Depends on whether he was paying attention to his opponent or the girl in the second row.

Re: How Would Max Baer Fare Against These Fighters?
It's only fair to assume it's the best version of Baer, as that's what we do with other men...
He has the power to hurt Liston, who was a tough nut to crack, but I don't think he pulls it out. Liston the better overall fighter, & we all know the importance of a quality jab. I think both men hit the canvas early, with Baer staying down in the fourth.
Patterson gives him fits & out-points him over six rounds, before Baer pulls out the shot which wins it for him.
Ali has more trouble with Baer's busy assault than most people think, but he's still too strong across the board. Ali on fairly wide decision.
Holmes figures Baer out fairly early, & cruises to a decision.
Tyson too vicious & too speedy in his approach for Baer. A KO loss in the first three rounds. Baer's power could give anyone pause for thought, to say the least, but he was too clumsy to beat Tyson.
Baer-Klitschko's very close, in my book. I can't really decide.
Baer catches Byrd at some point. It'd be a difficult fight for him, & he'd look terrible for most of it. I think Byrd drops a points lead like Patterson & gets knocked out in the mid-rounds.
Toney too sluggish at this weight to win, but too durable to go out before the final bell. Baer more active, winning a decision.
Baer finds the button against Young fifty per cent of the time, & loses a decision the other fifty per cent. Like Klitschko, a difficult bout to predict.
In interesting (perhaps enthralling) battles, Baer finds a way to turn the lights out against Norton, Lyle & Quarry.
Baer fails to capitalise on an early (& thudding) knockdown against Frazier, but has his moments & rocks his man back on his heels once or twice in a great fight. Frazier just a little too desperate in the end, & stops Baer on his stool around the tenth or eleventh.
Baer gets Cooper out in about five, competitive rounds.
Lewis did his best work when he respected his opponents power, & I think he works heavily behind the jab to convincingly dominate Baer & either KO him late, or take no risks & win a wide decision.
Baer & Holyfield is very competitive for about eight or ten rounds, but, like Frazier, Holyfield wants it more in the end. He wins a fairly tight decision with crisper, more accurate punching. There would be some brilliant exchanges in this one.
I have him going 7-7, with two undecided (against Young & Klitschko).

Re: How Would Max Baer Fare Against These Fighters?
Sonny Liston wins by mid rounds stoppage.
Floyd Patterson gets caught and stopped in the 6th after winning the first 5 rounds easily.
Muhammad Ali wins a competitive near shutout.
Larry Holmes struggles early but rallies to take a comfortable UD.
Mike Tyson gets stunned several times before dropping Baer 3 times in the 4th for a TKO.
Wlad Klitshcko gets dropped 4 times and is nearly out of it in the 5th when Baer is DQ’d for hitting Wlad while he’s on the canvas.
Chris Byrd is pressed hard by Baer but wins a clear cut UD.
James Toney wins most of the early rounds before fading against the fast charging Baer. Draw.
Jimmy Young counter punches Baer all night long to an easy UD.
Ken Norton gets rocked, but is able to survive. As the fight progresses, Norton assi=umes command and closes Baer’s left eye in the 8th. Stopped before the start of the 9th, Norton by TKO.
Ron Lyle is outlasted by Baer in a classic slugfest won by Baer via 9th round TKO.
Jerry Quarry wins by SD.
Joe Frazier is just too quick and focused and stops Baer in the 6th after a few KDs.
Henry Cooper gets stopped in the 4th.
Lennox Lewis gets rocked a few times but is able assume control mid rounds to win a wide UD.
Evander Holyfield is just too skilled for Baer and takes a wide UD.

Re: How Would Max Baer Fare Against These Fighters?
Baer was a much better fighter than given credit for IMO. Yes, he had his 'clown' fights in which he couldn't be bothered (Braddock, the fights after the Campbell death) but at his best, the guy was a steel-chinned KO puncher with excellent stamina and great athleticism. Baer was a very quick guy whose speed is under-rated b/c he often threw such wide punches. He also had solid technique when he used it . . the guy hooked off the jab, had some beautiful body-head combos, a solid cross armed defense at his best. Here are my predictions:
Liston by UD.
Baer SD Patterson after dropping Floyd a few times
Ali UD Baer
Holmes UD Baer
Tyson UD Baer
Baer TKO 2 Klitschko
Baer TKO 6 Byrd
Baer UD Toney (outworks James all night)
Young SD Baer after getting dropped twice
Baer TKO 10 Norton in a great fight (really could go either way)
Baer TKO 8 Lyle in a great fight
Baer-Quarry draw
Frazier TKO 10 Baer
Baer KO 4 Cooper
Baer TKO 3 Lewis
Baer SD Holyfield
Liston by UD.
Baer SD Patterson after dropping Floyd a few times
Ali UD Baer
Holmes UD Baer
Tyson UD Baer
Baer TKO 2 Klitschko
Baer TKO 6 Byrd
Baer UD Toney (outworks James all night)
Young SD Baer after getting dropped twice
Baer TKO 10 Norton in a great fight (really could go either way)
Baer TKO 8 Lyle in a great fight
Baer-Quarry draw
Frazier TKO 10 Baer
Baer KO 4 Cooper
Baer TKO 3 Lewis
Baer SD Holyfield

