Robin: Irish Billy Collins

Post by Ric »

Dan Cuoco of the IBRO has sent me Irish Billy Collins (and his son's) records for inclusion into the BoxRec database. He believes both are complete. However, you have entered the following 1957 bout (which, before I started to enter the bouts Dan sent to me, was the only one for Collins in our database):

This bout was not included in Dan's record. Can you (or someone else) confirm this 1957 bout?

Thanks 8)

Hmm. I'm gonna stop entering Sr's record until I can get some clarification here. We have Irish Billy Collins and Memphis Billy Collins. Dan's record for Irish B.C. is a combination of both. Are these two different guys? Or the same one?

Hello Ric,
The Springville, NY, Irish Billy Collins, is the one that Willie Barbois fought and should be the only one on that record. Irish was a National Amateur Champ and began boxing in '53. The Collins that you are entering, according to the '64 RRB hails from Memphis. The '59 RRB has him fighting out of Detroit.

Thanks. I'll pass this information onto Dan, and see if we can sort this out. It all seems fine, what Dan sent to me. I think the only discrepancy is the "Irish" moniker. Absent that, it all looks good.

Ric,

I merged his 1961-65 fights that were already in the database onto the record you were building

Dan e-mailed a message to me saying that we over here at BoxRec are doing a great job.

Man! If we could combine the resources, knowledge and man/woman-power of BoxRec, CBZ, and the IBRO (particularly if all/most IBRO members became BoxRec Editors), ....!? 8)
