James Todd - 2-1-1 and fighting for a title?

Post by fistic mystic »

Does the boy deserve this opportunity? What happens when a boy starts fighting men so early in his career?

I’ve not seen anything of Kayongo. Though looking at his record - which can be misleading admittedly - he looks something of a banger. If I had to pick a winner, it would be an early stoppage for Mohammed Kayongo. Todd isn’t hard to hit, and his chin hasn’t seemed too sturdy either.

It's the IBA title.

Not really sure where the concept of "opportunity" comes into it.

For sure, it's a tough match against an experienced opponent, but why not?

Isn't that somewhat contradictory to your arguments on the other thread about McDonagh not being worthy of a British Title shot ?

Kayongo is a serious dude. He's been known to spar with Matt Vanda and Jason Litzau, and by all accounts he has power to spare. But he has been knocked out in both of his losses.

No, because in my opinion the IBA title is a totally pointless, farcial, non legitimate meaningless title. It's not a proper title, so yeah- sod it, let anyone fight for it.

The British IS a proper title, or at least should be.

Thats exactly the point.

Let anyone and everyone regardless of wins, loses, regardlees of ability etc fight it out for these IBA/WBU/Intercontinental/Masters/Commonwealth "titles" etc.

It would be nice to see the British title, and the quality of match ups made for it, to be above these.

Most boxers these days are scared to fight anyone that has a chance of beating them, give credit where credits due, this opportunity was put in from of James and there was no hesitation in taking it, he know it is a tough fight, Kayango is more experienced as a amateur and as a pro, but over the last 4 years they have both had the same number of pro fights, it will come down to who is the better fighter on the night.

Indeed, but it's best to see this for what it is- a British fighter going abroad to take on a much more experienced opponent.

It isn't a "title" fight, by any credible meaning of the word, and shouldn't be treated as such.

Todd is being matched hard, If the kid can fight may aswell know now.

Good for him. I wish more fighters took a leaf out of his book.

James todd is certinaly one to watch . Nobody has yet mentioned that Dean Peters Jr is a 226 fight golden gloves champion and that other spectators have reported the fight should have been todd’s. People are only looking at todds 2-1-1 record without ever seeing him fight. Historicaly in this sport people have underestimated the underdog and then the unthinkable has happend. Todd is a huge british prostect for the sport and his heart is that of a lion. He has had the privelige of training and sparing with numerous world champions in the U.K and has allways impressed and held his own. The british people have a duty! to get behind the welshman and support him when hes fighting three thousand miles away from home with only a handfull of his fans present! Mr tandy thank you for giving james this oppourtunity ! Darren Lindenburn :TU:

While we should support him, lets not be unrealistic, he is very much being brought in as an opponent for a mickey mouse title

Yeah- good luck to him. If he can find the punch, then thats great.

Possibly a bit of a career in the states defending the title?

I really hope though if he does win he doesn't bring it back here and start being billed as "World Champion."

Drew a spirited first fight (over 4) against fellow first-timer Adam Cummings, failed to register a shut-out win over Jason Nesbitt over 6x2's, out-pointed winless Adam Farrell next time out before losing on all three cards to Peters Jr.
Ranked just inside the top 70 domestically, a couple of places above Tamworth's Matt Seawright who's 3-22 and half a dozen above Karl Taylor who's 16-130-7.
Get ready Karl, if James has to pull out you might just get the call.
World title !!! Don't make me laugh.

It isn't much of a title, but it's more than a trinket if it raises his profile and makes him a target.

I think the more worthy discussion here is why two bright young Welsh prospects(and talk of a third also) have felt it necessary to go to the USA.

It does not seem that they are being developed in a careful fashion. Has the Calzaghe connection left them feeling their prospects are so likely to stagnate at home?

Was it Todd that Enzo was slapping about in that reality programme ?

Dont think I'd take kindly to my trainer slapping me in the chops over and over.

Yes. That was Todd .. he showed great control didn`t he? .. it was obvious to everybody except Enzo that the kid didn`t want anything to do with him.
