He's obviously on a % of the PPV numbers, as no way would he be doing all this PR otherwise.

He must know all these press interviews and PR so near to the fight are a bad idea, when he should be getting his head around the massive task he's facing in a week's time.
He said the other day, he's usually isoloated in the peace and quiet of Cyprus around this time - so obviously he thinks that's the perfect way to get ready for a big fight.
And yet here he is, training in a central london hotel and giving it the big sell for Sky there last few weeks.
Makes me wonder if he's just cashing in his chips here, he hasn't sounded his usual confident self in the lead up either...

did Haye just reveal a strategy.....I don't want to get that close to him??...i know he was on about the chest hair stinking etc...Surely he has to get close.

....good grief he's talking about nuts berries and pulses....

that smug tw*t from Men Behaving Badly (not Clunes)...is bigging him up big style, really getting right into his nuts and saying the fight's in the bag already. T*sser!

If he can win that title, there is no telling how big he can become, they will love him in the states, especially as they dont really have a standout HW, the worlds his oyster.

:o :o So, in a roundabout way, you're actually criticising a British boxer for actively trying to rise his own profile and that of the sport? Wow. I'm gobsmacked.

Whisper it quietly...this is actually what happens in other sports. You know, popular, thriving sports. This is what their 'stars' and the promoters do. They publicise events. They do PR. They try to appeal to new audiences and the young.

I know, I know, it's a difficult concept to grasp for 76 year old boxing fans, but this is sport in 2009.

Appearances on the Steve Bunce Boxing Hour may give us losers a raging hard-on, but it ain't helping the PPV numbers or the wider profile of the sport.

Yeah, of course it's true what you say, the publicity Haye is generating right now is like gold, no doubt about that. Sky must be thinking this guy is a publicist's wet dream, where's he been all our lives??

I'm just surprised they didn't tape all the PR stuff weeks in advance, leaving him to do his usual training routine.
With a top PR guy planting bizzare stories in the press, while Haye gets ready to plant one of Valuev's chin.
I know they'll say no problem now, we can fit it all in, but you can guarantee it'll be number one excuse if he loses.

Good post.

I feel a few people on this board are getting a bit negitive about Hayes chances. I am confident that Haye will put the big fella on his arse for the first time ever, that Haye will just have too much for him, that this fight will not trouble the 10th round.

I fully expect and predict a Haye KO, nothing less.

Valuev is not a great technical boxer, he likes to nullify his opponent, he will not get away with that gameplan against Haye.

Really looking forward to this fight now. Crap that I'll have to watch it on a stream unless anyone knows anything about ordering in South Korea? Anyway I'm taking Haye by late stoppage. Doubt he gets the KO but I've a feeling he'll attack the body and Valuev stays on his stool rnds10-11.

That being said the odds for Valuev by stoppage look quite tasty so I might put a can't lose type bet on. If I win I get the money if I lose Britain has a heavyweight world champion and there might be some life left yet in the heavyweight division.

As for the PR stuff, he obviously knows what he is doing. I'd like him to be locked away in the gym but I guess he feels he has the time. My guess is all the shows he's appearing on are based in London so it shouldn't be eating into his time that much.

Of course he is selling the fight cos he is on the % of the pay per view.

Nothing wrong with that - just trying to maximise his earnings for the fight.

But maybe all these chat shows so near to a fight will soften the mentality a bit.

I dont think it will effect him physically.

But mentally - he should be in a more focused place now and maybe should be out in Cyprus and fly straight ot Germany rather than making fun of a cardboard cut out with Paul O grady in a TV Lounge in London.

Cos in a weeks time - he go to do it for real

the man is a professional, he knows what he is doing. If he thought it would affect his chances, then he would even think about going on chat shows.
I Think haye will ko valuev around r10 - r11.

I hope so, got a tenner on Haye between rounds 4-6 @ 7/1.

I am really looking forward to this now. Come on The Hayemaker!!

I like David Haye a lot - top man and looks after his staff and his fans - I want him to win big time - I just dont think he will - David in my view is going to have to take shots on his way inside "Lurch's" reach and therein lies the problem - taking shots from a bloke who has a massive weight advantage.

I will state again I want him to win it will be bloody brilliant if he does - lets hope he can upset the odds.

I agree MW - this close to his biggest fight of his life he shouldn't be cosing up on a sofa with Payl O'Grady and the like: he should be in a dark, dank gym somewhere filling himself with hate..

Publicity is good and necessary to sell the fight but right now he should be surrounded by his camp, knocking back interview requests and focusing on those 36 minutes in Nuremberg.
