brilliant stuff. ''insider'' columns like that in newspapers are exactly what is needed to get people interested in the sport.

Anyone else bored of the constant references to Eubank-Benn??

Good work Joe. Enjoyed the read.
Could we have some recipes in there for next time? Maybe relationship advice?

I agree - sick to death of Amir Khan!!Autobarn wrote:Get in there, Joe. Good idea to address those daft comments from Amir Khan.
You can bet Team Khan will not have the b*llocks to take on Team Murray!!!
Its the fight above any other I want to see - seriously!!! - getting this fight on is like the days of when us lot used to argue about Farnell v Alexander and then Hatton v Witter.
I seriously want to see John Murray in with Khan and absolutely box his head off and give him the boxing lesson I feel he and his team deserve.
Incidentally - Would it be if Khan getting beat is one of the final nails in the boxing coffin of a certain promoter - who on earth would he have as a major headliner without him!!!

shame to see they spout total bollocks like the rest of us:
'A Khan-Murray fight is the one the British public are dying to see and I was always under the impression that Amir wanted it too.'
spud. you're making out like Murray and Khan are in the same divisions
they are not. what has murray done at 140lbs? what has he done beyond british level?
nothing. let him beat a Kotelnik or katsidis. then he's 'earned' his shot.
and as far as the 'british public' goes, gallagher must have taken his british public sample size from 100 boxrec anoraks
anyone else ever notice, just about every time someone uses the phrase 'the british public' (the BNP?), they normally actually mean 'my own social niche which i am conveniently trying to turn into some national consensus
its disingenuous and unworthy of Joe G, IMO.
do a straw poll in the Sun, how many have heard of Murray. 10%? 20% even? the feckin 'british public' indeed.
Re: Gallagher Boxing Column
Joe has every right to address the Khan situation after that drivel from Amir.
Is there anything more disingenuous than saying, "I'm leaving Britain because John Murray called me out (not that I was ever thinking of leaving before that, not that I'm leaving due to a mixture of economic reasons and the fact that I was shocked when all those Brits booed me on stage) and because Carl Froch doesn't like me"?
Joe can talk about a Khan fight, because Khan and Roach have been quoted, or have been on video, talking about a Murray fight, which Warren then poo pooed.
Joe does hint at what could happen if/when Murray beats a Katsidis. Read between the lines, no need to get agitated, eh?

Re: Gallagher Boxing Column
Good on Joe! It was a bit silly of Khan to say “we are in completely different weight catergories” errm, well you are only 5 pounds apart and you’ve only fought at 140 once (or twice if you include that Drakzline fight). Completely different would suggest Murray was a featherweight or something.
Murray needs to hijack a world title soon or at least fight a name that will create some buzz about a challenge to Khan.

did amir say,
"gairy st clair? no thanks, completely different weight category" (st clair then gets stopped by jackson asiku at 126 or 130!)
"barrera? completely different weight category. don't talk silly!"
"willie limond? totally different weight category."
"michael gomez? completely different weight category."
haha
talking of weight categories shows murray in a good light. murray is clearly a big lightweight, and he has fought fellow big lightweights, lightweights who have done things up at light welter or been strong at light welter: thaxton, hickman, mcallister. meager may have been a small lightweight, but he hadn't come up from super feather, which has often been the case with khan's challengers before the world title.

Its always good to see people come on the forum to say let John Murray earn his shot!!
If Amir Khan thinks its an easy fight then he will take him on wont he?
The fight has "money" written all over it and as such you would think the whole of Team Khan will be on this one!!!
And lets not spout the different weight differences as some form of unsolvable problem - the bigger the weight the better Murray gets in my view!!!
It will be good to see Murray smash Khan all over the shop - then perhaps Khan will get his wish of buggering off to America sooner than he thinks where he will be able to get away with fighting unknown "club fighters".

