Why has Brian Magee not fought this year?

Post by Horse »

Is he injured?

Is he just waiting to fight the winner of Quigley vs Smith?

Who is the Super Middleweight Commonwealth champion?

Couldn't he have fought for that?

Well, the announcer after the Smith Quigley fight said allegedly had said there will be a rematch- which freezes Magee out a bit.

Can a promotor make the decision to have a rematch for the British title? I suppose so.

It was never likely that Smith would make a voluntary defence against Magee.

The BBBofC will have to make Magee the mandatory challenger before he gets a shot at Smith, in my opinion.

Magee is too busy, schooled and aggressive for Smith & Quig.

Smith does carry power and Magee is chinny, but generally he gets up.

I agree Warren will want to keep Magee as far away from Smith as possible, he would stop him like he did Maguire (who imo is better than Smith), but the board should now step in and make Magee v Smith happen.

I think his power is very over rated, I cant see him having the power to stop Magee or even put him down, I mean he hit Quigley a good few times and had no impact but Cleverly who cant punch shit put Quigley away with a body shot.

Quigley took the cleverly fight short notice and had no buisness being in the ring having lost someone close to him can't rememer the exact details so you can discount the cleverly stoppage he's a very strong fighter with a great chin could do middle easily and could probably even do light middle

Smigga is a lot better than he showed I think he's gonna grow as a champion and win the belt outright bigger and better things to come from smigga

against Froch he might get up.But against a genuine puncher he would be in trouble. How many times did he have Robin Ried over? Before you start,i am well aware of the fact Froch stopped a shot Reid

You think Smith is a bigger or more effective hitter than Froch?

Which Super Middleweights do you think are genuine punchers?

I think the problem is that we've all heard this so many times before now that it's turning into the 'boy who cried wolf' syndrome.
The reality is that Smith has consistently under-performed on a number of occasions now and consequently people can't be blamed for doubting whether he actually has what it takes and are instead believing that he's found his level.

Exactly, Smith needs to deliver on these promises now. Last time we heard he was going to hit the heights he ended up fighting for the WBU International belt. At least the British strap is a push in the right direction.
