i wonder if degale will ever even fight a defending world champion? (haye's fought 3 defending champs thus far, plus one future beltholder)

or will he get a vacant one passed on to him?

after all, he will be getting the gold medal treatment. obviously that will likely be very nice for him, but i prefer someone like haye who has done it as a bit of an outsider, without compromising to the big promoters (ok sauerland has a piece of him at the moment).

his debut - looking soft and pitty pat, an audley of the middle weight divisions. i know he will be successful, likely, just as aufdley is a failure. but in terms of personality and style, he is not my cup of tea, not at all.

this switching southpaw, even if he gets carefully moved to world titles, which he will, will probably never be exciting. do we really expect him to challenge himself as haye has? do we think he'll be in thrillers that match up to the mormeck, frago & thompson battles? will he score spectacular KOs at world level like haye's blowouts of gurov and macca? Will he win belts at 2 weights - would he be able to do it away from home? Will he fight any of his UK peers, like haye did with macca (in massive UK unification) and thompson? Will he win all his titles away from home - or will he win them in board rooms?

this is bollox. yes valuev is poor. but he is 300-pounds of poor. which is not so easy to fight.

ultimately, Degale is going for the crown of Britain's no1 metrosexual boxer. Haye stands in his way in the path to the top, on that front.

I don't mean this to sound too over the top, but if the Darren Sutherland episode teaches us anything it's that not all top young sportsmen are mentally ready for the pressures of celebrity and such a challenging sport. More experienced men like Haye shouldn't feel the need to talk down a prospect before he's even really begun his career, even if it is for some cheap publicity for his own fighter.

Degale is perfectly entitled to have a go back. I hope that cockiness will stand him in good stead, because he'll need it with all the stick he's likely to get if his career continues in the same vein. The poor guy is already talking about accepting that some people will hate him!

Yes this PR piece shows him up for what he is. Not the brightest, naïve, and VERY cocky, but let's not forget how young he is. He's a British Olympic Gold Medalist and I just can't understand the mentality of people on this site sometimes in terms of the lack of support he gets and the criticisms.

Yep good post - DeGale comes across as a bit of a plonker in the piece, but no big thing really. FW needs to get a new PR man sorted I think.....but DH did have a go at him previously, so we know why this has cropped up.

And the funny thing is, he probably would beat Valuev. The big lump was that useless....one punch a round should do it eh

chunky is 100% correct. haye took pops at chunky for absolutely no reason at all. chunky never did anything to him, the only thing he did was win a gold medal. haye publically said a lot of sh*t about chunky without reason. he made publicity for groves off chunkys back. chunky is right here, f*ck haye. can't wait to see wlad or vitali muller him, although he'll probably pull out before the fight is made.you wonder how he had a child at all with all the pulling out he does. well, statistically i guess the "pull out" method fails once in a while.