And you will also know that it is a FACT that both Joe Gallagher and John Murray have both gone on record that they have wanted for sometime for Murray to be more active and in real fights!!!sweetscience wrote:Khan opposition has been a hell of alot better than Murrays - thats a fact

Yes Khan has faced a better class of opposition does that necessarily mean he is the better man?
I think there is no doubt Murray will have to take shots on the way in to getting off his own work - but Khan is hardly reliable in the whiskers department is he?
And whilst you go on about Khan has faced better opposition - he has also been put on his arse by domestic class opponents too and to add to that been in a whole heap of sh*t against a non puncher who would not have even put a dent in Murray and lets face Bredis Prescott - hardly set the world on light since his complete and utter demolition of Khan has he?
Whilst I agree there are positives concerning Amir Khan it would take a fool to only focus on those - I feel there is still a lot more negatives although I concede he has done very well but I put a lot of that credit down to a very good matchmaker indeed and a promoter who has done a very very good job indeed with the bolton man.

Re: Gallagher Boxing Column
amir khan = flashy olympian with whole establishment behind him (sky, wazza) and tassles on his shoes. got every advantage every time and yet still gave loads of immature, overanxious showings. after getting annihilated, the money was STILL there, even more of it, to get him training with roach in the best gym in the world. after 3 fights the results started showing, in world title fight, a fight he got despite having no eliminator, despite never fighting at 140, a fight snatched from under the nose of GBP.sweetscience wrote:Khan opposition has been a hell of alot better than Murrays - thats a fact

john murray = underrated pro, learned steadily on the job, matured early, was allowed to go stale - 2 bad performances v munguia and hamidi - then headlined 4x and stopped all his opponents, all of whom were Euro top 10. delivered when given chance and is now the main fighter in the thriving gallagher gym.
it's not the same. murray matured before khan (i.e. the hickman fight, maybe earlier) yet khan was getting the title fights because he is simply a much bigger investment. there was allegedly a chance to get murray vs prescott, but obviously the money never came up - surprise, surprise. would you say there was perhaps more financial muscle behind khan?
i would also ask based on the final product (if this is the best he can get). if khan is fighting in big arenas yet failing to fill them (there are arguments both ways) and not exactly featuring in PPV blockbusters, you have to wonder about waste, you have to worry what will happen. khan can be succesful, but is that enough, after all that has been invested? successful, but not remotely exciting: a guy who has worked his amateur style to box flashily and safely...on the other hand you have to think john murray has probably been a bit of a bargain.

Re: Gallagher Boxing Column
i bet Murray doesent appreciate being "a bargain".I was talking to a friend of Murray's(so he said) at the Khan-Kotelnik bout, and he said John was really struggling financially and had even thought of getting a day job.I think i had read something similar elsewhere too.I agree,John is in great form, and is good value, but he shouldnt get to distracted(jealous?) by Khan. This has happened to Hennessy fighters before,Witter and Froch, and the HS PRESS dont seem to win Tyson Fury many friends either.I believe if Murray just carries on as he is,and forgets about Khan,he has some great nights ahead of him(dont know about world domination though 'barn!)Autobarn wrote:amir khan = flashy olympian with whole establishment behind him (sky, wazza) and tassles on his shoes. got every advantage every time and yet still gave loads of immature, overanxious showings. after getting annihilated, the money was STILL there, even more of it, to get him training with roach in the best gym in the world. after 3 fights the results started showing, in world title fight, a fight he got despite having no eliminator, despite never fighting at 140, a fight snatched from under the nose of GBP.sweetscience wrote:Khan opposition has been a hell of alot better than Murrays - thats a fact

'the british public are dying to see Khan - Murray'
you tell me- what % of the british public have heard of john murray?
seeing as we get on alright i am glad i can say, you sometimes talk utter equivocating bollox, without fear of lasting rancour between us.
edit: oh jesus and you're giving it the 'under-rated brit pressure fighter vs flashy olympian' dichotomy again. enough with that already, surely?
