OT: BNP
Just wondering if anyone else saw Question Time last night? What they thought of it, and Nick Griffin?
I thought he took a bit of a hammering, but it was very much him vs. everyone. A lot of times he'd start to speak but would be sharply interrupted or drowned out, nobody else on the panel got that kind of treatment. Also thought it was very easy for the other panel members to score points, all they had to do was come up with a little soundbite about 'freedom' or 'democracy' and they'd get a huge round of applause. Bonnie Greer ended the night with a little piece about how 'Britain is built on freedom of speech' which brought the house down, yet she's tried her best to deny Griffin that freedom all night.
When Griffin said a lot of people find the sight of two men kissing 'creepy' he was roundly booed, yet I agree, and I'd be surprised if a lot of you don't agree with that also? In fact I bet a lot of the audience agreed too, but nobody shouted up about it.
I'm not a BNP supporter, I'm kinda apathetic about the whole politics thing really. In the BNP's case though, when it comes to immigration and other issues there is a sense that a lot of people secretly agree with what they say, but can't bring themselves to admit it, if that makes sense?
anyway, anyone else see it? got any thoughts?

Re: OT: BNP
I didn't like the way they focused on Griffin and ignored the policies of the BNP - just as easy a target and more damaging in the long term.

Griffin is an idiot, plain and simple, always backtracking and contradicting himself at every opportunity.
He rants on about equality for women yet one of his own men was caught saying "rape should be bothing more than a misdemeanor because women enjoy sex so much" and "women are like gongs so they're there to be hit"
He goes on about the government failing to support the British troops which is fair comment yet this was the same guy who 10 years ago was stood on the steps of Coventry Cathedral ranting on about how the RAF pilots who took part in the bombing of Dresden were "mass murderers and war criminals"
and so on.
The man is a hypocrite and a traitor of the highest order and it's just a shame that shotgun cartridge didn't take out more than just his eye.

there's nobody more lazy, apathetic, idle and useless than the english. We have an entire underclass of chain-smoking white lightning drinking chavs, who think they have a right to stroll into a well paid job despite not having any qualifications or usefull skills, who denigrate immigrants for 'taking all the jobs' but when offered the self same jobs, turn their noses up at them. I've seen these morons with my own eyes down at the job centre when I was out of work a few years back.banjo wrote:Exactly, the wonders of living in a greedy, cater to the rich, screw the poor, Capitalist society.Adamj1987 wrote:i think you'll find imigration has slowed down and alot of imigrants have returned home because its not them taking the jobs it the fact there are no jobs, i myself am unable to find a perminant job but i dont blame imigrants for it i blame the greedy bankers that spoilt it for everyonedanieljenkins wrote:i argee with nick griffin about stop more people comeing over here its getting to much there aiant enough jobs for the british people know without bringing more immigrants over, i think nick griffin is a bit of a prick but hes right on immergration
People always love to blame someone else for their lack of 'good fortune.' It's human nature.
Yes there need to be controls on immigration, of course there need to be, it's just sensible policy, but the idea that this country has been ruined by an influx of cheap labour is clearly bollocks. What's ruined this nation is the erosion of entire communities and ways of life, as the nation is run along the lines of Keynsian policies and free market short-termism, and we bring up entire generations to believe that the self is all that matters, and that acquisition of wealth and chattels is how one defines themselves. This is what has caused the huge problems we now face, and the burgeoning knife and gun wielding underclass who believe they deserve respect, status and wealth without earning it.
Re: OT: BNP
Nick Griffin took a hammering last night and he deserved every second of it. He's a right wing Nazi who's trying to disguise his true agenda behind a more moderate one. Anyone that has described the holocaust as a Myth has no place in British politics and for him to claim Winston as a BNP symbol is disgusting.
You shouldn't be able to define a political party based on race in this day and age
I agree that we need to take further steps to curb immigration (the bankers seemed to have helped in recent times), but not in the name of the BNP. Griffin and his cronies are just trying to install fear and hatred into certain sections of the British population

The curious thing is, more Poles, Bulgarians etc are leaving now than arriving since the collapse of the sterling/euro rate and prior to the economic fall out all the immigrants I came across were working and I suspect all those that are now moaning were moaning about the lazy benefit scroungers sitting at home watching TV on their 42 plasma not the Polish girl serving their coffee.
Well the Poles and Bulgarians didn't take the jobs of lazy fkkers on their sofa claiming incapacity benefit for being obese did they?
No, they took the jobs those lazy fkkers weren't prepared to do, like cleaning, waiting etc.
Your place of birth is good fortune. If I'd been born in Warsaw and saw the chance to make a better life for my wife and children in England would I take it? Would you take it? Fkking right you would.
I do have some sympathy with those who claim a loss of Britishness and a sense that the PC brigade have us doffing our caps to the traditions and proclivities of others while being told that our own rituals are offensive. But I'd argue that that, is on the whole, a myth. 99% of immigrants, I'm sure, wouldn't give a chuff if you wore a Union Jack suit and danced around the high street on St. George's day singing We'll Meet again while clutching a bunch of poppies and necking tankards of warm beer on Easter Sunday.
And of course, if you don't like the idea of immigration be sure to be available when we starting counting the millions of repatriations from Australia, US, Canada, France, Spain, South Africa.........because of course, what Mr Griffin seems to forget when he mentions the "indigenous" English population going back 17,000 years is the we've spent most of the past 1000 trying to conquer the rest of the world and inflicting Britishness and Christianity on Asia, Americas and Africa. He must find that abhorrent.

the reason he got hammered is that he is a moron. This guy is a politician supposedly, what's the going on about saying he finds gay men creepy. I find clowns creepy, but I'm not a policy maker, so it's not really an issue.Mensa07 wrote:Just wondering if anyone else saw Question Time last night? What they thought of it, and Nick Griffin?

