Not sure this thread'll be all that popular, but I thought I'd put it out there...
Mythical match-ups are just about inexhaustible in Boxing, thanks to the sport's illustrious & lengthy history, but what we rarely hear of are the mind-bending pound-for-pound matches. Rarely discussed, & rarely imagined. I want to make this thread about all the more bizarre, obscure matches. It should work in identical fashion to the Hypothetical Match-Up Game, where you post your matches, & let the next person answer, before posting theirs.
Here's a few curve balls to get the imagination firing...
Main Event: Jack Dempsey vs. Shane Mosley...
Undercard 1: Floyd Mayweather vs. Roy Jones...
Undercard 2: Billy Conn vs. Ricardo Lopez...
Strange Business...

Yeah, that's about what I thought for this one
One last chance for it. I can only say I tried.

No, wasn't talking about straight fights between big & little men. Just, pound-for-pound fights (if Conn & Lopez were the same size, for instance, who was better & would win)...funso banjo baby wrote:not sure what you want

Assuming you mean how would these fights have played out if the fighters were prime and also fighting at the same weight. If that’s the criteria, I’ll go with:Goodnight, Irene wrote:Not sure this thread'll be all that popular, but I thought I'd put it out there...

Mosley over Dempsey, UD. A tough one because Dempsey was very good against the bigger guys, but Mosely at 135 was speed and power, and I think a more skilled fighter.
Jones catches Mayweather and drops him a few times enroute to a mid rounds stoppage. FMJ is more skilled but Jones fought in such an unorthodox style and was so fast, I think he takes this one.
Conn by close decision. Conn was more experienced against a better class of opponent, and I think that experience would have given him the edge.
At least it's not another Ali thread, or Cranberry rant.

Re: Strange Business...
lmao, this reminds me, i was going to create a thread on the biggest mismatches ever schemed in boxing history [example, in the 1950's there was talk of Marciano vs Sugar Ray Robinson].
