FROCH V DIRRELL - OBSERVATIONS

Post by Wrists »

Apologies if this has been done to death elsewhere but I have been on here looking at all the threads 'robbery' 'Froch is crap'
etc etc etc and now I have seen the fight in its entireity I would say the following:

A) Dirrell won the fight in my view by 2/3 rounds BUT there are close rounds where it is easy to see why the judges went for Froch, so this was not a robbery as it is being painted out, but I still think Dirrell won the fight.

B) Dirrell was very negative and DID hold excessively and deserved the point loss, however Froch repeatedly hit behind the head so should have lost a point also.

C) Froch, if he is to beat people like Kessler etc etc needs to tighten up his defence big time, however.....

D) Ironically I think he has a decent chance against Kessler who whilst very good is really a left jab, right hand merchant and will stand there and not run like Dirrell did.

E) I think you now have to question Froch's power - last 3 fights (first really at world level) and he has gone nigh on 36 rounds on only stopping a quite clearly buggered fighter in Taylor

F) You also have to start a ask a few questions about his chin, dropped v Taylor and wobbled badly against Dirrell - neither being the punchers that Kessler and Abraham are.

Bottom line is that Froch is not as good as we all wanted him to be and he is not as good as he thought he was. His attitude is to be applauded but ability wise unfortunately I think he comes up just a little short of elite world class - I hope I am wrong

Finally, I think its evident that Calzaghe would have done a Lacy type job on him.

Regards

Dirrell - Without talking about the result, i was very impressed with him. Had only see a limited amount of footage of Dirrell so didn't know what to expect, and even though i was rooting for Froch, Dirrell quickly silenced me.

He was quick, confident, and had enough power to wobble Froch. Also, seemed very humble in his post-fight interview - i'm a fan and can't wait to see how far he goes.

Froch - I'm a fan, and despite Taylor making Froch look ordinary for most parts, i didn't read too much into it because Taylor is a class-act.

Now though, after seeing Dirrell toying with Carl, it's making me question how much longer he can go before losing his 0. He's been shown to lack technique in last two fights, but is this because Taylor/Dirrell are quality operators? ...and will Carl prove to be the man against the slower Kessler/AA?

Good point Bacca.

Against speed merchants Carl may always struggle.

Slower fighters like Kessler he may have more joy with.

And sorry to labour the point but its now very evident that Calzaghe would have handled Froch with relative ease ala Lacy

Stylistically, Kessler's a better match up for Froch, but Kessler's a much better boxer and has above average physical attributes all around. Unless Froch lands some kind of money shot, Kessler should win the fight clearly.

Abraham is a nightmare for anyone. Very hard fight to figure out, apart from that Abraham should win.

I agree.

Kessler will be easier to hit for Froch but will also test the Cobra's chin so much more, and sadly, if Taylor can drop CF and Dirrell can wobble him, then i can only see one outcome.

Abrahams will pose an even harder threat in my opinion. His defence is tight and his power will be very testing to Froch's chin.

I dont question his chin Taylor caught him clean and against Dirrell his defence was at fault he will definelty need to tighten his defence up if he has any chance of winning this I see him losing his next 2 fights against Kessler and Abraham.

Calzaghe had problems with Bika. Froch is better than Bika and would rough Calzaghe up. Dirrell has better footspeed and handspeed than calzaghe. Dirrell is actually a very very good fighter and in time this victory will look very good indeed.

I am hoping for that "money" shot as you put it for Froch against Kessler - as unfortunately I see that as his only chance.

Although I completely concede Kessler is a lot slower than Dirrell which brings in Froch with a chance - what people are forgetting is that Kessler is possibly even tougher in the whiskers department than Froch - the fight will be tremendous and although Froch will get through with some mighty big shots of that I have no doubt - it will break Froch's confidence when the Dane takes everything he has to offer and comes back with some of his own medicine.

What I find really interesting about the super six, is that all of the boxers have shown they are vulnerable to hard punches. Froch has been hurt in his last 3 fights! Kessler was hurt against Calzaghe (body shot) and Sartison (brilliant punch). Abraham looked uncomfortable when Taylor landed flush (once or twice). Dirrell was hurt badly against Rocha. Ward has apparently been hurt before (not seen much of him, though). And we all know about Taylor (I hope he's OK).

I don't think Froch has a steel chin any more. I think Abraham has the best chin, followed by Kessler. I can't help but think Froch is going to walk on to a big right hand when he fights Kessler.

Froch has very poor defence and is easy to hit. He was wobbled by Robin Reid for a moment. I too, see Froch losing to Kessler and Abraham. Froch wont tighten his defence, like he wont listen to his trainer either. Carl Froch knows best.

Calzaghe is a SOUTHPAW Froch couldn't figure Dirrel out when fighting from the southpaw stance.Calzaghe would have bashed Froch.

Twoddle, its obvious surely, Calzaghe is streets ahead of Froch. Direll is good but you cant compare him with Calzaghe, thats complete nonsense. As for victory, was it?
