Post by ryan711 »

Just found this on Dan Rafael espn's boxing writer blog: don't be shocked to see the return of heavyweight Cristobal Arreola. And don't be surprised if David Tua is facing him.dont know if any 1 else has heard any more?

Great fight, IF David comes in that short of shape he was in for Shane he destroys Chris IMHO. It will be fireworks while it lasts. Cant see Arreola hanging with a fit, motivated Tua right now. Although he did show how tough he was against V. Klitschko.

Personally i think its a great fight for Dave. Winner would be pretty clos to another title shot!

Well Tua wouldn't have to go looking for Arreeola in the ring - they'd be right in each others faces. So I'd pick Tua KO4 - provided he's in shape which I believe he will be should this go ahead.
Personally I think this is a bad fight for Tua because he would be close to a title shot afterwards - he needs a few more rounds IMO Needs to find a taller boxer that will take him into deep waters.
My reasoning on this is 2 fold - first it would be beneficial to Tua for him to make sure his stamina was there in the late rounds, and that he still carried his power late into the fight. And secondly get some practice getting way inside in a fight situation, which will be critical should he ever fight either Klit bro. We know that the brothers will use their height to their best advantage, so it's imperitive that David can slip jabs while coming forward effectively and get his own shots off inside IMO.
I have serious fights about a fight with Arreola coming to fruition however, doesn't make sense that Arreola's handlers would put him in with a guy like Tua, who has every chance of knocking him out, so soon after the beating he took from Klit. Tua would probably take this fight in a heartbeat I'm thinking...

I'm hearing HBO will likely baulk at it because it would cost too much and it's their last show of the year.

Arreola aint to disimilar to Cameron, hes a shorte heavyweight, powerful, stay right in front of you has plenty of heart courage as does Cameron but hasa questionable chin. YEs he did well against Vitali in taking what he had to offer, but he has been dropped be Travis Walker and I think its pretty clear Tua would hit harder than Walker. It would be the perfect fight for Tua really, as hes already spent alot of timetraining and preparing for a guy like Arreola already in Cameron. Tua currently in great shape so if it were done before the end of the year (highly unlikely) a 6 week camp for Tua woul be ideal, he'll come into the Arreola fight sharper and more prepared than for Cameron.

I think it would be a WAR while it lasted Tua to :KO: Arreola in the 3rd!

I agree with that bit. I doubt this will happen. Not an ideal choice for Arreola coming off a loss. He will fight someone with less power than Tua. However, Arreola stands a better chance than Cameron if it did come off. He's a better boxer and has some return power. The experience Arreola has gained in his last 5 fights would be more than Camerons entire career. It would be interesting to see.

I agree Toppity, Arreola already has World Championship experience and has fought the tougher opposition than Cameron. ID say he'd provide more of a fight than Shane, however in saying that style wise its Tua's fight to loose, Arreola can box a bit but it remains ot be seen wether he can keep a hungry, fit, motivated Tua at bay for 12 rounds!

The Paul Williams fight (opponent yet to be named) is the main event on the card. Whoever Arreola fights it is only the main support bout. Arreola is a young man (28) and has only lost to Vitali Klitschko. He is hardly a has been.

question to those who know.......... Tua has to fight 2 more fights on his kiwi TV contract. Do they need to be his next two fights, or just two more? The answer puts into perspective his immediate opportunities.

From what I hear it's his next 3 fights.
All this really means is any promotions he is on in his next 3 cant count on PPV sales here in NZ, which in itself isn't a huge problem considering the comparitively small revenue stream it would generate. The main issue is that the agreement was made for $50k per fight from MaoriTV, which clearly isn't enough to entice any decent fighters down here. So this contract effectively stops any decent heavyweights fighting Tua in NZ until it's run it's course.
From what I understand Tua can go to Aussie or the States and fight, there can be PPV sales in those countries etc... but it will be free to air here in NZ, and Tua would still pocket his $50k per fight from that contract as MaoriTV has only purchased the NZ TV rights.

Situation is a bit complex given the broadcasting rights etc. We will all know (very) soon enough. All others and above is speculation. Tua camp are aware they need to act quick so hopefully they will have a word this week, whichever way.....

When Tua dropped Cameron, i thought this would be the best fight for both fighters. Hopefully Tua gets his chance against him

found this lillte bit on a nz paper
Duco events also confirmed they have got a signed contract from Ahunanya, who is reportedly keen for the bout, but are refusing to give anymore details until they have had further discussions with the Tua camp.

Ahunanya would at least privde Dave with another good tune-up bout. Its a natural progression to go and then beat the guy whobeat Shane first looks good in the non-knowlegable fans eyes, and kinda makes sense in NZ given Fridays rep.

I like the idea of Dave having a live tune-up which is what Friday would be. As opposed to a tomoato can. I also think he could step into a Arreola fight right now to.

Most important thing however is that he stays busy,

Would be a great matchup and a very exciting fight I think Arreola's youthfulness would win it for him on points after a gruelling war. It definetly wouldnt be 1-sided though :box:
