Williams to be World Champ in 2005?!

Anyone see on Sky Sports News this morning Danny Williams saying he will be back, better than ever before, and will definitely be a World Champion in 2005?!

Do you honestly think he can improve enough to rematch Vitali and beat him?

Personally I think that's a tall order, excuse the pun!

It's almost distressing to hear Danny talking so positive. Maybe he has harmed his brain?!

Wouldn't be so bad if it was a hard-done-by loss against Vitali, but he was a rag doll in there!

No way. I know he needs to be positive but he should also be realistic.

The heavyweight division may not be great, but its not that bad.

It's hard to step down though. I mean he could fight Sprott again, or even Skelton for a best of British type encounter, but where do you go after that? European title? Still a step down from a World title fight. Clearly he doesn't want to retire though, so I guess he has to do something.

Maybe he can look for fights against some of the other US fighters lower down the scale like McCall, Rahmann etc and try and get a couple of decent paydays.

I think he should aim for a fight with Herbie Hide next year - we all want to see it!

I think Danny is being worryingly positive, he took the mother of all beating out there.

As for not performing, if he cannot peform in a world title fight, after being so relaxed and motivated beforehand, and he really did look relaxed, then when can you perform.

Danny is a very brave man, but he needs to do more than stand there taking blows to win a title. I think he would beat Brewster, a shot against Ruiz, but that's about it.

I really like Danny, he's got my admiration for his bravery forever, but he didn't really do much to win that fight with Klitchsko. Sure, it was hard for him to do so, but he was too willing to take those shots for one or two wild swings here or there, which is a very dangerous tactic.

And who's fault was it that he had an eye shut?

Probably find it's cos he got smacked up side the head a few too many times in round one by a guy 10 times better than him!

Williams will not get anywhere near a world title next year. As someone else said, it's in a bad state, but not THAT bad! The only champion I give him a hope in hell of competing with is Brewster, but even that is unlikely.

Before the Vitali fight I thought Danny would beat Harrison and Skelton but after seeing that atrocious display from him doubts start to creep into your mind, was the Tyson win a fluke? If he fought like he did against Klitschko against Harrison he'd get beaten in my opinion, Skelton would probably be a bit easier for Danny as his defence can have more holes than a golf course.

He should fight someone domestically before going abroad again in my opinion. Samil Sam would beat him again if they met.

People are quick to forget how immobile Tyson was after busting his knee early in the fight. He could hardly move a lot of the time! He had surgery shortly after that bout!

I don't think people realise just how far away from genuine world class Danny Williams is. Even after last weekends shellacking the Tyson win still seems to have 'credits' left and I guess the fact he stayed on his feet (sort of) for 8 rounds against Vitali will probably get him another shot at a world title or a name fighter.

He should take it too, Brewster, Ruiz, any of them will knock him out but he should take it simply for the retirement fund. Even after another world class exposing he can still drop back to domestic level if he so desired although I can imagine a certain smugness in retiring with a couple of million in the bank leaving Skelton/Sprott/Harrison to battle it out for £75,000 on Friday fight night.

Fair point, Goz. Perhaps he should get a bit more 'real' about things, milk it a bit more and retire nicely with some $$$ in the bank.

If he's going to take the big fights then nothing wrong with believing in himself, hell at Heavyweight you are only punch away from glory, we all know that. Train your hardest and give it 110% but yes he should also have one eye on which fights will make him the most money to retire on because in my opinion Danny Williams is capable of losing any given fight.

Yeah, but like literally everyone has said in this thread, his confidence is worrying. But perhaps he is just being shrewd and playing the over-confident card in an attempt to stir interest in himself in order to gain another big pay day?
