how would this have gone with lets say Skelton who Ko'd williams and Bruno pre-tyson
i think it would of been a great brawl with bruno getting rocked by skelton early but bruno pulling off a points victory

Bruno would have smashed him to pieces.
Skelton wouldn't have got past the jab.

Re: Bruno vs Skelton
To put the otherside, Skelton's whiskers have always been very sound, and Bruno would have to work hard to keep him off. Who is to say that Bruno would not fall apart after building a sizable lead?

Do you really think that Skelton would have lasted that long?Coco wrote:To put the otherside, Skelton's whiskers have always been very sound, and Bruno would have to work hard to keep him off. Who is to say that Bruno would not fall apart after building a sizable lead?

Bruno knocks out ever British heavy it the last 50 years bar lennox! Skelton- would be destroyed!

Re: Bruno vs Skelton
TBH no, I was just playing devils advocate really, I don't think Skelton is cute enough not to be hurt by Bruno, and Big frank was always a great finisher. Maybe he could have done it to the Bruno who wilted against Jumbo Cummings or Bonecrusher Smith, but not to the Bruno who was outlasted by Witherspoon.superpunchout wrote:Do you really think that Skelton would have lasted that long?Coco wrote:To put the otherside, Skelton's whiskers have always been very sound, and Bruno would have to work hard to keep him off. Re: Bruno vs Skelton
All of the men that beat Bruno had one thing that Skelton lacks - concussive power at world level.Coco wrote:TBH no, I was just playing devils advocate really, I don't think Skelton is cute enough not to be hurt by Bruno, and Big frank was always a great finisher. Perhaps I'm overrating Frank but I think any version of Bruno would flatten Skelton ten times out of ten. To me he's just a greater all around athlete period.
Re: Bruno vs Skelton
I agree Bruno would win everytime too. However I don't agree that it took world class power to beat Frank, it was far more about being cute enough to absorb Franks power so they were able to outlast him. Before McCall Frank had only been the distance once against a journeyman who stayed in his shell over 10 rounds. The mentally shot McCall gave he fight away and stayed in his shell completely too, even then Bruno was blowing out of his arse for the final 2 rounds
Re: Bruno vs Skelton
Its quite hard to judge Bruno because of his lack of big wins at solid domestic level. Would have been nice to have seen him up against the likes of Gary Mason, Derek Williams, etc.
I can see Coco's point and I generally agree with it (and his prediction) but I wouldn't say Skelton was without a chance.

Yes, I agree. Frank is not given enough credit. He is underrated to some degree. He has been criticised by the way he fought Tyson the second time, but he faced a prime Tyson & hurt Mike & he should be credited for that!Tommy Gunn13 wrote:Spot on DG...DG. wrote:Bruno knocks out ever British heavy it the last 50 years bar lennox! Bruno was better than hes giving credit for
Bruno achieved his dream of becoming champ by being a hard worker, not giving up. He had four shots at the title before he finally landed the big one!
I like Frank & I wish him nothing but the best for the future! Know what I mean, Harry!
Re: Bruno vs Skelton
that right there is a very decent point. How many fighters came anywhere near putting a dent in the Prime Mike Tyson?? Not very many. Frank rocked him to his boots.Rocky Balboa wrote:Yes, I agree. As regards living the life also, I picked up an old Bruno vid in Smiths for 2quid a few years back, a docu showing him in the gym training etc...What a bargain. He didn't half seem to pay for it though when his day job got taken away from him. That is how dedicated Frank was, when it got taken away, he went a bit nutso.
But here's hoping the big guy is now well and truly on the straight and narrow.

Williams nearly took Skeleton out, so did Mirovic and Rogan stopped him. Bruno outboxes him with the jab and smashes him with the right early

Skelton didn't KO Williams - and which pre-Tyson Bruno? Late 90s or mid 90s?Adamj1987 wrote:This has prob been done before but wasnt sure to put it in here or BotP

Re: Bruno vs Skelton
As everyone else, I'd have Bruno over Skelton easily, but Skelton would have had a better chance vs the late 80s Bruno. The older Bruno, while putting in a lesser performance vs Tyson, was bigger, rougher and had more stamina - all of which would help him cope better witrh Skelton's size and style.

Re: Bruno vs Skelton
Bruno was actually a bit of a roughouse in the ring, always holding and hitting with rabbit like punches.
It was his lack of defence under fire, coupled with an ability to run out of gas late on that really buggered him in several fights. Against Tyson he was wimply ouspeeded and outgunned, not to mention terrified (second fight)

Bruno for me any day of the week, it took a very good fighter ( maybe not bonecrusher) to beat frank, skelton is not a very good fighter.
