Scourge of Don King dies...

Post by bennie »

Jack Newfield, the New York journalist who wrote the brilliant "Only in America, The Life and Crimes of Don King", passed away on Monday aged 66.
He had been suffering from cancer.
In his book, Newfield confirmed to the world what everyone suspected about King - that the smirking promoter was vile.
King stomped a man to death in broad daylight in Cleveland, Ohio over a small debt.
The man died gurgling the words, "Don, I'll pay you the money."

Newfield's book is possibly the best work I've read on the business of the fight game.

A fantastic work and one that should be staple reading for all those who are prepared to laud King and even have their photos taken with him as if he's some admirable celebrity.

King hated Newfield...because the man had his number.

RIP.

Hmm must get it as a little pre-christmas pressie to myself. My boxing Library needs some new additions.
