In the Robert Cohen/Chamroen Songkitrat records, you have the following note under the result: "The fighters fought barefoot in a driving rainstorm throughout the bout."
This is wrong.
The famous "barefoot in the rain" fight was Songkitrat's bout with Jimmy Carruthers on May 2, 1954, and NOT Chamroen's fight with Cohen later that year.
There WAS a heavy rainstorm on the afternoon of the Cohen versus Chamroen bout. However, the rain had stopped in time for the world title fight, according to the ringside report by Nat Fleischer in The Ring/Dec. 1954.
Here is what Fleischer wrote re. the rainstorm: "A special canopy had been placed over the Royal box and likewise over the ring but fortunately neither was needed for soon after the King arrived, it stopped raining and throughout the remainder of the evening the sky was clear."
However, most of those present had "already been drenched" by the earlier rainstorm, Fleischer noted.
Cohen and Chamroen definitely did not box barefoot in their contest.
Chamroen Songkitrat: wrong barefoot fight.
