Sykes won an eliminator not a final eliminator and it was over 10 not 12 rounds.
He has a winnable fight for the English title next, so he has not been frozen out

Agreed but it remains the case that Mitchell has not defended for 20 months.

Simple fact is that Sykes was told if he beat Crolla he got a shot at the British title and that hasn't materialised. He believed when he took the eliminator it was final. For someone to turn around and say 'but it wasn't a final eliminator' is nonsense. The board sell the idea of these eliminators to promoters and fighters by playing on the belief that by taking it they are lining themselves up for a shot at the title. If then they are told 'oh but you've now got to wait around and then fight someone else and then you might get that shot' then it makes the whole process of eliminators a mockery.

If they were not told that it was a final eliminator by the BBBofC, then I don't see how they can complain about it not being a final eliminator.

If he isn't then the BBBofC will lose a lot of credibility.

He's moving up so will vacate. big question is, will the Board mandate Burns' co-challenger (as they should) or let Fwank do it? if a promoter has already got rights to stage the title fight - ala Barker-Macklin becoming Barker-Elcock and McIntyre-Brook becoming Brook-Jones - they seem to pick the new opponent. if that happens dnt expect Sykes to be in the other corner

The board met yesterday when are the outcomes due? If Wazza promotes it will be Burns v Ohara I can see it. As other possible candiates Foster jnr and Matthews are with Hatton.

The Board did not discuss it as Mitchell has yet to give the belt up. i imagine the promoter will make an application 4 a vacant title fight at the same time as confirming Mitchell giving up the belt.
