A perfect example of why Matthew Hatton winds me up...

Post by Deserter »

Taken from an interview of Fightnews.com:

What future ambitions do you hold for the sport of boxing?
I have been involved in boxing since I was 15 and been a full time professional since I was 18 and now after 42 fights I am ready to realize my dream of winning a world title. The IBO title is well recognized with current champions Wladimir Klitschko, Chad Dawson and Manny Pacquaio to name a few the belt is one of the most sought after.

Well this is a example that proves the following things.............

# A fighter - espcially a Hatton type - is gonna twist anything their way to their advatnage to make them look better.
Even hyping up a complete bogus title like the IBA or IBO or whatever.

# the fighter makes the belt - Lennox Lewis held the IBA title - but it didnt matter because he held the Ring, WBC , WBA , IBF belts as well - as well as the European title - Olypmpic Gold, etc, etc..............we knew he was quality regardless of what belt he had wrapped around him.

Joe Calzaghe and Naseem Hamed were long time WBO belt holders - but they made the belt - because they were good enough to clean up when it mattered and went on to win WBA , WBC , IBF belts too...........Naz didnt win the WBA but he stopped the reigning Champ in 7 rounds when the belt werent on the line.

Naz also knocked out the WBU Champ

And Naz also became the IBO World Champion - but once again he made the belt.

Barrera boycotted the belts and didnt have one - but before that he was a long time WBO Champ - but you knew he was quality and he won WBC titles up to Super Featherweight

Its fighters like Matthew Hatton and Enzo Maccarneelli and Gary Lockett , etc, etc who will win a fringe belt WBU / WBO but never beat a live World Class fighter and never win anything else serious that are the paper champions

To their credit Maccarenelli and Lockett both had a go against the NO 1 of their divisions but found that level of competition way too hot and didnt last 5 rounds between them losing in brutal KO fashion

I feel if Matthew Hatton fights the NO 1 in his division this future "world" Champion will suffer the same fate.

Its funny how Hatton albeit Matthew is hyping up the lowly IBA or IBO belt or whatever it is

But when Junior Witter held the pretigious WBC belt - Ricky Hatton turned his nose up that one but he was more than happy to have the bogus WBU wrapped around his waist for so long

WBC, IBO, WBU, IBA, WBA, IBF, WBO?

All the bloody same in my opinion, all for the purpose of making lots of money. WBC is probably the worst of those as well as it's ran by one of the most despicable human beings within the sport.

I don't know whether to be impressed or incredulous that you've once again managed to find a way to bring Enzo into the conversation against all odds

Yep he even openly admits he favours mexican fighters - dont get me started on the diamond belt

IBO is probably the most fare but as the head guy said "noone wants our belt" hence hatton-n'dou

The WBC gold medal awarded to the winner of the Pavlik v Taylor rematch amused me.

The fighter in question took a pay off because he knew he get nowt if the $30 million he was awarded was pursued.

He sold out too, because he accepted a WBC shot as part remuneration if I am correct in my recollection.

that's like Cherry picking and saying well, we all know this belt is small potatoes....and so for that reason, I have cherry picked a few name holders of it, because the belt can't stand up on its own.

I don't like him, I don't really respect him, I think he/ his camp will dodge any kind of danger for as long as humanly possible, and in the meantime you get (and always have) this warbling sh*te about titles to listen to. Although I'm not saying he isn't a decent fighter, because he is, decent...that's all.....with perhaps boxer being a more appropriate term than fighter.

Kevin Anderson summed him up perfectly by doing a Matthew Hatton himself and having an interview with the Boxing Monthly (only Anderson had won 3 British title fights at the time unlike Mr Big Mouth)....."I think Matthew Hatton is one of these lads that likes calling everybody's name out but doesn't actually want to get in the ring with them"

must be lovely to be respected by your fellow professionals like that

The fighter with the most amount of fights at Welterweight in recent years to have not worked up the knackersfor a crack at the Lonsdale belt.

Pah!!...Go Away.

My main worry is that these belts will mean a world class fighter climbs in the ring with someone completely undeserving and nowhere near the same level and gets seriously hurt.
There is no way Gary Lockett should have been fighting Kelly Pavlik, nor Jennings in there with Cotto to name but two. Still we have Zab Judah fight DeJesus in one of the worst mismatches I have seen for a long time for no belt. How can a guy spanked by Gamboa fight Judah at nearly 2 stone heavier and expect go get anything from the fight.
I also saw Woodhouse-Earl mentioned in Boxing News today. Another disgrace the guy is clearly in no condition to fight and should have had his licence remove years ago. These sort of things piss me off more than the bogus belts because people's lives are on the line and having them fight out of their depth is much more serious.

Good luck to Matthew Hatton. 40 fights indicates dedication to the sport. I hope he wins a belt for his efforts.

I don't care what belt anyone's fighting for as long it's an even and good fight and a fight for a IBO, IBA or WBU don't get on PPV on its own!

Hatton vs N'duo is no where near a world title fight, it's a International belt level at best or if N'dou qualifies a Commenwelth belt. Having said that though think its a good match up.

On the other subject though, I don't know why people are slagging Ricky off because he done brilliantly in his career and it's not his fault that he got so popular or fought for the WBU.

bollocks does it. He's been complaining about getting "overlooked" for the British title since my granddad was in short pants. No other British Welter in recent years has gone anywhere near that number of fights won without getting a crack at the title.

Everything he says is sh*te. He's sh*te.

...."come on in Boxing Monthly, Boxing News, BritishBoxing.Net Podcast, Manchester Evening News, Daily Sport.....sit down, have a cup of tea....let me tell you about my world title plans.....very avoided fighter me.....is that tape rolling?"

Just retire innit.
