I read the News of the World column too and Frank does say King approached him in Vegas and said he wants Calzaghe to fight Tito.
Sounds crazy but maybe the angle is based around a Hopkins rematch. Hopkins holds all the 160 belts, in any given matchup at 160 HE calls the shots, everyone is now a challenger and there are no bargaining chips left to pick up. Tito goes up to 168, picks up a belt and is pushed by King as the real (& 4 weight) champ there. Now the Hopkins/Tito rematch would be at 168, where King and Tito would hold the cards. Hopkins would have made his 20 D's, can dump the MW belts and sign out with another megafight for a bucketload of cash and the chance to become a 2-weight champ...

i still can't believe that tito, a blown up welterweight, knocked william joppy into next week. i seriously doubt calzaghe could have done that, and calzaghe is a naturally much bigger guy.
its obvious but tito really is a hell of a puncher to carry that power up so far. to put and keep down a tough, world class middleweight with heart, that says to me that calzaghe could get the same treatment.

Tito is one of my favourite fighters, when he has finally retired possibly one of my all-time favourites. Fearless, never avoided an opponent and in fact actively sought them out, fights in a very simple style but does it with such venomous accuracy that it's almost unstoppable (unless you're Bernard Hopkins).
I would hate to see him concede all the advantages and give the likes of Joe Calzaghe an opportunity to get his name on their ledger. Calzaghe would have all the physical advantages, I just wouldn't want to see it, Joe isn't fit to sniff Trinidad's jockstrap.
If it were to happen it would deliver one rare occurance: Me screaming my head off for a foreign fighter to beat a Brit....

BBC teletext last night reported that allegedly is confident he can secure Glengoffe Johnson for Joe. (

If it happens or not, it's typical of Warren to let Johnson do ALL the hard work in a very unprotected career and then slot Calzaghe in the backdoor having boxed a string of no-hopers and doing next to nothing to deserve a shot at the undisputed Light heavyweight king.

Sorry but I'd still pick Tito to beat Calzaghe despite the size difference. (not that the fight will ever happen)
We're talking about a guy (Tito) at the top of his game who has fought the best around for about a decade against a guy who has been pretty much fighting nobodies or has beens in his backyard over the same period.
