Khan threatens to turn back on UK over Froch comments

Amir Khan claims he is so upset by the bitterness and jealousy shown towards him by rival fans and other British boxers that he may quit Britain for a new life in America.

Khan, the Olympic silver medalist in Athens, has pointed the finger of blame at WBC world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch and British lightweight champion John Murray for their verbal attacks on him.

But he says he encounters a negative attitude everywhere he goes. ‘I’d like to live in America eventually,’ said Khan, during a break in preparations for the defence of his
WBA world light-welterweight title against Dmitriy Salita on December 5.

Ready for action: Amir Khan and Dmitriy Salita

‘It’s getting tougher and tougher living here now. I love the British public and it would be very hard for me to leave them. But my career comes first and and if I think it’s the right move to make, I’ll follow my career.’
Amir Khan

Hats off to me: Amir Khan feels more loved by the Americans

Khan regularly escapes from the name-calling in his homeland with his training camps at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, where he works with trainer Freddie Roach, and he believes he thrives on the positive American attitude compared with
what he regards as the negativity shown to him in England.

‘The difference in LA is that people appreciate what you achieve,’ said the 22-year-old from Bolton. ‘In England I don’t really see that. I see a lot of bitterness. It’s a mixture of everything. Random people in the streets, everywhere, whereas in America I haven’t come across any hate.’

The level of abuse suffered by Khan was summed up in a recent boxing website article, which questioned whether the light-welterweight was the most hated boxer in
the United Kingdom.

It compared the treatment he received from some sections of fans with that of Audley Harrison and James DeGale, who had enjoyed Olympic success and were heavily hyped as professionals but in the eyes of their harshest critics failed to match expectations.

Yet, it is the criticism from fellow professionals that has hurt Khan most. Froch recently described Khan’s world title victory over Andriy Kotelnik as ‘boring’ and said he was not a fan of the Briton, while the unbeaten Murray, from Manchester, has continued to call on Khan to fight him, even after Khan moved up to light-welterweight. Murray berated his rival as ‘a complete joker’.

Khan responded: ‘I’ve worked hard from day one to win in the amateurs then to go to the Olympics, turn professional, win the Commonwealth title and go on to bigger and better things.

It’s taken a long time and a lot of hard work. People think it’s easy. They don’t see me waking up at 5am to go running, doing my steps, doing the work. They don’t see the injuries, the aches and pains, the hard side of it.

‘They see the easy side of it, when you relax and chill. You buy a nice car, live in a nice house and have a lot of money. That’s the reason that in England there’s a lot of bitterness.
Amir Khan

Reason to celebrate: Amir Khan celebrates victory over Marc Antonio Barrera this year

‘That’s the reason Froch doesn’t like me. I’ve never spoken out or spoken bad about him. Murray, even though we’re in totally different weight categories, he’s still saying this and that.

At the end of a day I’m a fighter, and in British boxing there’s a lot of jealousy. Froch is a bitter person but I like to keep people happy.

‘I always give time to my fans. I want them to feel comfortable around me and see me as a normal person.’

Khan insists he does not want to become a celebrity, preferring to let his record of only one defeat in 22 fights speak for him. But he has attracted A-list names to his workouts near the Hollywood film studios.

Movie action man Jason Statham has been to see him, as has pop superstar Robbie Williams. Khan shares an apartment block with rap stars P Diddy and Snoop Dogg.
‘They speak to me and I find it kind of weird,’ said Khan. ‘I’m starstruck to meet these people. Look how big these guys are — and they’re fans of me!’

It is the way he is treated by ordinary people, though, that has made his time in California so heartwarming. ‘I kept my world title belt in a box in the gym changing room, I was kind of embarrassed because there’s bigger fishes out there.

'Then I showed it to one guy and he started showing it to everyone else. It makes you happy that they respect a world champion.’

In other words,

He has already planned to leave the UK anyway, but in a clever marketing manoeuvre he will endeavour to tarnish John Murray (a guy he wont fight) and do Wazza a favour by putting some more boot into Froch.

Well Amir,

In the last two years you have been banned for 40 odd days for driving your super-charged Range Rover at 150+ MPH and have also knocked over an maimed an old guy using a pelican crossing.

