Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
not especially impressed by Abraham to be honest. In my mind the man was an all round fighter with a clinical finish, from what I've read, but had not seen any footage. In reality he doesn't throw many punches, he throws a lot of wide punches, and he complains a lot, often without justification for me.
He boxed in see through shorts ripped at the front, and done up with tape at the back. Sort it out Arthur.
However, with knock-out power like that, does he even need to throw very often.
It will be real interesting to see what Dirrell will have learned from watching his compatriot, Jermain Taylor. I predict more of the same. From both fighters. Dirrell will be ultra cautious, and Abraham will look to throw little before trying break him up with strong combos to the body and look for a similar finish.
I'd like to see Dirrell try to adopt a more aggressive approach than Taylor did, and use his speed to get in and out fast and hurt Abraham, rather than pitter patter his way to catastrophe.
I can't believe I said this guy would have possibly beaten JC. Now I've seen him I'm convinced Calzaghe would have mullered him. That stand still and throw nothing for 30 seconds with the hands up would have allowed Calzaghe to use his supreme fitness and hit him at will.
I now think that Kessler will win this tournament, as he has the power like Abraham and Froch but is more fluid, and the movement of the quicker Americans, but punches harder than them. Plus top level experience.
I wasn't impressed by the German atmosphere. I don't ever relish going back to that place where I once lived. That somebody actually deemed it necessary to have a massive electrical display around the arena telling you where the f*ck you were, and the round, is so German......"ABRAHAM TAYLOR 7. RUNDE.."....Do me a bloody favour please. Overly Serious, humourless people in my experience.
It;s as well Taylor got KO'd and I'm glad he made a recovery, as there would have been a serious robbery in that arena had Taylor been ahead on points.
Nice touch by Buffer giving Taylor his credits prior to announcing the victory for Abraham.
Side note......most unimpressed by this 4 inch beard being displayed by Adnan Amar which is essentially hiding his chin, even moreso with that Chump O'Connor in charge...wasn't that a title fight? Shocking!

I thought Abraham fought the way he always does and I actually thought he acquitted himself well and made a case as a dangerous opponent in this tournament. If you weren't impressed by him then suirely you couldn't have been impressed by Froch either. In my book he looked one dimensional, clumsy and lacking the highest level technical skills.
Out of the two, I would push Froch down the list in terms of who will win this thing and Abraham has as good a chance as anyone.

Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
I love it how someone can not be impressed by Abraham, but would love to see what Dirrell does next.
Dirrell is ridiculous and he should have been deducted 5 points for not fighting.
Abraham is an unusual stylist, but with devastating wins over Taylor and Miranda at super middleweight, what is there to complain about? He fought good fighters and destroyed them.
I'm impressed with Abraham, I like his poise and control, and I like the suddenness of his attacks. He's a werid mysterious fighter who really breaks fighters down and dispatches them brutally.

X2 Abraham is a supremly talented fighter and the likes of which we do not have in this country, you could make a possible case for Haye.Autobarn wrote:I love it how someone can not be impressed by Abraham, but would love to see what Dirrell does next.

Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
Watching the fights on a bigger clearer screen last night made a massive difference.
I got to agree that King Arthur doesn’t do a lot for large portions of the fight. Outside of Germany he could be in trouble with that style. But he does have dynamite in his punches.
The two fights were very hard to score. So little was thrown (apart from Taylor’s jab) and even less connected. If Arthur was facing Taylor in the states I wouldn`t have been surprised if they had Taylor ahead before the stoppage.
And having a better picture of the Froch Dirrell fight/bore`a`than I actually had a draw.
Both guys did so little it was impossible to clearly give either guy a round .
All in all. What was shown last night made me think A Sven Ottke could have did well against any of those guys .. And Calzaghe would have had an easy nights work.

ive said it before and ill say it again..if dirrell is on his game then he could make abraham look very ordinary indeed.
i watched the taylor v abraham fight live on the porn dish, i thought jermaine was doing pretty well up till about the 8th or the 9th. he was certainly well in the fight.

Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
Abraham should have thrown that punch in the first round, he was saving alot of energy; great finish.
Taylor did alright, at least he came to compete.
Hell it was better than the Froch/Dirrell no-show.

I didn't know you read.
Arthur, terrific power.......Drugs came to my mind a few times to be honest, although I think highly unlikely, but that's how freakishly strong he looked to me. But doesn't throw many punches, at all.

Agreed, i was far more impressed by AA than i expected to be, his power is immence and he conserves his energy then releases it in damaging spurts, his defence was awesome. It will be interesting to see him fight someone with alot of movement like dirrell, i think he will have to much for dirrell, but it will be entertaining..
My vote for fight of the tournament Kessler v AA.
I think i might just have to buy the Kessler v Froch fight, just to watch Froch get schooled and finally realise that he is a shadow of the legend that is Calzaghe (a man he insulted), whats the bet Calzaghe and Khan will be watching that fight and cheering for Kessler the viking warrior!!!
Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
what i meant was that based on what I had read over 2 to 3 years, I expected Abraham to be a more rounded, fluid boxer, than what I saw. The fact he whinged a hell of a lot at what, frankly, weren't even low shots a few times, didn't help.kingfinn wrote:Hagler2002 wrote:This is were I stopped readingNorthEastBoxingFan wrote:not especially impressed by Abraham to be honest.

