According to the Manchester press, Wayne Alexander defends his WBU light-middleweight title against unbeaten but untested Thomas McDonagh on the big Joe Calzaghe bill in Manchester on Feb 19.
Amir Khan also appears on the groundbreaking show.

Good fight that one,

What would happen to McDonaugh's mandatory position (for the British belt) should he win the WBU world title?

Also, speaking of fights in the fairly distant future I was looking at the Maxboxing.com fight schedules (best on the net, IMO). It seems that Stephen Foster Jnr is scheduled to face John Simpson in March. That would be a good one, strange to see prospects mixing it at such an early stage. Can anyone else see this fight not taking place?

Alexander wins by KO for me, never been that impressed with McDonagh.

Man against boy stuff really, but you never know. Alexander doesn't like movers and McDonagh's a nippy sort who could mess him around. His punching power is improving enough to get Wayne's respect though and his left hook to the body could cause Wayne problems. Despite his wonder punch against Takaloo, I still think Wayne's gone and nothing he showed against Delroy Mellis the second time round made me think different. He looked awful.

I enjoyed the Alexander-Mellis bout, and also thought Wayne boxed well but didn't think he worked the jab as well as he thought he did in the post fight interview.

It was something of a novelty seeing Alexander doing ten rounds for the first time in his career and that won't do him any harm.

Wayne's always there to be taken out, but in return, Wayne's always there to do the same to whoever is in front of him.

Really dont think Wayne is as far gone as most people think. He has always looked a little ragged at times and vulnerable but thats just the way he fights.

I guess we'll find out what McDonagh is made of in this fight I have a feeling he'll get nailed and knocked out and the single mum chav brigade who follow him can all go home crying.

I like McDonagh. Very crafty and under-rated because of how he used to be a few years back. I'll take any sort of odds-against on the "Storm Boy" if the fight comes off.

wayne mentioned this to me last week and told me not to tell anyone, now its in the press already

McDonagh is a good mover and could really frustrate Wayne.... however he has been dropped twice by Tomas Da Silva, so if/When Wayne connects its will be over....
