Joe Post was born in around the Avellino area of Italy on 28th July 1882 His relatives
Believe that his birth name was Giusepe Esposito.
He came to the U.S at age four in 1886 and the family settled in Olean, New York .In 1890 his father Tomasso changed the surname to Post, when he became a U.S citizen. It is not known when he started boxing in Olean but in 1910 he had several bouts in Buffalo & Niagra Falls.. Al present all reference material is from the Buffalo Courier & Niagra Falls Gazette.
Both make reference that he was from Tonawanda and possibly a member of the Eldredge B. C. Club at that time. The Eldredge B.C. still exists today in Tonawanda.
Joe Post worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road and ,In 1932, he left Olean & took his family to Michigan where He worked Ford Rouge as a riveter & retired in 1955. He lived in Warren ,Michigan and died on 11-26-1964 at age 82.
During his boxing career he was known as Joe Post, Kid Post and Young Post.
