By Clive Bernath: Swinton Light-heavyweight Mark Brookes, who was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning suffering from bleeding on the brain following a bout with Londoner Peter Haymer, is expected to make a complete recovery.

The 25 year-old was attempting to wrest the English light-heavyweight title from Peter Haymer but was stopped in the 10th and final round of an exciting battle at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre on Friday (Dec10). Brookes appeared fine after the fight but complained of feeling unwell in the early hours of Saturday morning and was immediately rushed to the Rotherham hospital, where he underwent a brain operation.

" Mark is doing very well now," said manager Dennis Hobson. " He is expected to make a full recovery and with a little luck could be home by Christmas. Mark did suffer bleeding on the brain but it was not a blood clot. All credit to Mark's girlfriend, she acted very quickly in getting him to the hospital. Who knows what could of happened if she did not act so quick."

Hobson said that Brooks was awake and talking just half an hour after the operation and is now being routinely monitored.
