Valuev post fight comments, anyone heard any?

Post by Wales »

Intrigued to hear what the big man thinks, and whether he'll carry on fighting. Has there been an interview posted anywhere?

Very humble. Says he thought the cards were out but no complaints, said he speed was the key and the last round.

Why? Wlad's fight with Chaggy, an dmost foes if we are honest, was equally as dull but in that one Wlad held the physical advantages, so by that criteria he should have done a better job than Haye did?

Both fights were dull, both fighters, Haye and Wlad, fought effective fights.
yep both came with a game plan that worked, in germany its not the excitment factor or how else would you explain thousands turning up for klitschko fights every time

the difference is that wlad is a humble guy.
haye has been shouting his mouth off about how bad the heavyweights are and that he is the man to shoot them all down with thunderbolts out of his harris.
he specifically had a pop at wlad with the silly ''beheading'' t-shirt.
i would think wlad probably found haye's safety-first, negative tactics amusing given how he had talked himself up.
were they great tactics? no. he hurt valuev in the last round when he actually punched him, could have done that in the first and saved us all the water torture.

Wlad systematically beat up without question the third best Heavy on the planet, you are getting too giddy over what Haye did

I think Lowersmith is thinking from a Wlad vs Haye perspectives. Haye struggled with the shear size of Valuev, to get inside, to get into power punching range, more than Ruiz (fight 1), Chagaev, and Holyfield did. Okay, Ruiz and Holyfield both faded but they fought "small". Haye didn't fight small very well, he didn't need to at the end of the day - but he's going to need to against a far quicker (legs and hands), sharper punching, athletic, younger, technically better boxer - who also holds a huge physical advantages.

Chagaev showed the blue print to beat Valuev WELL, Ruiz almost did it also. Its in and out, jabbing to the body and smoother him when you get to close. Haye won, but didn't follow the blue print. he was more out than in. Will that tactic win against Klitchsko - nope.

He will have to fight in and out against the Klitchsko. Try and back him up, try and get him to work at a pace he doesn't like. Indications suggest he cannot do it. Cause he has alwyas liked to fight tall, even against a guy a foot bigger than him.

He was definitely jabbing to the body at some stages - but define "frequently." Haye's punch output left something to be desired but he fought the right fight to get the win. That said, he also showed he had the ability to win the fight much more clearly than how he actually did. IMO He's still not got full confidence in his own stamina. I mean, for example, how many punches did Tua throw in his fight with Ibeachuchi? Compared to Haye's 10 punches a round. Get down to 230lbs and save us Tua, save us! :TU:

Haven't read Valuevs interview but how can he say he lost the fight on the last round? With Haye 4 up on two of the judges card he couldn't lose it on the last round. Best he could have done was get a SD defeat.

Exactly. There is a reason why this fight is close. Haye didn't do anything frequently.

I've not heard a single comment that Chagaev lost to Valuev.... that was the blueprint, not Haye. Ruiz was doing it, untill he gassed also. Haye didn't do enough to win the fight convincingly.

Now, bad hand and everything - can only say it was a fantastic performance with that considered. However, you don't score a fight with the past in mind, or injuries.

Maybe Haye will do a better job if there is a rematch. Frustrating thing is, if Haye did work to the body the amount Terry says he did - then I think he could have stopped the big man. Valuev winced after a body shot in the opener, why didn't he throw more.

As for the response bringing up the Mock fight, and that he's not Chagaev, Ruiz or Holyfield but a chinny cruiser. He aint a cruiser anymore, he has said on here that he can take a shot, and has said he learned lesson from the Thompson defeat. For the most part of this fight, he still fought like a tall Cruiserweight, who used his athletic ability to get out of the way from Valuev but didn't do much in return - thats why the fight is close. He fought a defensively sound and disciplined fight to last the distance and make Valuev look silly at times. Enough to win the fight, open to interpretation.

Sure, you adapt to the circumstances - sure if your a chinny fighter, you improve your defence, you learn to counter punch, etc. Like Khan is doing. You don't say "well, he's just a chinny fighter with no strength and no stamina, he did well to last the course and make Valuev look silly at times - I'll give him the fight". Cause unfortunately, its debatable if Haye did enough to outwork the big guy - and if he is struggling with the way the big guy fights.... then he's going to struggle more against Klitchsko.

Pre fight I thought Haye had a chance to be too quick for Vitali (who is limited) and have a punchers chance against Wlad. I still think he could clean KO Wlad - cause I think he hurt Valuev on two occasions (body in the opener, and in the 12th) in the very few occasions he actually threw something.

