Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
I post mainly in boxing scene but i like to mix it up if one site is slow or whatever.
Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
I like Andy Lee. Good boxer, some power, nice style. But he is vulnerable. Someone like Pavlik would smash him to bits. If Lee can avoid the big punchers, I think he's got what it takes to pick up a title, provided he keeps improving.

Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
Every single boxer on this planet is vulnerable not just andy lee, and i wouldnt judge andy on his fight with vera he was clearly to green for the likes of vera and was rushed by manny steward who should be ashamed of himself for the things he said about andy, to put that much pressure on a young fighter is just stupid..... Watch the older wiser andy catch up very quick next year...
Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
You know what I mean, I'm sure. It wasn't just in the Brian Vera fight, but also against Willie Gibbs, that Lee looked vulnerable. I don't think any of the guys he's fought since then have much power.Barry big balz wrote:Every single boxer on this planet is vulnerable not just andy lee, and i wouldnt judge andy on his fight with vera he was clearly to green for the likes of vera and was rushed by manny steward who should be ashamed of himself for the things he said about andy, to put that much pressure on a young fighter is just stupid..... Andy gets hit to much yea, but his chin is top class, gibbs hit him on the button a couple of times and didnt wobble andy at all and gibbs had a mean right hand power. in andys last fight against shuler andy finished the fight without a mark on him so he did pretty good. i will wait until after his next fight against a ranked opponent to pass judgement on andys development. ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

Limerick is a fair trek but I'll be there.
The last Limerick card.

ive also heard stephen haughian might be on it and i would also imagine gary o'sullivan and michale sweeney might make an appearance
jamie power is fighting john waldron for the irish light heavyweight title.... mike sweeney cant make d weight so its ther for the taking.. jamie lost to the storm at a catchweight he was a stone heavier.. willie casey is fighting on 24th of october aswell wit waldron fighting on d same card so if they fight again in nov 14th id say its mickey mouse fighters ther up against...

it says on boxrec that power and sweeny weighed the same only a pound in the difference
anyway sweeney would box the ears off both he is a class act

thanks for that info. didn't know macklin was big in ireland - though perhaps i should have cottoned on if peters is taking him back to ireland. hopefully a lee fight happens. hopefully a cracking fight and both make good money. just get the impression that lee is letting macklin do all the meaningful work. maybe lee's opponent will b e tough - hopefully so.sligobhoy67 wrote:Bet they dont - not when one of our own holds the really thing.Autobarn wrote:yeah but at least macklin has taken a direct route in his career. he did it losing a thrilling fight to jamie moore, and after regrouping, he went on to win some meaningful fights.
the opponents that lee faces, incl brian vera who beat him, just don't mean a heck of a lot. for a lad of his talent he should be doing better. is he waiting for macklin to risk his EBU title against him?
bet the irish commentators talk about the lee fight as a European title fight (provided it officially will be for EU whatsit belt).
Macklin is extremely popular in Ireland and very well known and even RTE are well aware of what title he holds and will want to build up this fight as Lee's step toward a showdown with Macklin.
Macklin is associated with Tipperary and Lee with Limerick - to bitter rivals in Hurling and this is where that angle will develop imo.
macklin is interesting. sometimes he's a "manchester mexican", hatton style (see the moore fight). sometimes he's a "popular irishman". and his fight with elcock went down well in birmingham, west midlands - as a local derby. macklin seems to blend in and fit in wherever he fights.

Sweeney, Waldron, Power, Long, Fitzgerald are all sort of around the same weights so it's good to see the promoters putting them in with one another. Haughian is off the McCloskey undercard in Derry so may feature in Limerick.

Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
Macklin has had his fair share of crap opposition and bad performances. Matt looked good beating up on geriatrics but he has yet to be tested properly I reckon. You could argue that Macklin got both Elcock and Asikainen at a good time, it's not like either were even the best in Britain or Europe at the weight when Macklin fought them. Darren Barker is better than both in my opinion and would have been a much harder test for him. Saying that Lee is letting Macklin do all the meaningful work is a strange comment. When Macklin fought Elcock did he let him do all the meaningful work? Elcock did have the title after allAutobarn wrote:thanks for that info. didn't know macklin was big in ireland - though perhaps i should have cottoned on if peters is taking him back to ireland. hopefully a lee fight happens. hopefully a cracking fight and both make good money. just get the impression that lee is letting macklin do all the meaningful work. maybe lee's opponent will b e tough - hopefully so.sligobhoy67 wrote:Bet they dont - not when one of our own holds the really thing.Autobarn wrote:yeah but at least macklin has taken a direct route in his career. he did it losing a thrilling fight to jamie moore, and after regrouping, he went on to win some meaningful fights.

Ajetovic is a quality fighter, albeit one who performs below his 'true' capability on occasion. Don't think he belongs in that list to be honest.sligobhoy67 wrote: Yes Macklin is moving along "now" - but after his fight with Moore he faced luminaries such as Anatoliy Udalov, Darren Rhodes, Francis Cheka and Geard Ajetovic!

His stoppage of Pat Maxwell had a lot of people on here purring, especially as Maxwell was regarded as a real dangerman at the time. While the stoppage over Vegas in the subsequent fight also looks impressive given Vegas had put Cleverley through such a stern test in the fight prior to that.sligobhoy67 wrote:decent amatuer but has never (that I have seen or read) every performed as a professionalDeserter wrote:Ajetovic is a quality fighter, albeit one who performs below his 'true' capability on occasion. Don't get me wrong, Ajetovic has never fulfilled his hype (I remember 'Get in the Ring' regarding him as one of the brightest prospects on the scene when he was about 6 and 0), but I just don't believe he belongs in the bracket you're putting him in. He represented a decent opponent, particularly as he was effectively a 'tune-up' for the Elcock challenge.

On another note I cant believe Peters has put this on the same night as the Ireland-France playoff, I got tickets for the match but now I'll be missing the boxing, might get to see the last few rounds in a pub if it goes the distance and if I can scamper out of Croker fast enough. I'll be home in time for Pacman-Cotto though!
Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
I think he's doing a big screen job like when the Ireland rugby was on the same night as Dunne-Cordoba.
Re: Andy Lee v Affif Belghecham
Ya peters announced yesterday that there will be a big screen showin da ireland France match!
