Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..
Re: Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..
well if jamie moore is dead at the weight, it would be hard to beat martinez. i'm glad he's found his ideal weight and don't doubt he can do something big up there. a loss is a loss and good fighters can come back from losses, especially when there's a good reason - rhodes' awkwardness and moore's problems making 154.
ryan rhodes has just had a great moment in his career, and i hope he carries it up to world level. he has made a fan of me. he has wins over vuma and moore. martinez has been hurt by brits before, has been KO'd by a welter (margarito). get bloody home advantage, make an offer, give martinez a king's ransom, and make it bloody happen!
or will his promoters do the cheap, just have him defend European title till he loses? Canclaux, Proska, etc etc.

if 26 says he has no promoter i reckon that could mean, he will have to go for better quality fights....? i mean there is no rhodes bandwagon, he isn't going to start getting plenty of people buying tickets- unless there is a real big 'proper' fight to sell.....?Autobarn wrote: or will his promoters do the cheap, just have him defend European title till he loses? You seem to be clurching at straws as to why Jamie got beat.Rhodes boxed very orthodox for him,in fact, literally stood in front of Moore and let him hit him. There was no "awkwardness".As for the weight problems, fair enough, but dont you think Rhodes had them too?He has actually campaigned at middleweight and indeed fought for titles at that weight. He also began his career at 11st all those years ago.Moore is a career light-middle.Also,Jamie has the much respected Kerry Kayes in his camp. The guy is credited with miracles all the time. What happened? As i mentioned on another thread, just accept the better man won,Moore has, pressure fighters do get beat occasionally, you know...Autobarn wrote:well if jamie moore is dead at the weight, it would be hard to beat martinez. i'm glad he's found his ideal weight and don't doubt he can do something big up there. a loss is a loss and good fighters can come back from losses, especially when there's a good reason - rhodes' awkwardness and moore's problems making 154.

Autobarn,
I repeat, he's free agent.
Hatton hasn't grabbed him.

Re: Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..
look, i know the rhodes fans are upset because on here more ppl are talking about jamie moore. i don't need to clutch at straws. rhodes is clearly hard to hit clean, the way he rides punches. he is an unusual stylist, can hit, is strong, and was fighting with his back to the wall, in a small ring, in what on paper (EBU title, WBC elim) may be his biggest, and final, opportunity. he's a good counter puncher, moore forced the fight, got hit back with great shots. he wa a dangerous man in there, many - incl myself - got the physical/stylistic matchup COMPLETELY wrong. fights are seldom prime for prime. this is a huge chapter in the rhodes story. the factors seemed to be there, the opportunity was there for various reasons, to enable him to astonish many viewers, taking his part in a great fight.mickey1975 wrote:You seem to be clurching at straws as to why Jamie got beat.Rhodes boxed very orthodox for him,in fact, literally stood in front of Moore and let him hit him. As i mentioned on another thread, just accept the better man won,Moore has, pressure fighters do get beat occasionally, you know...Autobarn wrote:well if jamie moore is dead at the weight, it would be hard to beat martinez. i'm glad he's found his ideal weight and don't doubt he can do something big up there. a loss is a loss and good fighters can come back from losses, especially when there's a good reason - rhodes' awkwardness and moore's problems making 154.

moore looked weak at the weight to me, never seen him lose steam like that before in a title fight, before the fight he said he'd only have a couple more fights at 154 (which suggested there were problems), spud went on about the terrible problems he was having making 154, weeks ago. moore says that he'll never do 154 again, gave rhodes loads of credit.
rhodes is interesting. like thaxton he has come down in weight and had brilliant success. i think it's clear jamie moore needs to move up. but when they crossed paths, they put on the domestic and European fight of the year, and many of us are thankful for that.

