Jackson Asiku.... he's now an IBO world champion. Okay not the best of belts, but he beat the very decent Heriberto Ruiz in mexico to win the belt. Hope he can get in the mix at 126 - ita a classic devision without much going for it currently. Hope he gets a shot at the proper titlists.

He always, for my money, looked to be the best of that string of excellent fighters brought over at that period (Munyai, Olusegan etc).

Interesting to read he was sparring with Chris John... these two were scheduled to fight on a number of occasions.

At 31 Jackson can't be left waiting in the wings for a big fight, he did some training at Mayweathers last camp, so maybe a fight in america can happen next year.

Maybe Rocky Juarez will fancy a shot at picking up the IBO. Hes got alot of support and he may see the IBO as the perfect belt (no madatories, just pay days)

asiku is ace. i reckon he could be the best african boxer. and that includes agbeko and clottey. asiku just needs a chance to show it. at least with a fringe "world" title, he will get more work and get ppl gunning for him. ultimately it's a business and if it helps him make some money none of us should have any issue with that.

he wants gamboa, and i hope he gets it. hope he gets whatever big fight he can in the feather and super feather divisions. this IBO strap may improve his standing in other more reputable sanctioning bodies.

asiku stopped gairy st clair 2 fights ago. st clair beat a raw asiku in thrilling fight years ago, ocontroversially. st clair since went the distance with corrales, vivian harris, amir khan - big guys. asiku did well tos top him last time out.

would love to see him get the big fight, and i wouldn't put it past him to win. whether he lands the big one or not, i am really chuffed for this man, to have some success. he really is class.

when action jackson destroyed mckeever he looked world class, then we did not hear much at all for ages, what a waste of talent..and yes, he defo is the best african fighter at present...

Nothing personal, but I don't like the term "waste of talent" when referring to someone like Asiku.

Asiku, like Olusegan are dilligent trainers who would sign up to fight for a big fight now if they had the opportunity. What they are lacking is the opportunity. Its not their fault.

"waste of talent" should be referred to someone like George Best, or Hector Camacho Jnr (fighting as a fat Middleweight). They wasted their talent. Jackson and Ajose have never had the opportunity.

anyway, i'm sure we all feel bad that some promoter did not make more of this guy's career. he needs a don king, who could get him ranked, get him opportunity. obviously would have to win vs someone dangerous, and would likely only get one title fight per year, if that. and if he lost, hge'd be fuckedr but it's better than nothing.

yeah but for all we know he might have moved out of necessity, because no one seems able to get him decent opportunities. in britain, he couldn't get anyone to fight him after what he did to callaghan and mckeever. he has his fringe title, that can get him a bit of work, and trains with chris john - surely this can't do too much harm.

wow, that was a SAVAGE ko. a right uppercut that knocked ruiz on his back, just before the ref could step in. jackson is a beast. never seen a peak jackson in a long fight. he really took it to the mexican and sustained the pressure. i wish he could have had more fights like this and the st clair rematch. quality rounds, in other words, that prepare you for something better.

i think a weight drained nicky cook really hurt luevano to the body. although luevano paid him back with more and better of the same. i would love to see jackson get a chance, get a proper belt, land a big fight. quality african agbeko got there, and i reckon jackson - while less proven - can do similar.
