Bennie Briscoe

Post by jmc617 »

Here are all the Briscoe fights I have. He was great to watch I didn't know he fought Valdez three times I was only aware of the first fight then him getting stopped in their second fight. Also had no clue he fought Tony Mundine. I wish I could get my hands on those Hayward and Cuerto fights. He was also knocked down twice and came back to stop Richard Guterriez in the second.

I never saw the Briscoe v Mundine fight, but I remember reading about in Ring and seeing a photo when it happened. Back then it was actually a surprise to me because Mundine had really put a nice streak togather with wins over Griffith, Moyer, Cohen, DeLima, Aguilar, Sterling and some others.

Thanks. Bennie was one of my favorite fighters of the 1970s. Heavy hitter and tough as nails, which is why it was so surprising when Valdez stopped him in their second fight. Would have loved to have seen a prime Briscoe-Hagler. By the time they fought, Hagler was on the way up and Bennie was on the way down.
Amazing to think that over the course of his lengthy career, he fought Monzon twice, Cuban great Luis Manuel Rodriguez twice, Valdez three times, Emile Griffith twice, future WBA light heavyweight champion Vincente Rondon, future light heavy champion Eddie Mustfa Muhammad, future middleweight champion Vito Antuofermo and Hagler.