'barn it'd just make a BIG difference if you could at least point to something that rhodes did well
you know, beyond just managing to stand there taking/ slipping shots?
bodyshots, bodyshots, bodyshots, mate. jamie lost wind? guess why....?
go back and check the tapes, 20 secs from the end of rd4, double left to the body. jamie's legs are never the same after
oh, and he stiffened his legs with a right hook earlier in that round. kindof a dress rehearsal for the knockdown. rhodes slipped inside Moore's jab and clipped him with a nice compact right hook. the big difference with the KD punch was Moore was about to throw a right hook and he was caught whilst winding it up, hence it had so much effect.
oh and while we have never seen Moore 'lose steam' i tell you what we have seen, we have seen him hurt by lesser punchers than Rhodes by a fair chalk.
so yeah, he may have lost some steam due to weight issues, but not IMO as much as he lost from the punches he was taking

Re: Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..
of course, and it is likely that if it was anyone other than rhodes, moore might have found a way. i am crediting what rhodes did, but feel that moore didn't look right also. can it possibly be both? can a fight be decided by many factors? is rhodes successful because like thaxton he moved down in weight; if moore wants future title success, will he need to move UP? course it bloody can. there are always lots of reasons.
recall what lampley said after hopkins v tarver. this was hopkins' 2nd masrerpiece. after the trinidad fight. vs trinidad, he caught a welterweight and used his size and skills to score his biggest win. vs tarver, hopkins came up and got healthier, whereas tarver moved down after beig heavy for his part in the last rocky film. he is it a bit more articulate than i did, but you can see how it possibly applies to fights like moore v rhodes.
anyay, i think this is really dragging out. shall we wait and see what moore looks like up at 160? see what he goes on to do? and see how rhodes looks in future fights at 154? (and hope that both do bloody well after putting so much into a single fight, the one they had vs each other).

autobarn reminds me of irish commentator jimmy magee. after the tyson fury fight on the bernard dunne undercard, where fury looked absoluetly awful as usual, he had a post fight interview and said he hurt his hand in the fight and couldn't throw it. magee said afterwards, "well, now we know there was a genuine reason".

But he did hit him cleanly, loads of times! And as for his biggest opportunity,Ryan has boxed for the MIDDLEWEIGHT w.b.o crown,12 years ago, against a guy who went on to lose it to Roy Jones jr.Slightly better prospects than a chance of a shot at Martinez. The truth is,Rhodes was up against everything the other night, the man in form, the crowd, the ring size, etc, yet stopped the 1/4 favourite.Autobarn wrote:look, i know the rhodes fans are upset because on here more ppl are talking about jamie moore. i don't need to clutch at straws. rhodes is clearly hard to hit clean, the way he rides punches. he is an unusual stylist, can hit, is strong, and was fighting with his back to the wall, in a small ring, in what on paper (EBU title, WBC elim) may be his biggest, and final, opportunity. he's a good counter puncher, moore forced the fight, got hit back with great shots. he wa a dangerous man in there, many - incl myself - got the physical/stylistic matchup COMPLETELY wrong. fights are seldom prime for prime. this is a huge chapter in the rhodes story. the factors seemed to be there, the opportunity was there for various reasons, to enable him to astonish many viewers, taking his part in a great fight.mickey1975 wrote:You seem to be clurching at straws as to why Jamie got beat.Rhodes boxed very orthodox for him,in fact, literally stood in front of Moore and let him hit him. As i mentioned on another thread, just accept the better man won,Moore has, pressure fighters do get beat occasionally, you know...Autobarn wrote:well if jamie moore is dead at the weight, it would be hard to beat martinez. i'm glad he's found his ideal weight and don't doubt he can do something big up there. a loss is a loss and good fighters can come back from losses, especially when there's a good reason - rhodes' awkwardness and moore's problems making 154.

flawed analogy. fury is a bag of...opticald wrote:autobarn reminds me of irish commentator jimmy magee. after the tyson fury fight on the bernard dunne undercard, where fury looked absoluetly awful as usual, he had a post fight interview and said he hurt his hand in the fight and couldn't throw it. magee said afterwards, "well, now we know there was a genuine reason".
moore looked to be gassing, moore being a fighter known for his engine. it reminded me of bowe-holyfield 3. holyfield looked wrong all the way through, bowe made it much worse, then holyfield staged an astonishing comeback, then got knocked out...after getting dropped by that right hook of rhodes', moore's rally was amazing. volleys of clean power shots, torrents of abuse, world class shots - and to think he almost turned the fight around: when he had NOTHING left. that is one natural fighter, a warrior with true fighting instincts.
and to see the twats and old women talking up dirrell, who ran for his life and "got stitched up", "got carved up" by the judges v froch LOL. ppl credit dirrell for "world class boxing" when he was laying a fvcking egg in there and doing his utmost to avoid any semblence of contact!