However, I think he would certainly be losing vs Wlad prior to landing a bomb, and I think Vitali wins BIG.

He didn't mean what the judges scored, just how he felt. Weird, but he was spot on for me as I had it even going in to the last.

A couple of very respected boxing writers at ringside apparently gave Haye EVERY round.

I actually like Valuev - not particularly as a boxer but he always acted with respect and made no complaints about the decision at all. I think he was shocked to have been rocking and a'rolling in the last session.

while the K2s are successful, they are arsehole businessmen. how many options can you impose on a blown up CRUISERWEIGHT, which haye really was at the time. they are cautious and they are ludicrous with their terms. they are diplomants almost more than they are fighters, though i rate vitali. HBO, the biggest paymasters in the sport, want fvck all to do with wlad. GBP CEO schaeffer was in germany for haye.

haye fought a defensive fight. ppl don't want defensive heavies. ok, enjoy the next one instead. strangely it's not ok for a smaller haye to be defensive, but wlad can be, vs smaller men?

It seems that the Valuev team were pretty accepting of the defeat

Alexander Zimin(Valuev's trainer) called the contest “a strange one”. He said: “There was a lot of running. David was very fast and he seemed to get even faster in the last six rounds. Nikolai did not do what we had trained for. His attacks were not executed well. I don´t really know what I can say about this fight – it was strange.”

Wilfried Sauerland(Valuev's Promoter) congratulated Haye on a strong performance. “It was a very tactical fight and David´s tactics prevailed. He was running around for 2:50 in every round and then landed two punches. He has obviously watched the Holyfield fight and learned from it. He deserved to win, it was a strong performance. But I have no doubts that Nikolai will bounce back.”

haha - this Internet malarkey - someone has to put a stop to it, and pull things back in the real world.

all this dirrell stuff is depressing and weird. haye's tactics worked, dirrell's didn't.

when he does something with his career, then come to his defense, i say.

that he can hop, skip, jump, fall over, hug, and run his way through every fight.

perhaps after the weigh in, we should have ignored the hype, and realised haye was going to box effectively (but sadly one handedly) on the move. then hand injury is an effing shame. this would explain why he didn't pelt the big man with right handers once he slid out of the corner.

haye's movement was fine, the way he got outside valuev's left jab.

Chagaev was way more in control against Valuev than Haye - he easily won the fight for me against Valuev - the cards might have been close, but I thought it was a very easy win.

Haye won against Valuev, but it was harldly a dominant display.

Wlad totally dominated Chagaev, at no point was Chagaev even vaguely in the fight - yes it was incredibly dull, Wlads fights always are.

Haye has done well to win away against Valuev, but I think we have to have some perspective here - did anyone come away thinking they had just seen the best heavyweight in the world grab his first belt.

Wlad and Vitali have a lot more than size on their side. Vitali especially is a mean SOB, who throws a hell of a lot more punches than Valuev, and won't be afraid to engage.

This is a stepping stone, nothing more, the hard work is yet to come.

Be interesting to see what Ruiz has to offer, he looked in surprisingly good shape, and was actually quite aggressive in his fight. Tough guy too.

I reckon Valuev will retire - as much as I think he nicked a close one - he looked absolutely terrible, no offensive output to speak of, no combinations, hardly any right hands and the jab looked very ponderous.

I was watching through some of Valuevs old fights a few days ago, and he has lost a lot of speed and zip on his punches, I think he's pretty much done now. He'll beat some guys just with size, but the blueprint has been established of how to beat him.

chagaev didn't knock him silly in the last round, as haye did. to be honest i scored both fights the same. haye and chag are different kinds of fighters, anyway. haye's movement was better, chag was stronger. chag ended up having a shit career, doing nothing of significance afterward (just as he did nothing of significance before that barring narrow win over ruiz). i think haye has had a better career, and will do more than chag did at heavyweight. also, chag wasn't a former slim 190-pounder.

There is a lot of antagonism towards the Klits, but I tend to ignore such posts, quite blinkered!!!

Wlad threw plenty against Chagaev and beat up a top line Heavy, a man who dismantled Valuev and actually stopped him! Haye threw two punches a round and put the world to sleep against a man who years previously had lost to Chagaev, and was also a lot better!

For gods sake, you would think that Haye was a Tyson clone according to some messages on here!!! Intelligent yes, but dont laud Haye as being a saviour and Wlad as killing the sport after that crap on Saturday!
