Watt is the best commentator in the UK. He's also a very nice guy in person! I went to Scotland with my dad as a part of a work related event and he attended the same dinner as us. Got a picture and talked with him for 10 minutes when there was a whole room full of people trying to get to him.

Jim Watt predicted that Haye would come out all guns blazing and try abd take out Valuev in the 1st 4 rounds. Shocking that he thought he had to continue his bias because he had predicted Valuev before the fight. The 1st sign of a good commentator is 1 who can admit he was wrong, Sky need to look at Watt right from the off.

Watt always does this when a Brit fights abroad, he scores the fight as he thinks the away judges would rather than how the fight is going, it seems he is only interested in getting the same score card as the judges to look good IMO. See Lynes v Branco for another example.

Even though the rounds were close due to Haye's low workrate, it was pretty easy to score and I had it 8-4 just like 2 of the judges

He has probably forgotten more than you will ever know.

I watched it out here in Germany, where I live, and the German commentators, during the last couple of rounds, were talkin about how Valuev needed a KO to hold on to his title and were emphatically talking, at the end of the fight, about how Haye had clearly won the decision, before it was announced

I don't remember his exact card but he had Valuev up 86-85 through nine, and I believe he had Valuev winning five consecutive rounds from 3-7. Even the 6th which I thought was one of Haye's best rounds

People don't even know what his scorecard was but are complaining about it?

Im not sure if the people who are complaining know it or not. I know what is was up until the ninth, but I'm not complaining about it.

Got to agree - whilst I thought the fight was not a nice one to watch - for me the right man won the fight.

Didn't Watt score the fight 115-113 Valuev?

I think the end result was fair, Haye fought the only way he could. I admit he could have thrown more, he took a risk being that negative in Germany but he still won the fight. He landed the much better, cleaner shots throughout the fight, made Valuev look crude and miss by miles and hurt him in the 12th. The fight wasn't pretty but how can anyone look good against a guy like Valuev?

I think Jim Watt was of the belief Haye would need a stunning performance and a KO to win this fight. But on the flip side to that, such a performance would be a much bigger risk and could therefore lead to Haye running out of gas and Valuev catching up with him. I think Watts commentary reflected how heavily the odds were stacked against Haye to get a points win by stealing rounds, and I think he was as shocked as anyone when he turned out to be wrong.

The better, more talented man won on the night, the result is not just good for British boxing but Heavyweight boxing as a whole.

Watt is one of the best in the business and was only trying to give an objective view. Sometimes he gets it wrong but don't we all?

What a weird fight it was, hardly any decent exchanges, but I guess Haye just about got it, amazed he got the decision in Germany, but with three options on him the German promoters were probably pleased..

Pub I watched it in had a massive crowd turn up, but they obviously didn't get the type of spectacle they were hoping, it's wasn't pretty.

I recognised someone down the bar, couldn't work out who he was, then realised it was Michael Ayers, ex British champ, with his old mates from down the road in Acton. He still looks hard as nails, and still looks about 20 years old. Had a chat with him, and he didn't have much good to say about Haye, but then his style was never safety first was it.

Oh well, it's great DH has that title now, but do we really have to put up with John bloody Ruiz again??

Gotta agree with you. At certain stages last nite Ian Darke clearly took exception to Watts unrelenting ignorance and negativity.

Watt may well be supremely knowledgable but he is extremely inflexible. He makes his mind up against a fighter very early doors and then refuses to acknowledge any good that they do thereafter.

No probs with Watt but I find his strong accent a bit off putting. Nicky Piper pisses me off though, I wish they would drop him.

Watt was biased towards Haye and still gave it to Valuev ! And I agree !
Since when did landing on the arms count as scoring punches?
Terrible fight ! Valuev throwing and missing, Haye throwing less , landing less and running more !
Unless you watch Sky highlights of the same punch with different angles to make it look like more punches landed ! (they still only found 3!)
Watt gave it to Valuev by 2 rounds, I gave it by 4 and thats being kind to Haye !
The money men strike again as Haye will sell better in the USA.
Golden Bitch Promotions are very happy right now.

While it's true Jim can fix on a point early in the fight, then bang on about it a bit, all I can say is thank god we have Jim commentating over here, he might even be the best in the world at it, P4P #1.

I mean who else is there, imagine we had to up with the Duke McKenzies, the woodhalls, the Thaxtons of this world instead....all lightweights to the Scot, who's a heavyweight in his field.

Nelson and Piper are a waste of space, masters of the bleeding obvious. I have to turn the sound down when they're on.

Watt and Darke are just excellent value.

Given the lack of action in the fight, at least we never had to hear him say "and these are hurtful punches" which he seems to do every fight he commentates on.
