I desperately want to promote a show in Dublin but am a complete novice in the area, I was wondering if anyone here could answer some things for me here if they have experience or knowledge in the area.
I reckon I could get a decent pub venue and ring hire on the cheap. I would be torn as whether to market it as a boxing event or a night out with a dj or something after the boxing, that's just my insecurity about boxings draw these days. Dublin on the other hand has had very little boxing in the last few years so maybe I could find a niche if I could get going regularly?
What are the essentials besides fighters and a ring that you need to run a boxing show? I'm assuming you'll need a ring doctor and insurance, do they charge through the nose on insurance for the pro game?
In Britain what is an acceptable amount for a debutant to get paid? How about a low level tomato can?

There will surely be licencing required? Without a significant financial backin (either from yourself or elsewhere) this would be pretty risky if your planning on relying on gate receipts.
Holding it in Temple Bar might get you the business, but the venue costs would be huge I would think.

Don't. Dublin is a graveyard for professional boxing. I'm willing to run at a loss for at least one show since it is something I've always wanted to do. It'd be kinda difficult for me to promote one in the UK, up North I could possibly swing if pushed to minimize costs. I suppose how wide the loss would be would determine whether I planned a second show. You want to try runing a Amateur Show, get the local clubs involved and give them a chunk of the takings.
I have been involved with about 8 shows now and they can be a pain in the ass, but they were Amateur and the results were worth it.
You can get a Doctor for free if he supports boxing, just give him a free meal and his wife and its alot easier to get the venue if its for support of your local clubs, they will make money on the bar which will cover there costs and will hopefully drop the hire cost or give you a good discount on the venue. (Especially if you can make it a regular show).
Get the Amateur clubs involved as all the Officials are free, just free meals and petrol costs and maybe a nights stay for them and the Away boxers in a local B&B. A chance that one of the local clubs has a competion ring. Plan ahead get some posters up some cheap programe done on your home computer and local Bussiness will sponser your show, One for the Event, one for every bout and get donations for the raffel.
After all the cost have been taken out divide the takings up between the Amateur clubs, take nothing yourself. The next show you do you will get more imput from the local clubs as they made something out of it. Dont forget the Amateur clubs are a worth while cause dont go giving money to some other charity, untill your sure there is enougth money to go around.
