Reluctance to score rounds a draw?

Has anyone noticed this?

Haye's fight is a good example- 12 rounds, three judges- out of the potential 36 round, not one round was given as a drawn round.

Some certainly should have been.

Are judges discouraged from scoring rounds as a draw nowadays?


I've noticed, however that is IS common to score rounds a draw in "prospect V journeymen" type fights, if it's a round that the journeyman looks to have won/dominated.

I think this has always been the case even back to the old days in the amateurs, when a level round is a bit of a last resort. When I score a fight I always make an effort to avoid giving level rounds

I always score even rounds. I think it is absurd that you should be forced to pick a winner in a feeling out round where neither man does more than the other. I don't think two rounds where one guy does virtually nothing but gets a 10-9 should cancel out a single dominant 10-9 round for his opponent.

My question is, if a round is even, why not score it even?

This is the trouble with boxing generally.

How do you measure feeling out nullifying rounds when there maybe a a few shots here and there that sways a judge one way or the other. One judge may like a front foot fighter and another like backfoot make 'em miss and counter boxer. In the extreme do we judge on weight of a few shots or the accumulation of pitter patter target shots?

I think this is a big problem in the sport.

It's a shame. I always try and score rounds as I see them, and that sometimes I might score anything upto 3 or 4 rounds 10-10 during a fight.

I dont give level rounds I always feel one fighter did just a bit more than the other
