Jeffries/degale or groves
Jeffries/degale or groves
which will go the furthest in the division and say why
Jeffries has some decent power and a good defence but he may struggle to make 168 in a few years and he's not made the limit yet
DeGale hasnt impressed me so muich hes solid and decent at everything - maybe its the fact hes an olympic gold that ive raised my expectations of him
Groves looks solid with a great defence and ghood footwork with decent power, he looks to be more suited to longer distances with his style

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
Because of being higher profile, having the gold medal and like it or not the promoter with the most experience at getting his fighters to the top of the rankings, I'll say Degale.
Also he looks to have adapted very well to the pro game. Not saying the others haven't, they clearly have, but I don't think they will get the brakes that Chunky will

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
it's nigh' on impossible to say really. Not seen much of either. Remember a docu' last year, hell it may even have been on the Beeb on a Sunday afternoon. It was around the time the Olympics were on and they had this 10 minute spot solely about Groves. It was something to do with the fact he was as good as Degale but couldn't go to the L'impics as well as Degale, just a bit of acknowledgement for him.
It left me thinking that he was very good and he came over real well too.
A few Fridays ago in Sunderland he looked very very calm and composed and got his job done. Jeffries went the full 6 that night. Jeffries looks a good puncher but maybe not as well rounded as Groves.
Interesting piece in my local rag The Northern Echo of all places last week. Degale had come out with all kindsof crap apparently saying Groves was bitter , not very good, going nowhere, unheard of, and had spent half his life in Degale's shadow. Whereas Groves basically said, "bollocks" and that he'd whup Degale anytime, probably in a World Title show down....along those lines anyway.

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
i went with groves he is a daouble ABA champ and has international fights but degale was picked ahead of him for the olympics so there isnt much between em
Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
it will be interesting finding out. Hell we need interest in this sport. I think Groves might be more of a Swiss Army Knife to Jeffries Wilko's 79p tin opener. The Wilko's tin opener is fine, and it gets the job done, but the Swiss Army Knife has a far greater array of tools at it's disposal. This said, who's to say Jeffries won't be one of these Froch types? Gets thumped a lot but is strong enough to go through his opponents.
I'd really need to see more tbh.

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
groves said he would ko degale in an interview and that degale went to middleweight to avoid him. thn degale replied in an interview saying "george groves ahhh the ugly ginger kid who lives in my shadow"NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:it's nigh' on impossible to say really. Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
I think there'll be more depth to Degale than the others.
Groves seems to be the better, 'instant' fit as a pro, while Degale may take a little longer to find his groove, I definitely think he's got the better base qualities.
Both of them are exactly where they need to be. Groves seems to be a natural fit with Booth and he's not hanging around, while Degale's being given the time he needs to transition, part and parcel of the Warren experience.
I don't think I've seen enough of Jeffries as a pro to form an opinion but what I have seen has left me slightly underwhelmed. Too early to say.
I'd like to see all of our olympians make it to the top, I don't think it's beyond any of them.

somebody actually voted for jeffries
not being hard on jeffries and it is stil early days.but degale and groves look a different class to jeffries.hopefully tony proves me wrong
Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
The way these boxers are matched up will make a lot of difference. DeGale will be given absolutely every opportunity to win and an easy shot at a World title if he wants it. I like Groves the most, so far. I think the guy who goes the furthest is the one who improves his defence the most.
Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
degale will have the better defence of the 2.but groves packs a bigger punch and is more excitingAsterix wrote:The way these boxers are matched up will make a lot of difference. So Groves will be a fan favourite and DeGale will achieve more. Maybe.gemmell wrote:degale will have the better defence of the 2.but groves packs a bigger punch and is more excitingAsterix wrote:The way these boxers are matched up will make a lot of difference. Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
I would go for Degale, just as he's got Frank behind him and he has already shown that he can adjust to different styles.
Jefferies will need to either change style/add power/change weight to progress or I don't think he will get past European level
I like Groves and he looks good at everything but don't think he will get the fights as fast as Degale will, I think he will have to really earn his titles.

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
Degale.
Without doubt imo.
Most talented out of the trio, I think he is showing signs of adapting well to the pro game and there isn't much issue with his chin(stood upto Sutherlands power many a time as an Am in their 7 or so fights)

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
DeGale or Groves for me both put there punches together very well, have very fast hands. Jeffries gets hit more than the other 2 but its still early, so far DeGale or Groves for me

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
Groves' raw potential swings it for me. His jab is world class already.
Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
Haha. Fair play to you Tony.
It must be hard to come on here and listen to a load of boxing nerds dismiss your level of ability compared to another couple of bowers who are also in the elite bracket for your level of experience in the UK.
You're doing exactly right taking it light heartedly, because at the end of the day, what do we know!! Only time will tell and as you say, a bit less pressure won't do you any harm!!
Keep working hard, you've already shown you've got the temprament, and good luck!!!

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
I went for Groves - simply on the evidence of his last fight.
He looks solid in all depts. And his strength and punch are only going to improve over the next couple years. Hopefully his chin is as well suited??
DeGale hasn`t stood out at all considering the team he has behind him doing the best they can to make him look a million dollars with the carefully hand picked opponents. He just doesn`t look tough enough for the pro`s yet, he seems like a guy perfectly suited to the modern amateur style.
Jefferies. I feel he has the punch to dismantle any of the two mentioned. But from the little I`ve seen of him he seems a bit one dimensional.

Re: Jeffries/degale or groves
Travis dickison is one to watch,Degale been well matched and will be for the next 15 fights going on wazzas track record,Wazza will have him matched so he looks a million dollars,Groves and jeffreys will have the harder fights,i no who is the most popular one when i went to the Rendall fight jeffreys by a mile.tonyevs wrote:I went for Groves - simply on the evidence of his last fight.
