Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..

Post by whicker »

Well, Rhodes has won the eliminator... so, can we see this fight in the new year? I would hope so!

Moreover, its a fight Rhodes would be favourite to win in my opinion.

Fingers crossed it happends!

Sergio's record, for one thing. Look who he has actually fought.

And who has Rhodes beaten exactly? He was beaten by Gary Lockett and was being virtually shutout by the Euro champion, and Martinez is a much more skilled boxer than Moore. I see Rhodes getting widely out boxed. Don't forget what happened in the first 6 rounds of the fight.

Yes, but don't forget what such a brilliant stoppage can do for a fighter's confidence.

I'd like to see Rhodes given a fight against Chavez Jnr, would probably have to go to America for it though

sergio has 'beaten' cintron who would wipe the floor with rhodes. Also beat a Bunemaa who knocked out Made in Hell Karmazin.

I hope more popel think he is favourite so that I can lump the money on Sergio

Easy win for Martinez

Have you actually seen Martinez fight?

I think you're getting a bit carried away, Sergio would beat Rhodes with ease :oo

Well unfortunately you'd be in a minority of one I suspect Whicker. I'd love Rhodes to complete his renaissance and claim a world title, but Martinez would be too big an ask. He's a class, class fighter.

no way. :shame:

martinez would be a fairly big favourite with most judges.

credit to rhodes for turning it all around.

and improving his defence in a big way.

but he's not good enough for a fighter like martinez.

In Feburary 2002 - I was at the FAB stadium in Buenos Aires to watch Sergio Martinez top the bill on an excellent card and I thought to myself at the time 'this guy can fight'

When he was brought over to fight DG erm Richard Williams  As much as I rated Williams at the time - I knew Martinez would be too much for him and said so on here - but the posts from 2003 have been wiped out!

If Moore would have won last night, he would have deserved his chance as does Ryan today - they are both nice fellers and good fighters but to beat Martinez you need a bit more I think. But I am sure Ryan will accquit himself well when he does fight Sergio Martinez! Anyone for a trip to Luna Park in Buenos Aires? :box:

I was wondering the same coz I knew he was with Hayemaker and his trainer is Dave Coldwell. But last night Dean Powell was also in his corner and he's allegedly's main man.

Here we go again - more negativity about Rhodes.
Posters who thought before Friday that Jamie only had to turn up to be crowned World Champ - but the man who beat the man ain't got a prayer.
Some scoffed on here when it was posted that the Martinez camp has approached the Rhodes camp around the time this fight was made.
100% true.
Let's see what the remainder of this year brings.
Just to clearify, Rhodes is a free agent Promotionally, and Wazza is his joint Manager.

Not really, people are just posting there opinions based on the fact that Martinez is a very good champion.

Calm down mate. It's not negativity about Rhodes -- exactly the opposite, in fact. You yourself must know -- having been here a while -- that it's 'cos Jamie (lovely fella, good boxer & a class act btw) is one of those "fan favourite" fighters massively over-rated by the boxrec massive.

For the record, I think SG Martinez would beat Ryan, & he'd do the same to Mooresy too.

Well I've never said or read it on here, even before Fridays fight I thought Martinez would beat both of them handily.

Who said that? They should be banned from posting forthwith...

I had Ryan to beat Jamie Moore - Moore's style suited Ryan but Martinez is probably the worst
style for Ryan to face.

Agree completely. Have a look at my posts elsewhere Twenty Six and I've championed Rhodes every step of the way, but have always said Martinez would have too much for either him or Moore.

It's about styles. Pressure is the way to beat Martinez. Margarito showed that. Purely styles. :box:
