Scott Harrison to fight Victor Polo on January 28!

I think this will be a hard fight for Harrison. Polo has beaten good fighters like William Abelyan (TKO1) Fernando "Bobby Boy" Velárdez (UD6) and Angel Vazquez (UD12) Vazquez was an undefeated 21-0 prospect when Polo beat him, so that win is pretty impressive IMO. Many people also felt that Polo was robbed in his defeats against Manuel Medina, Julio Pablo Chacon, and Derrick Gainer.

He's also tall and has the awkward southpaw style that could give Harrison many problems, so i would say this is a good fight, better than Frankie Archuleta who Harrison was supposed to fight.

Yes, i think this is a good fight. In-jin Chi is fighting the unknown Australian Tommy Brown in his next fight, Marquez and Pacquiao are fighting each other on February, and Rocky Juarez looks set to meet Humberto Soto in his next fight, in a WBC world title eliminator.

So i dont think this is a bad fight. And i certainly don't think Polo will come to lay down.

Juarez-Soto seems line an interesting fight, Juarez needs a good performance after the Raheem fiasco although that was not entirely his fault i suppose. Harrison-Polo sounds better than Archuleta though.

I see some people moaning about the Harrison-Polo fight on another website, but they have to understand that all the other top Featherweights are tied up in other fights..i'm not making excuses, but it's true, and Polo isn't exactly Preist Smalls either.

Well this is a bit of welcome news...

It's easy to be hard on our own fighters somtimes, the problem is that they don't get in with the really top opponents often enough any more, so when they are in keep busy fights it grates.

Polo is an old, faded fighter but the WBO have him at No. 1 so we can't complain.

I know there are not many fighters Scott can pick at the moment, but to be fair there is nothing Scott can do, but to defend his title against who the WBO see as number one.

All I have seen of Polo, was his fight against Chacon and to be honest it was one of the most boring title fights I have seen. Polo did nothing to impress me.

A domestic fight with Nicky Cook would gather UK interest and its a fight that would be more entertaining. I wonder if Cook would have taken the shot. I'm sure he would.

I think Cook would have took the fight, but his camp said he was to inexperienced to fight Harrison right now. I never seen Polo's fight with Medina, but i seen his fights with Chacon and Gainer and both decisions were booed by the fans, and Gainer was fighting in his home town too!

So is he no longer in 'mint' condition?

Cooks team Im sure are looking to ride on the European title for a while, rather than risk Cook in with the likes of Harrison at this stage. I think it would be a good fight, but more for Harrison.

Polo is very boring and I think there has been a decline in Harrisons crowd pull in Scotland this past few fights. I think the Polo fight is not the type of fight they need at the moment. After the last stink out, a boring contest is not what they need. Looking through the rankings, there is not a lot out there apart from the top crop.

It would be better for Harrison to try and take him out in 3-5 rounds and for him to make the fight exciting, rather than Polo put the crowd to sleep over twelve.

I want to go back to Glasgow for a Harrison fight sometime, I was over from Belfast at the McCullough fight, but there is no way I'd part with my money to see the Polo match :TU:

He hasn't lost a fight since Julio Pablo Chacon beat him, and as i have already said, many thought he won that fight. I know Polo hasn't been beating good fighters since the Chacon fight, but i see no real evidence on his record that he is shot either.

This will be the 27th pro bout of Scott Harrison's career and IMO he's fighting a good fighter, regardless if Polo is 34 years old. Ricky Hatton beat a 39 year old Vince Phillips in his 32nd pro fight and got the credit he deserved for what was a very good win at the time.

I have a feeling this fight will go the distance. Polo is boring, but hes VERY awkward and effective, and Scott doesnt like fighting those slippery Southpaws..i think he would be happy to have a brawl any day of the week :)

I was glad when i read harrison would be fighting Polo though, because i was reading a review on Archuletas last fight against Perez yesterday and he didnt sound as though he would give Harrison many problems.

Could be competitive if he replicates some of the work which Estrada did against Scott.

I'm just worried about the lack of notice Polo has got. Scott would have already been in training, but Polo has only got four weeks preparation before flying to Scotland from Colombia in the middle of winter. Also only three fights in two years for Polo...I would be suprised if Scott doesn't flatten him.

I agree, and you would have to say Polo is a better fighter than Estrada..

Tempted to go to this one, but why does it have to be Braehead again? Will be interesting to see what attendance is like.

Yes the night Alexander bounced Pizzmiglio all around the ring.

I also have to say it shows that Maloney and his team have alot of faith in Scott's abilities. I would believe that Harrison is actually giving away height and reach here, he only got just over 4 weeks to train specifically for Polo, who is a different proposition to Kebede.

That is very confident, I would say Polo (on paper at least) is Harrison second most dangerous opponent since first winning the title, Medina being the most dangerous.

I'm looking forward to this, but can't help think is 4 weeks long enough to prepare for someone as accomplished as Polo. Mind you, this of course can be said of Polo with regard to Harrison.

I could well be very wrong here, it looks like Im out on my own so far with my thoughts on Polo

In all honesty, I really do not see how anyone is excited about this fight.

An on form, aggressive Harrison should break his way through Polo.

I guess I'll now be interested in this fight on the basis of how well, Harrison can beat him now.

As the contenders around featherweight may not be as strong as we would like them, a fight with WBO 122Ibs champion, Joan Guzman at featherweight would be great. Guzman is massive for 122 and I reckon he'd be very strong at Featherweight as he recently fought Joe Morales at Super Featherweight. The issue with Guzman being linked to Mr Warren before may hinder a fight between them happening, but it is one to wet the appetite if Harrison cannot lure any of the big guns from his weight.

From what I have seen I would prob favour Guzman to beat him so that one wont be happening. Not til Guzman has been KO'd a couple of times at the least.

Polo is not a great match, its a lot better than Archuleta though.

Decent news, I reckon. Much better than it could've been and barring a possible Brodie match (who's not ready to leap straight back in to Harrison's class IMO) who else were they going to match Scott with? Hopefully there'll be a big money fight in '05.