I'd built up Abraham in my mind as an unbeatable opponent in this tournament. But now I've seen him, I reckon Kessler's better. I can't wait to see The Matrix Dirrell, lol, get it on with AA. What better a preparation than to fight heavy handed Carl Froch away from home like that........my picks are Kess, then Abraham or Dirrell for this competition. Froch won't get a sniff.....yes, even with that big conk. I can't say I've ever seen Andre Ward but I don't expect that much to be honest or he'd be up there already in my book.
Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
I'll agree with you on the last bit, but its well know that AA is an economical, burst fighter, i was expecting that, what i wasnt expecting was for his power to move up a weight with him and for his defence to be so tight.what i meant was that based on what I had read over 2 to 3 years, I expected Abraham to be a more rounded, fluid boxer, than what I saw. The fact he whinged a hell of a lot at what, frankly, weren't even low shots a few times, didn't help.

Dirrell was alot better than i though he would be and i think your shouts for top 3 are pretty much spot on, however i think AA might be a bit to efficient for Dirrell. Having said that it might be that dirrell is just far to quick and fluid for AA, i didnt see much of a display of power from Dirrell agaist froch though so i doubt he will be able to knock AA out, not with that iron clad defence.

I agree, all this "Abraham is an unbeatable hardman" talk is bollocks from the usual "WAAAH! Someone's got tassles on their shorts & don't like to get hit flush in the chops with haymakers!" suspects. He whines too much, he's totally one-paced. Great puncher, but hardly unbeatable.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote: what i meant was that based on what I had read over 2 to 3 years, I expected Abraham to be a more rounded, fluid boxer, than what I saw. He doesn't like body punches (strange, for a short guy). When Taylor jabbed, he needed a quick left hook around the side to follow, into the floating rib. Instead, Taylor (like lots of fellas who've fought AA) tried to smash through the guard & hit the stomach, which only results in either breaking your hand on AA's elbows or bouncing your shot off his guard & into his nuts. Also, there's not a lot of point wearing yourself out hitting his gloves. When he eventually opens up, he looks so easy to time by a taller guy, but Taylor was so effed from jabbing the guard all night he couldn't do it.
I think AA will struggle to get to Dirrell. If he gets to Dirrell, of course, he'll decapitate him, but that's not to cast aspersions on Dirrell, AA would decapitate a lot of fighters.
Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
A lot of the result of Abraham v Dirrell will be location. If its in the states, and Dirrell can stay out of the way of one of Arthurs bombs then who knows ... in germany, they`ll favour Arthurs style heavilly.
My money is still on Abraham to win the super6 over all. Kessler I feel is over rated, Taylor could now probably be spoilt goods, Froch too crude (I see Arthur and maybe Kessler stopping him), Dirrell maybe go onto do well, Ward??

think most people are starting to think that the AA v Dirrell fight is going to be an interesting one. I think AA was caught with quite a few obvious low blows, mainly due to his defence leaving only a small target to aim at.
I think AA is bound to get to Dirrell at some point and destroy him, if he doesnt i can see dirrell out pointing him with ease, and if he can work round the defence he may even turn it into a Lacy v Calzaghe fight. Highly unlikely though. AA's defence and power is just to much.
Kessler is in no way overated tonyevs. He's got the workrate skill and power, he'll tempt AA to open up by standing infront of him then hit him with those precise powerfull one two combos, Kesslers like a sniper with those one twos. Calzaghe noticed that very quickly and adapted to suite, but can AA do that? time will tell.

Abraham has brilliant power and a great chin his defence is tight and is hard to hit. He isnt active enough though someone active who moved in and out would give him problem's imo. But his power can bail him out I see him and Kessler in the final

Abaraham is no Sibbo that's for sure.
Re: Taylor - Abraham....now it's been on Television...
he gets the job done. i like him. though sometimes i wish he'd punch more, he has won me over with his very unusual style of fighting. he has quiet spells, but there always seems to be an efficient plan. i like his jab, he really shoots it out. doesn't use it too much. he always seems confident that he has the right tools for the situation. reckon he's about to peak, and things could get very dangerous for his next opponents.
dirrell knows now that he won't be rewarded for negativity. dirrell seemed intimidated by froch's size. i think dirrell will get jittery at abraham's guard, or his inability to breach it. i think you have to sustain fast shots, bust through that guard, those thick arms, to beat AA. kind of like what vargas did to winky. at some point you have to force something through it. if you do that with AA it could come at a very big cost. dirrell may like fighting shorter man, but he could get bloody frustrated if he's hitting hands and arms. he reacted badly the 1 or 2 times froch put mufflers on and walked in (azumah nelson v jim mcdonnell style). literally fell over in panic. methinks dirrell makes a mistake and gets blown out.

How anyone can come on and completely write-off Abraham after watching 1 solitary fight against a pedigree American, needs their head looking at !
Especially when it was his first fight at the weight and put Taylor in hospital for 3 nights.

I cant remember him ever fighting at super middle before but maybe im wrong.
Either way, i don't know how anyone couldn't be impressed by Abraham.
He could have only topped it by wearing his Smurf outfit... i suppose the ostrich suit was ok upon reflection.
Imagine, being knocked out by a man in a smurf suit ?

He may not be impressive but the guy is very effective and wastes very little, while making his opponents work hard. He also carries his power into the later rounds, which at world level is a great weapon to have. The way he finished Taylor was brilliant. Similar to way Lennox Lewis lulled Hasim Rahman into his right hand.
Where is he fighting Dirrell? If it's in Germany AA already has a four-round start;-)
