yep, there are underrated fighters out there.

anyway, one thing everyone may have forgotten. roach wanted murray. you could probably construe that khan also wanted murray. they seemed to have their own ideas and i think even announced the fight through websites? remember t'other month when there were khan-murray rumours?

BUT:

warren - the man who knows best - didn't want murray. what does that tell you? too much risk, not enough reward.

oh, i can't resist. i'm going to say it:

"AMIR! DON'T LEAVE US!"

reminded me of when my stepbrother left home, i said don't go! and he slammed door on my fat little fingers...

murray is due a heavy defeat one day soon. i almost hope he earns a shot at someone like Katsidis

someone who is strong enough to stay in there and trade with murray- OR someone with real movment skill and stamina- will either smash him up or school him sooner or later IMO.

tallish kid staying in there all longbacked and fighting like he's some sort of mexican = recipe for disaster sooner or later IMO

he's not the fastest on his feet and has excellent physical strength though. i like his accuracy and he is extremely well schooled, tailoring his style to the opponent. that was some neat boxing v thaxton, who should have at least trouble dhim with southpaw style and strength, but didn't. he seemed to announce he was more than just a pressure fighter, that he's a quality boxer in his own right, and his speed and timing impresses me.

if he wanted to fight prescott, if he wants to fight katsidis, there's no faulting his attitude. i think he will go further than say tony dodson or richard williams who might have been considered next big thing due to an impressive win or two, but who weren't able to take it above domestic level.

i think murray has the right style considering his physical strength and ability to throw hard short punches. look at jose luis castillo. tall mexican, had some solid tools to chip away at and stop opponents. slow on his feet, extremely strong. little head movement but able to block and parry, edge in and out of range and have ppl caving it at end of fights from taking the same shots all night (hooks, uppercuts).

it's a shame there's no shea neary/colin dunne/wayne rigby/michael ayers/bill schwer or even micky ward or gatti type of opponent. reckon he would have been right at home in fights like those and would have been in some genuine classics. murray certainly looks like he can do light welter, where those guys put on some of the best fights i've ever seen.

I love this forum. It is great.
Moore was found out by the slick style of Rhodes as I initially thought would be the case. Look how clueless he is when Rhodes dips underneath and lands a perfect right hand for the first knockdown. I don't buy the stamina excuse, it's simply an excuse fighters use. Moore will get beaten up at 160 too as he is limited.

You seem to get a hard on when a pressure fighter comes along.

As for Dirrell, he made froch look very amatuerish. He should have pressed the action and engaged a bit more, he showed he could really hurt froch. I think he has the mentality of an audley harrisson though, which is a shame. However, you have to score rounds as you see them and i though dirrell deserved more. if you were on betfair after the fight, froch was available at 3.2. I couldn't bring myself to take those odds.

Khan seems a pretty humble guy at times, behind closed doors I suspect it's a tad different but 90% of the population would be far worse if they had fame and fortune at such a tender age, trust me.

For whatever reason Khan has decided to move, and I don't think it's because of what Murray and Froch have said, the bottom line for me is, by moving to LA it will improve him further still as a fighter, which is the most important thing.
Take him away from the bad influences and comfort of home and put him somewhere Boxing will be number 1, 2 and 3 in his life.

Good luck to the lad.

Some of the stuff being written here is pathetic to be honest.
From the isinuations that British Boxing fans are racist and don't like fighters that aren't white(don't cite Hatton's fans in Vegas as proof, 80% of the punters who travelled out there did so because of the event and have little or no interest in the sport)to saying that Froch and Murray have total respect from all British Boxing fans!

Khan is moving for whatever reason and this is no more than a poor press release from FWanky and his crew.
I fully expect FWanky's Saturday rant to have the news that 'Froch/Murray drive Khan from Britain'

I actually like Khan, sure he comes across as a bit thick at times but he is a nice lad who does a lot for people outside of boxing.

The downside to Khan is those he brings with him, the people who surround him are idiots and will continually drag him down and also he brings a horrible element to watch his fights who always cause riots(although to be fair he isn't the only fighter who draws this sort of idiocy)

That's precisely the point. He can't specify because there is no apparent justification.

OK, so he has been a bit naughty on the roads. Fair enough to criticise him for that. But when Kevin Mitchell gets done for drink-driving, the reaction is "we shouldn't talk about what he does outside of the ring".

OK, so he sacked Oliver Harrison. But how many other boxers have had acrimonious splits from trainers? Almost all of them.

Khan would smash Murray, it would be a mismatch. Murray is the typical Manchester pressure fighter who isn't hard to tag. He has been pro longer than Khan and only just went for the British title last year and Froch waited till Calzaghe retired because he knew he would of got smashed and was being duped into shit talking probably by Hennessy.

Was bad how Harrison was treated by Khan was horrible under him, Roach has proven the best for him. Khan lacks his own imput so a trainer like Roach is good for him.