Most people disagree with me on this, but I think Baer has been over-rated -- people give him too much credit for potential.ThatOne wrote:Sonny Liston

From this list, I think he could have beaten Patterson, Cooper for sure, maybe Lyle, Norton, and the rotund facsimile of the great middleweight and super middleweight James Toney who spent a few years masquerading as a heavyweight. Otherwise, I think he'd be in over his head.
Re: How Would Max Baer Fare Against These Fighters?
Max Baer prime for prime VS
]Sonny Liston
I see Liston blasting him away, much in a similar like to his wins over Williams.
Baer does everything he can to land that right hand and when he does, Liston's
left batters back.
Liston KO 4.
Floyd Patterson
This generally favours Patterson, with speed and accuracy, but Baer could land that
power shot at any time and yo yo Patterson to a KO. I do imagine Patterson going
down, only to get up and win the fight a round or two later.
Patterson KO 5
Muhammad Ali
Ali is able to move around, and frustrate Baer who looks crude. Ali slashes his long
range left and rights into Baer's face leaving him exhausted and puffy faced. As game
and brave as Baer is, he is out classed.
Ali TKO 10
Larry Holmes
See above, but in less time. Holmes is less fleet footed and uses his feet to drive hard
power shots that end the night earlier.
Holmes KO 8
Mike Tyson
Tyosn is fast, low and agressive. He blows Baer away.
Tyson KO 2.
Wlad Klitshcko
baer certainly has the power to come over the top and put Wlad on his ass. The
some times awkward Klits is at risk of this. Though fortunately on this night Wlad
boxes well and rams a long jab into Baer. Baer though gallant is stopped after 11.
Wlad TKO 11.
Chris Byrd
Byrd is able to peck his way to a safe win. He looks fast and frustrating as he
stays mobile, any time Baer does get near to nailing him, most often it is on
the ropes, Byrd is able to fly away.
Byrd UD 12.
James Toney
Toney looks sexy in this fight, he is able to work behind the shoulder well and
rolls with his shots nicely. This fight resembles a blend of his fights with Barkley and Ruiz
as the fight goes on, Toney is able to land more and frustrate the big baer more.
Toney UD 12.
Jimmy Young
Young uses his awkward boxing style to counter nicely, he is im much the same form
as he was when he upset Foreman. Though never wobbling Baer, he does land hard
shots. Young is in and out, clinches often but also lands alot.
Young UD 12.
Ken Norton
Norton can lose by KO early. BUT... for the most part I do see him stopping baer.
That being said.....Baer has the size and power to whack Norton once to end
his night.
Norton however is able to land his massive power shots behind his consistent
jab. Norton thumps an over hand right home, similar to the one he smacked
Bobick with, to put baer down.
Norton KO 3.
Ron Lyle
I think this would be a cool fight. Though Lyle is able to box and power shot well.
Baer gets in his licks. The fight see's the end with Lyle getting his hand raised, though
a close run affair it was.
Jerry Quarry
Quarry has the counter punching ability to get the win, but at the same time I can
see Baer smashing his way to a crude and clubbing stoppage win. Quarry though inconsistent
has the goods to stop Baer after himself taking some punishment, late in the fight.
Quarry TKO 8.
Joe Frazier
Frazier rocks and rolls his way on the inside, thumping into Baer;s body and landing
hard up top. Baer gets in some good licks, but does not have the jab or movement
to keep Frazier away, though he wrestles well in the clinch.
Frazier KO 4
Henry Cooper
Baer is able to whack Cooper out in a an crude slug fest. Cooper starts to box early
but is drawn into a brawl when he tries to bring his left hook to bear. Baer is able to
land the right hand and puts Cooper down.
Baer KO 5.
Lennox Lewis
Lewis works behind a heavy jab, and soon finds a home for his right hand. Baer has the
potential get himself a McCall or Rahman win, but not tonight. Lewis is able to end Baer's
night with a massive right of his own.
Lewis KO 4
Evander Holyfield
The fast, light and explosive hitting machine of the late 1980s starts of fast and
active and is able to out land on Baer. Holyfield's accurate and consistent combinations
blast away at Baer, who is unable to muster a decent counter game.
Holyfield KO 6.

Baer, in 79 fights only put down and out by Louis and stopped at the very end of his career by Nova, gets stopped in 6 by Holyfield, 5 by Patterson, 3 vs Norton? Beat by James Toney??
Ridiculous.
Ridiculous.

Re: How Would Max Baer Fare Against These Fighters?
Its 60/40 split imo that Baer would have bested the lower rung, but miss out on the better guys on the list. When Max was irate and willing, all it took was one punch and he would win. Even Joe Louis said, "Had he (Baer) been more serious, he would have been the greatest of us all."