Re: Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..
I think that people are just wanting to see a sense of balance here mate.
By peeling the onion seeking refuge in reasons why Jamie lost this fight, you're coming over as a man on a crusade and as such your opinions are getting clouded because you're not spotting the obvious fact that Rhodes was a bit too smart, and a bit too strong and a bit too powerful on the night.
Everyone has weight problems from time to time mate .... you need only ask Ryan !
However as Jamie rightly pointed out, the weight is a factor, but not a major factor in the defeat.
To rest blame solely on that issue for the defeat is actually lacking in generosity to Rhodes.
You're not the only one doing it mate, there are others.
However strange as it seems, you are looking for excuses that the fighter himself, the top bloke that is Jamie Moore is not prepared to use.
Onwards and upwards for BOTH men.
I wish dearly that in the next 12 months Rhodes is a LM World Champ, and Moore is a European Middleweight Champ back up there where he belongs in the World rankings.

Re: Ryan Rhodes V Sergio Gabriel Martinez-- MAYBE..
i disagree. no crusade whatsoever. ppl are constantly having a go, yorkie switch hitters who are no doubt chuffed at the fight.
how can there not be balance in what i said? that moore seemed weight weakened but that rhodes was probably the best man to make him pay given his hard counters & how hard he is to tag cleanly?
of course rhodes must be tight himself. his face looks very drawn. some posters made very unkind observations about the state of his health, which i found bang out of order. fact is he couldn't quite do it at middle, but like thaxton he has dropped down one weight and found the form of his life. 2 great stories, and if you ask me, two great books - one day...by contrast, we may see moore go up, and show better form.
if ryan rhodes keeps on going well, i am sure the bandwagon will pick up and the yorkie backslapping will snowball. word of mouth will spread the 'net like a multiplying virus. heck, i may even join in. i will start building my thighs & gymnastic skills up and practise me yorkie thief style, so i can pickpocket my way through wincobank gym (in graceless parody of tricky style). let's not forget, rhodes was a bit off the radar for a long time. forgive me for not writing "all roads leads to rhodes, all rhodes leads to, rhodes leads sheffield, sheffield rules, shefifeld leeds, yorkshire pudding, mushy peas..."

I think i best leave this thread alone now as your posts are starting to get a bit unreasonable(unusually for you). And,btw,Rhodes beat Moore at his own game, stood right in front of him and outpunched him, thats why he "gassed"!

haha, i'm just having fun. some of you posters are acting like my archetype of yorkshire fighter. i can just see it, hangdog look on face, moody and simmering, fighting with self and with opponent, hamlet style.twenty six wrote:Oh dear, that's very sad Autobarn.

rhodes did very well. this must be form of his career. i hope he can carry it up - something i am reiterating. if he has no promoter, it could get very hard. could he end up fighting mandatories in their backyard, losing his momentum reet away? this polish dude, is it proska? the frog, canclaux. these sound like dangerous fights and if giving away home advantage to fighters on the up - this is very, very dangerous. hope he finds a promoter who can take him the WBC route.

Maybe Rhodes will have a Promotor - or maybe he'll stay a free agent and deal on a fight by fight basis with whichever Promotor shows an interest.
Who knows ?
I'm sure there will be developments in the coming weeks.
We'll get our flat caps on, take the greyhounds to the flapping tracks, polish our clogs and get ont road.
By the way how is Jack and the pigeons ? And Kev ?
Personally I wouldn't touch Molly with a barge pole.