Khan should be a G like Snoop and tell us how he's leaving the UK O.g style dawwwwg. :OhYes:

did you happen to see "not that long ago" in my post.

it clearly is relevant as he's always really been a light welter yet was getting hurt by over the hill and underpowered super feathers.

Yes I know you said "not long ago", but things have changed. What is the point of criticising someone for "not long ago" when he has "now" eclipsed that?

khan was a world class ama, given every opportunitye even after being splattered, huge money being spent on him (trainign with roach). you'd have to say he's had every opporutnity and then some. he won his WBA title so fair is fair - i think some ppl are very, very keen, very overeager to write murray off. it's like they need him to fail.

murray learned his trade in the pros, as far as i know he didn't have loads of amateur bouts, came through quietly, settled into a mature style and was ready for big fights in early 2007 but was allowed to go stale by his promoter and has always been given a back seat to jon thaxton which may have retarded his career some. it has been what looks like a bargain basement british ttile reign, he's smashed his way to EBU mandatory, but because he wasn't moved faster, his victim lee mcallister has beaten him to the european title fight. incredible.

it amazes me how ppl overlook the business side of things. utterly amazes me.

who are khan's 2 world class opponents? prescott and kotelnik? oh no, you're not bragging about the barrera farce are ye, lad?

I'm not bragging, I'm just not anti-Khan. Kotelnik is one of the two, nobody can dispute that.

Barrera fits into the Boxrec Classic of "He's going to obliterate Khan, who's absolutely shite", and then when Khan wins, it's "Barrera was actually the one who'se absolute shite and the win means nothing".

I'll agree Barrera was past his best, but a LOT of people favoured him to not only beat Khan, but to crush him. Some even talked of a career-ending defeat. And anyway, I put the WBA/WBO comment for clarification - regardless of the true merit of the win, Barrera was ranked highly with the WBO at the time, while Kotelnik of course was WBA champ.

huge overreaction to a defeat in which an aggressive fighter proved to be weak at the weight, vs a determined, hard hitting, tricky foe who was making the last stand of his career. boxers lose fights. the good 'uns come back. then you can start your bullshit. all over again.

Not to mention Barrera had a name which mattered, Amir can go "I beat Barrera" get's him a lot of exposure, Amir could have gone "I beat John Murray" cue the blank expression of the interviewer/tv show host etc.

anyway, i couldn't have cared less about the fight when it was happening. i respected khan for kotelnik win. but barrera was more of a confidence trick from warren, which seemed to really work as khan seemed to have more self belief after. the fight was a farce, but it got khan ranked, it got ppl talking about khan.

i think john murray has some nice wins, underrated wins, but i sometimes wish his promoter would get him some kind of opportunity like that. not exactly like that, but one with great risk reward that would move him up now that he appears ready, while giving him something big to learn. perhaps we will see something of that sort. if we do i have the feeling it will be a 50-50 fight or even 60-40 fight AGAINST murray. so if he gets chance, comes through, then it'll be a case of well done to him.

kahn does have a MASSIVE head start on all of his peers because of the money that is spent on him, because of his achievements going back to 2004 in the olympics. i think ppl need to take this into account, surely.

Of course the Olympics gave him a headstart. That is precisely why he gets opportunities that others don't. It is just reward for what is a massive achievement, not something that should be complained about. No, Khan and Murray did not turn pro from a level playing field, but people criticise Khan for catching certain breaks despite not accepting he EARNED a greater starting position.

anyway, to be honest i always believed both would go on to big things.

this is a good heated thread, but i think ppl are doing a bit of a froch/murray backlash, perhaps for no reason. murray and froch probably have nothing to do with khan leaving the UK.

i know message boards is only one area of media, but i have seldom seen more abuse disproportionately heaped on a fighter than murray and froch. BS forums, ESB forums, some of the stuff you read on there is bang out of order, if you ask me.

You make a very valid point Oliver, Khan does have certain things in his toolbag that make him more accessible and promotable to the general public and with that, more earnings.

But I think this thread is going off topic slightly.

Khan is saying he is leaving the UK because of negative comments.

I just have to laugh and see how Team Khan have singled out a rival promoter's top 2 fighters for the stick.

The ongoing bad feeling between Steve Bunce and Amir Khan lingered for weeks on the Bunce boxing hour, due to comments or allusions by Bunce as to Amir not facing his true rivals in the UK and instead is drafting in small, old opponents to pad his record with. Bunce often said that he should fight John Murray.

That said, considering Froch's comments about his concerns over his chin (shared by everyone) and the fact that he admitted that he'd not watched the Kotelinik fight, but was advised by his mate that it was 'pretty boring' - which were made to small nondescript websites and then you consider Bunce's comments are going out on television to thousands of dedicated boxing fans... yet Bunce don't get a mention !

Why is that?
