I'm only going by what the commentator said on the feed, he said 'he's 0.4 ounces over.' It was probably as mistake on his part, he obviously meant .4 lbs.' I only caught the tail end on the radio.jameswilson wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Direll is actually 0.4 OZ over the weight - thats about the tiniest amount overweight I can remember seeing. That's a quarter of puff? Maybe he had a quarter of mary jane about his person?
If he weighed in 168.4lbs then that isnt 0.4 of an ounce over is it. Thats 0.4 of a pound over.
If he weighed in 0.4 of an ounce over surely he would just take his kegs off.

Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
this does happen with foreign fighters sometimes. i.e. well out of their natural climes, different routine, etc etc. let's not forget tszyu was a bit over for hatton, wasn't he? tszyu, the consummate pro (granted, he was in his mid 30s and not long before had a long time off due to injuries).
anway, if anything i see temperament and style perhaps getting the gifted dirrell into trouble. all that switching, which i don't believe you can get away with at world level. hopefully given that he's facing a southpaw, froch will be all business looking to land hard right hands and left hooks. we know froch can do the hard 12, which takes some getting used to for anyone. dirrell may burn up lots of energy on this kind of stage.
should be a good fight and i'm pissed off that i won't see it live.

Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
just to clarify as there seems a bit of confusement.
dirrell was 4 ounces over the limit. thats the same as about 4 tots of vodka......so not too much fluid to lose, but a bit of skipping and a piss nevertheless.....

Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
froch's article in the local paper.
This is my last column until fight night and I've just got one more thing to say. If you are reading this Andre, then my message is simple:
You think you're good.... you are good.... but you're just not good enough.
God willing, afterwards you'll fight another day. But on Sunday morning you're going to be public enemy No.1 and I'm going to give you the mother of all beatings.
Unfortunately for you I'm looking at making a massive statement in the Super Six tournament, starting with punching holes in you.
But look on the bright side.
In 30 years you can tell your grand kids how you won an Olympic bronze and how you went to Nottingham and managed to survive a couple of rounds with one of the most fearsome super-middleweights in history.

hitman_hatton1,
You could be setting yourself up for a big fall, if Dirrell doesn't win. It adds an extra element of intrigue to the fight for me.

We'll see how active he is once Froch's heavy hands start clouting him.opticald wrote:THEBUTCH wrote:Nice one Chambers![]()
Watching Dirrell against Hanshaw, as good as he looks, I can see Frochy's right hand over Dirrell's jab proving too much for Andre. I'm hoping Froch is going to apply clever presure, because Dirrell clearly likes boxers coming on to him.
I was frightened by some of Dirrells fights. He looks awesome in most of them. He looks great in the hanshaw fight imo. Those straight left hands are blindingly fast and look to carry some clout indeed. Dirrell is faster than pascal or taylor. He also is VERY active and throws way more than froch. lovely snappy jabs too. He is very good at hooking as somebody comes in and turning his body so that the hook leaves him in the centre of the ring, where he will have advantages over Froch.
Dirrell looks very good to me and I won't be betting on the fight at all after studying him a bit more closely. I can see him doing damage with fast shots. He swtiches too which is going to be very awkward for Carl.
Dirrell is fools gold.....a lot of flash but clearly with some decent tools at his disposal. But he hasn't been the most active, his competition level has been nothing to shout about, and even some of those foes have given him some difficulties.
He'll fall away dramatically when the heat is turned up as it will be when he faces Froch in Nottingham. Froch by KO 4-7
Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
I see Dirrell being right in this fight!! I just hope Froch don't leave it late cos if he's losing like he was in the Taylor fight then be assured Dirrell won't give him the opportunity as Taylor did.. I've watched Dirrell for a while now and the kid is super talented, While Im not sold on his whiskers I do think his attributes are second to none!! This is gonna be a top fight with fireworks!! Boxer Vs Puncher!!!
I hope Froch wins I really do but something inside is telling me he won't...

Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
I highly doubt the fight will be over in four rounds. Froch isn't the nonstop punching machine (or devastating puncher) some people make him out to be. The two world class opponents he has faced have both gone into the twelfth. Dirrell is a slick boxer who is hard to hit when hes on his bike, more so than the likes of Pascal imo. He has also traveled all around the world fighting as an amateur and is used to having the crowd against him. It might have an impact but I doubt it will be to the point where he can't cope and is adversely effected.lurkyshaka wrote:We'll see how active he is once Froch's heavy hands start clouting him.opticald wrote:THEBUTCH wrote:Nice one Chambers![]()

I think Froch will fall behind or do no better than level over the first 6 or so rounds before taking over in the second half of the fight on his way to a late stoppage or points win. But Dirrell defantly has ability and I wouldn't be surprised to see him outbox Froch using his great speed to pull of a minor upset.

Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
Interesting that ppl have picked up on Dirrell being good against shorter opponents. In this respect he could be like Pascal. Pascal fights so much better when he can punch then pull away, his reflexes and the opponent's shorter arms keeping him safe. When he faced Froch, Pascal was outreached, couldn't do the in and out stuff, and opted to stay and slug it out. I wonder what Dirrell's response will be, if he in fact does struggle vs a rangy opponent.
Really hope Froch does well. We've had excellent super middleweights but too many routine fights in British/Irish boxing. Far too many routine fights, WBO mismatches, cuff-fests, posing matches - and perhaps only a handful or two of REAL fights.
Whether you're sold on Froch or not, Carl is doing things the proper way. I hope he wins the tournament. Yes, boxing has more to prove in a recession. However, he is a real competitor and I hope the risk pays off for "The Cobra".

Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
Dirrells best win was against Hanshaw who is 6'0 but besides that almost all his opponents have been short, interesting, I wasn't aware of that. The guy who dropped him was 6'2 but that doesn't necessarily mean the height is what led to the knockdown. Very excited for tomorrow really a great night of fights and there is only more to come with this format. I want to see Froch vs Abraham more than anything, so I hope they don't take too much punishment before that happens.Autobarn wrote:Interesting that ppl have picked up on Dirrell being good against shorter opponents. Re: Froch v Dirrell - The weigh in
Froch v Abraham would be bloody amazing. The bigger froch bullying and backing AA up, AA pouncing with accurate power shots. It would be brutal, and I hope they both beat their opponents impressively tonight.

That was a strangely entertaining video. Dirrell looked nervous. Intimidated by the crowd.

That guy who was shouting out those insults to Dirrell, I'm pretty I've heard him at Prizefighter. He sounds like Johnny Vegas.
