Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!

Is this just a classic case of the fighter always being the last one to realise the game is up?
Sadly, for Mr Hatton, this would be a pretty easy win for Floyd at this stage. Although I'm sure that is no doubt just me stating the obvious. I do totally understand where Ricky is coming from, but he's done, surely? If he couldn't last a few rounds with little Manny (despite Manny's pedigree), then how can he honestly believe that he could beat Floyd in (presumably) 2010?

I don't get the impression that this fight has anything to do with money for Ricky. He's certainly not short a few quid.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that would be the biggest earner out there for him, I just didn't get the impression that this was his motivation.DavidPayne wrote:jeej.

Perhaps it's a little less about me being trusting and a little more about you being cynical?! :P

Then how come he severed his ties with Warren over money then. He explained quite plainly that he left because he could get more money elsewhere, he went to anyone who could offer him more.
Ricky's 'man of the people' act was exposed a long long time ago - he's been about the money for several years, and probably always was.
Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
yeah cos most of us go to work for the love of it dont we

Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
Exactly, like any profitable venture they executed a great marketing strategy which made Ricky a lot of money. Career earnings is often something Hatton throws at Witter, not literally of course.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Really?jeej wrote:Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that would be the biggest earner out there for him, I just didn't get the impression that this was his motivation.DavidPayne wrote:jeej.

I don't know why people are "annoyed" at him for taking big money. Especially when big money equalled big fights.
If I was Ricky's old man (well not a manager, but an advisor for my son)... I would have been saying take the 250K your getting beating up the likes of Freddie Pendelton.
His "retirement" definately has the feel of Eubank's retirement after Collins 2. Waiting for the big money fight. Never heard a fighter say... I don't have itchy feet, but I might! Well, fighter DO have that feeling.... most fighters who make comebacks lose the desire and it comes back... but they can never "predict" that it will.

I'm not annoyed about taking money - most of us would. The Graham sacking left a bitter taste though (not so much the decision but the way it was conducted) and his continous ib for ib drivel became irritating. As for the chat show and repetitive comedy routine...stujones wrote:I don't know why people are "annoyed" at him for taking big money. Especially when big money equalled big fights.

There there were some great fights/nights though, I just can't see any more.

Hatton is well out of the picture for any up & coming 'superfights' and to be honest he has no chance of getting involved in them again.
Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
I think people are being a bit harsh actually.
He utterly dominated Malignaggi and if he really wanted to, he could get in the mix against Bradley & Khan.
I'd suggest he steer clear of Devon Alexander or any other southpaw though.
Hatton brought a lot of fans into boxing and we need to be greatful of that imo.

Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
Gomez, I agree.
Hagler.... I do agree, but I think opportunities might come his way if the "Superfighters" all fight each other and eliminate from the reckoning. Look at Judah, he keeps getting the opportunities. Hatton is still a sellable name.
If negotations prove to be tough amongst the Superfighters.... then Hatton make get a chance. He always has the "caught cold" excuse, and problems with Mayweather Snr as reasons for his drab performance vs Pac Man.

Thats a good point, he did bring a lot of fans to and attracted some much needed news space for boxing. I think Ricky would really struggle over twelve these days though, not to mention what it would take getting back to the weight. I don't even know what his coaching situation would be? Having fought and lost to Floyd and Pacman will he even be able to motivate himself for lesser fights? I think Khan would be a mistake for Ricky at this stage of their respective careers... Katsidis would be dangerous now. Of course there are some fights out there he can take and (hopefully) win and get paid but if I was him, with his financial security, I'd be thinking whats the point?G0mez wrote:I think people are being a bit harsh actually.

Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
its all about money, if it was not about money then hatton should realise that is could be bad for his health, PBF will wipe the floor with him..again.
Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
I thought Ricky may have followed Calzaghy into the dancing thing, easier money than getting flattened again by PBF
Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
I think Hatton realises he's at the end now and could get KO'd by any guy with a half decent punch. He obviously only wants Mayweather cause it's a huge money fight that, from a career perspective, is a no lose fight. Right now, Hatton has a solid legacy and while he has been well beaten twice, it has only happened against the very best of his era. I don't think he fancies taking a relativly small purse to risk another loss against a young, hungry fighter. To be honest I always felt that Hatton, Mayweather & De La Hoya always intended to fight a series of fights over a 2 or 3 year spell. Hatton's heavy KO at the hands of Mayweather threw that out the window long ago, but I still think Hatton is holding onto the idea of getting Mayweather back in the ring. Personally I'd like to see Hatton call it a day, I don't think he should be cutting down to 140 anymore and he really doesn't have the attributes to cut it amongst the cream of 147. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hatton Vs Marquez, in England, sometime next year.

Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
After the Manny wipeout Hatton really needs to do something special to get himself back into the frame at that level.
Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
He can still be a factor at 140, it's not exactly the strongest division out there and all of the current beltholders are beatable, all depends on 2 things:
1) does he have the motivation to go on.
2) who's going to train him?
A Khan fight would be out of the question as we heard it on saturday out of his own mouth when he said he won't fight Khan for two reasons: 1) they are friends and 2) Warren.

Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
Ricky has been out of the ring now for 6 months. How long do people think he can leave it before making 140 might prove too much? I know Hatton has always made the weight fine but he has also always been at his best when fighting regularly and keeping his body in an okay sort of state. He is getting older now and maybe looking as large as he ever has done.
I think Mayweather appeals because of the great amount of money, the very small chance he may feel he has of gaining revenge and if he loses, then he loses to the best again. If he fights a Bradley, Khan etc and loses then it damages his reputation far more although I agree with Gomez he can probably more than still compete against these guys.

Re: Hatton wants a rematch against PBF?!
There are NO super-fights, he will NOT get a super-fight, he has been in two super-fights and wasn't at the races in either one of them ! He IS in the position to have another fight at a lower level to retire on a win (but I would advise against it).
IF the world got turned upside down and the whole planet went crazy and for some reason the Mayweather rematch became even the SLIGHTEST possibility... then someone close to Hatton, either a friend or for sure his family, should chain him to his armchair. Those two results are going to bug him for ever but thats boxing. Fair play to him for wanting to get back in with them but the result next time around would only be worse. He REALLY needs good advice from those closest to him at this time. Advice based on his well being not his bank account.

I think it might be something more with Floyd. I think Hatton thinks that Floyd is a d1ck head and genuinely wants to beat him up. I think he can handle being beaten by someone like Manny, but he just can't get over that he lost to someone he so clearly dislikes. It's like, if the most arrogant, spoiled rich brat at school is running his mouth, and you decide to take him on, but then he flattens you, it's hard to swallow.DavidPayne wrote:jeej.

And Hatton's loss to Floyd was so comprehensive that he didn't even have the solace of saying "well, the judges robbed me."
Further, really, his whole career had been building to facing Floyd at some stage and everyone -- everyone -- told him he had the tools to do it. And yet it didn't work out like that. So, it's like that career crowning moment that he's convinced he could get right if he was just given one more chance, with, say, a different referee, combined with the great embarrassment and shame of losing to someone like Floyd in the way he lost.
I just think he hasn't come to terms with it.
That, and, you know, it would make him another bajillion.