Then the other week you crashed into a cyclist :-

Image

In the meantime everyone from Bunce to the whole of internet land declared your fight with the hand-picked weakest 140lb champion in Kotlenik a bore and that it goes without saying your glass chin was utterly exposed by the unheralded Breidis Prescott.

Whilst Breidis still lives in slum, you live in an apartment block with P-diddy and Snoop Dogg.

And dont get me started on your treatment and subsequent gagging order on Oliver Harrison, a damn good trainer who deserved better than that.

Your a turd.

Good Riddance.

Prescott should be the one with a belt and the accolades.

Hopefully, Salita will finish him in 7 rounds. :DDD

I like Khan actually. Minus the driving misdemeanors......couple of new ones there I notice that weren't on my radar.

That Salita fella looks familiar to me...I'm sure I've seen him stopping somebody on Friday Night Fights with Teddy Atlas. He looked quite sharp. If he has pop it could be interesting.

I can say honestly in all interviews I've seen of Khan he's come across as pretty humble to me.....I couldn't say the same about Carl Froch.

Khan is a young man badly advised with bad press releases earlier in his career but the hatred is a bit ott. Having said that, his treatment of Oliver Harrison was not good and for that reason he can leave the uk live in an apartment block with snoop the most overrated rapper of all time and learn to drive :OhYes:

If 10000 of my 'countrymen' booed me at Ricky Hattons weigh in at Vegas - I would be looking for a ticket out too.

Are we still talking about John Murray? There will be a fight one day I am sure and I cannot wait to see it! :TU:

Anybody who think John Murray has ever been in the same class as Amir Khan is nothing short of a lunatic - simple as that.

John Murray is a good fighter, Amir Khan is a world class fighter.

And if you were bored by the fantastic boxing clinic put on by Khan against Koletnik then you don't know what you are
watching. There were quite a few people who thought Koletnik was going to knock out Amir Khan! Oh dear!

Khan's fight, performance and result against Kotelnik was much better than Froch's against Dirrell. I'll give him that much.

i find myself in agreement with all of this. Murray is a monster to be fair, he did a brilliant job on Scott Lawton, who seems like a proper gent by the way....but do people see Khan getting stuck on the ropes like that....Not me.

And I know I'm in a minority of about 1, but I don't even think Khan's chin is particularly bad. Prescott was a monster puncher and the fight was only 20 seconds old, i.e. Khan's chin wasn't warmed up...not that I'm saying them shots wouldn't have KO'd him anyway, but they'd have KO'd anybody up to supermiddle weight I reckon.

The other times, Khan got up, and got them out of there sharpish. With his style he is bound to catch a couple, they probably land harder on him because he is normally jumping in when h gets caught, making the impact greater.......bit like Calzaghe against RJJ.

With maturity, Khan will be hitting with some serious power and he'll be getting caught less IMO. I hope he goes all the way, I feel he can.

I think what he said is right, Frochs got a big mouth and so has john murray, there the working mans champions and you just have to read some of the comments on this forum to see people hate khan because he's acheived something when murray hasnt. Maybe Khan should just smash up murray and shut his mouth for him. Unfortunatley we may have to wait for murray to become a world name, so the fight will probably take place in 2020 where some fighter have been replaced by robots and bionically enhanced women.

Same with Audley Harrison, the people in this country support the underdog and seem to hate the real champions or anyone who gets beaten at any point, if Calzaghe had been English rather than Welsh i bet he would have the same problem. The scots and the welsh always back their champions, and i remember when Calzaghe fought robin reed he got loads of flack from the english supporters.

Exactly but why is murray considered by many as the best in britian when khan isnt, consider what khan has acheived and that he is clearly far superior to murray in every aspect of his boxing.

calzaghe had the luxury of going back to wales where he was the most loved man alive. If khan chooses to move to america then its the samething in my opinion he's highly rated in the US, and more shame on the british public who should be supporting him more.

I can assure you Calzaghe wasn`t even `the most loved man alive` in Newdridge for a very long stretch of his career. It was only the TV hype towards the end that made it seem that way..
