Thats right - I live in China where I teach English at a university.
I'm not being nosey I'm attempting to make a point. When was the last time you were in the area?
This september just gone - whats your point?
As for kids today not knowing about austwicz - I remember watching some daft documentary about uni students in Manchester and some girl was crying because these Jewish kids were giving her grief about not knowing anything about the holocaust, she kept saying 'I wasn't taught this subject at school in rural staffordshire' what was that programme called - shown around 1993 on BBC2... as well as my own personal discoverings on the subject talking to da kids. Lots did and lots didn't haven't have a clue.

Well I can only really speak of my education and the people I know, and they do know about it. I am quite surprised people don't know about it, it is a huge part of world war II which is a huge part of British history. I presumed the curriculum was nation wide and standardised, we learnt about it first in primary, she is older than me though maybe it wasn't part of it when she was in school, which I find odd. Did you learn about it in school?
Actually we weren't. At school I learnt (as did a lot of others I suspect) about the industrial revolution and the development of technology in our history lessons - boring as anything! But then again people my age all knew about the war from their dads and grandads and it was part of our youth anyway. We would make airfix model WW2 aeroplanes and we would read Sven Hassel books and commando comics - lots of people had decent knowledge about it from a young age. Things probably have changed now.
