A good post.

However, as much of a Froch fan as I am, I believe that Calzaghe`s wins over Bika and especially Kessler, prove that the guy as a world class fighter.

Maybe he would have been too much for Froch, in terms of speed and skill? Who knows.

I do think however that he would have gone nowhere near a tournament like the Super 6, nor would he have fought the likes of Taylor, in America as his first defence (it took him years before he got his arse over there)

Froch gets more repect from me any day of the week.

Twinkle - Froch is always on or somewhere around the weight - he lives a very healthy lifestyle and even when he is not fighting he hardly drinks - when he does its the odd one here and there but nothing to get him anywhere remotely p*ssed. He is also almost obsessive on eating the right food which is why making the Super Middleweight limit is not normally a problem to him.

My only slight problem with Froch is he always gets nervous before a fight - or maybe the correct words are a tadge tetchy in the lead up to a fight - some will say that is healthy!!

My remarks are mainly concerning Dirrell - there is one photo where he looks remarkably relaxed and I believe that is a good sign for him - this fight is getting me quite intrigued - I think Froch will win and do so in style but its certainly got me thinking!!!
