Cracking, if not depressing thread!
With the way the heavy weight divison is, can't see why Harrisson or Williams can't get lucky next year.

Well, I'm going to stick my neck out and make a serious pick. But more about that later.
I take it that only legit world titles count. If any old tat was accepted, then I'd have maybe gone for Barnes. I think he's a sure bet for the WBU title, depending on how things go for Magee (does he even still hold that bauble?). Anyway;
Eastman won't beat Hopkins (if they fight), and no amount of wishfull thinking will change that. He's out of the running.
Hatton...mmm...I'm sceptical over whether or not he'll fight Tszyu. However, if he does it'll be his first loss. Thinking about it, it wouldn't actually surprise me if he fights for, and wins, the vacant title. He'd be pick number two.
Sadly, I don't think it'll come down to our heavyweights either. King won't let anyone even remotely dangerous near Brewster, and if I'm honest, the other champions will probably all have too much for all of our boys.
So, here's my pick. It's Witter. He seems to be matched with a view to at least getting a shot at one of the top men. Every fight now is one that lifts him a little higher in the rankings. If he beats Branco, and looks good doing it, then he might only be one more good performance from getting a big fight. If he gets a shot against Gatti, or goes the WBA route and ends up with Harris, then I could see him being able to shock one of those guys. Of course he could take a couple, retreat into his shell, and stink the place out again. I think it's pretty much a fifty/fifty what happens if the title shot comes around. But my gut feeling is, if anyone's going to do it this year, Witter would be the most likely.

Not a bad shout at all, Witter could well get his hands on a title. I think he'll take Branco apart.

I only see Amir Khan when he gets pro and doesn´t sign with Mr.Warren. Plus maybe Hatton if he changes the Promoter. For me he is actually (together with Nelson) the best british boxer. so it´s ridiculuos to fight only for a alphapet-soup-title to have a good record. this guy could reach more if he changes his environment soon that prevents him to become a world star. compare it with Sturm and what Kohl does. Kohl would never go for an alphabet-soup-title. he always is seeking for a chance to box for a real title though it might be to soon (best example: Veit vs Calzaghe). Hatton needs such a promoter who is not Don King.

I don't think Skelton could beat Brewster, he's technically too poor. I also don't see him getting a shot at Brewster either. Skelton needs to fight some fringe contenders first.
I think Hatton could get a title, he may lose to Tszyu, in fact i'd have it 75-25 in favour of Tszyu, but he's still good enough to win a belt. I think he may walk right through Gatti, Cotto is a 60-40 in favour of Cotto, Harris, unlikley we ever see it unless Hatton somehow ends up beating all the other champs.
Witter, I still think there's a big leap from beating Branco to beating any of the other champs. Remember, Gatti had broken his hands and been out for a long time when he faced Branco for an easy title, it's quite possible that the fight was not indicative of his best at the weight.
Be interesting to see Gatti v Mayweather, a lot of people are annointing Mayweather as the probable best in the division, I'm not convinced he will have the pop at the weight. I'd love to see him fight Tszyu right now.
