Class TV
Yes, I agree.stujones wrote:The Boxer - Daniel Day Lewis.
Barry McGuigan, who helped Lewis out in training for the film, said that he would have been a decent proffesional even in his mid 30's. He said British title level at the very least had he been younger doing the training.
This film is total class.

I interviewed McGuigan not long after the film came out and he said he was amazed at the dedication Daniel showed. He said he'd take him to the Fitzroy Lodge and he'd be getting bashed up by the amateurs and Barry would say "Daniel you don't have to do this". He said Lewis would not give up and had to do it "to know what it's like to be a fighter – to see what they go through." Fair play to the man. Thing is, he probably earned more to do that part than most British title level fighters earn in that career, so it was probably worth it.

It's a superb film. I didn't watch it, but have seen it plenty of times before.
I'll tell you what, I think that Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the best actor out there at the moment, certainly from these shores anyway. He should have picked up his second oscar a lot earlier for In the name of the father, he was just outstanding in an outstanding film.

I think the Pro fighters that are normally recruited to 'train' actors who portray boxers are actually paid to claim their protege could have been a champ.stujones wrote:The Boxer - Daniel Day Lewis.

I remember reading the same thing someone or other said about Stallone and some other film called 'Gladiators'.
