The fact none of you remember Buncey like that shows you have only been around five minutes. That is actually a tidy version of Bunces famous Keegan mop and how most people in the game remember him.

The hairs gone but the suit remains!

Back on topic, I really enjoyed that docu, Nigel is a character and an inspirational 1, what a warrior and champion. The only thing was people still kept asking the same question 'why do you box' 'because of the money/opportunities', 'but why do you box' for the 10th time gets annoying.

I watched this after, which is a great little Benn docu

incidentally i don't think the title of this thread is entirely appropriate given Mr Benn's religious leanings

C'mon mate, use a bit of sense. This is almost as bad as the bloke who asked Benn why he came into the ring with the Union Jack.

I was thinking the same thing, the question about race made me wonder, did white fighters in the late 80's early 90's really make so much more than their black counterparts? I don't remember much about the politics in boxing back then.
I think Benn exagerates it, with the level of excitement from his fights he was always in demand and he was a house fighter pretty much and got big paydays quite early to my knowledge. But if he had been white he possibly would have been more popular. Hes twice the fighter Ricky Hatton is for me whos seemingly become more popular and had a larger following. If someone was going to complain about not getting opportunities it should be HErol Graham, not Benn

Do you know what the devils advocate is? That's exactly what he was in the discussion.

devil's advocate is someone who puts forward a view he does not necessarily agree with for the sake of argument.

if you watch the clip you will hear Darcus Howe saying HE is the devil's advocate (it was after all his show), and he is putting forward the view that boxing is a barbaric sport. Nigel Benn was there for the defence.

check out the clip. the tv programme was called the Devil's Advocate, and a cursory glance will reveal that it is not concerned with the administration of the catholic church. But yes we have veered a distance from the topic, and i will even agree that flogging a dead horse is the correct idiom.