Griffin's is the politics of 'I don't like this' that's his only agenda. Nothing positive to say, and no plan of how to address the myriad of issues we face.
Re: OT: BNP
I actually think some of the BNP's policies would be huge vote winners if one of the mainstream parties adopted them.
It wouldn't suprise me at all to see a party win and election in this country based around a zero tolerance approach to immigration and crime, with things like national service thrown into the mix.
Some of that certainly seems to go down well in Australia.
I agree that it's uncomfortable to admit you actually agree with some of the guy's comments, that's because he's clearly a racist bigot, but still, I think if someone a bit more liberal and mainstream took a sensible approach to tackling some of the BNP's more workable policies I'm conbinced they would be huge vote winners.
I'm not talking about any of the hating: racism, homophobia etc here, just to clarify.

I agree i live in an area where there is high unemployment and TBH 90% of the people who are unemployed arn't looking for employment just looking for the free money with benifits. it has an adverse affect on me who has qualifications and skills but i get tarded with the same brush because i'm young and don't have a perminant job (i do work its just agency work and its not regualar) and its making it hard for me to find a good careerjamesmcdonnell wrote: there's nobody more lazy, apathetic, idle and useless than the english. Yes, let's imagine that we had a repatriation policy for a moment - we would overnight become international pariah's, would be in breach of EU employment law, and we'd have countless thousands of jobs with nobody to do them.Wax On wrote:I actually think some of the BNP's policies would be huge vote winners if one of the mainstream parties adopted them.

Immigrants who come to this country, by and large, endure horrific working and living conditions to try and make a better life. For every nigerian dole-scammer, there's a thousand people working for minimum wage.

Yeah Wax, but that's because we've had thirty years of cnuts in power who think it's okay to be racist-under-a-thin-veil. It's how Maggie defanged the National Front. But the position that mainstream British politics finds itself in now is that having decided to follow in her footsteps demonising the (brown) Other, when the toadlike Griffin comes along they can hardly all turn around & have a proper discussion about immigration & its benefits terrible thing rather than a symptom of their globalising, privatising policies, so now when a Nazi agrees with them they're buggered.
Having said all that, I think, if your biggest concern -- in a land with ever-increasing chasms between the rich & poor, exploitation of dwindling natural resources & the longest recession on record -- is immigration, you need your head looking at.

Perhaps Griffin should identify that area, and he can put all the immigrants there, so he can realise his dreams of racial purity that he discussed with his mate from the Ku Klux Klan.DavidPayne wrote:Not to mention the 30% of our land mass which will be under water by the time 2050 comes around.
Re: OT: BNP
Of course Nick Griffin took a hammering last night. That was always the plan wasn’t it?
I agree that Griffin isn’t the brightest of people, he certainly isn’t the skilled politician that Jack Straw is.
Griffin tied himself in knots when cornered - where as Jack Straw evaded the original question on immigration with practiced ease, as did the Muslim lady conservative representative when asked about her views on homosexuals.
Sure the BNP are relying heavily on ignorance to better their position. But the Muslim lady herself said immigration was a serious problem in this country. Fact is not all immigrants are black. I’d guess that most coming in are white. Colour of skin is a bit of a red herring in this debate I honestly think.
As for Griffin finding the sight of two men kissing `a little creepy` … those are his opinions.
Much the same as some people would find somebody with tattoos over their hands, face, head and body piercing hanging from their nose, ears, lips, forehead, eyebrows ` a little creepy` .. Because I do too.
Nick Griffin was made to look a bit of a plum last night for sure. But at the same time you had to admit he was a lot braver than our other political party leaders to put himself in the position he did last night. When have any of the other party leaders ever gone head to head with their counterparts and took part in a live tv political debate on policy(outside of the commons of course)? I don’t think they ever have have they?

Is commenting on gay men being creepy really what a politician should be concerning themselves with. What people do with their genitalia is really the least of our concerns at this moment in time.
griffin is not brave, if he was brave he would come clean about his holocaust denying and his beliefs in racial purity, instead of trying to disguise the BNP as a serious political party, rather than the right wing hate platform it is.

He's gotten people talking aboiut politics though. WHich is a good thing in these times of apathy. I'm not sure whether last night further legitimised the BNP or diluted them. If you follow. Is it more acceptable to vote for them now they've had this forum? Or does the exposure of the stupidity of the policy and leadership counter balance it? The harsh reality is most people are racist to some degree or another, its part of the survival instinct. In troubled economic times BNP scratch at that itch. Adn with the major parties offering a middle ground, wishy washy, try not to say anything wrong rather than actually say soemthing, then a mroe radical view catches the attention.jamesmcdonnell wrote:What are you waffling on about - question time is a forum for discussing policy.
