Really? Not been overly impressed, aside from LIFE, the bbc 1 nature programme. Now dont get me wrong, I think the footy etc... is better quality, but i often catch myself 70mins into a game watching it on sky sports 1.

You need to change your TV settings to 1080i (or p).

Or you need to change the output settings of your PS3 to 1080i (or p) if you had it via a SCART before

Getting my HD box tomorrow. Will I need to change the settings on my TV? It is HD ready but that means bugger all to me.

Are you with Sky? If so, the fella who delivered it was nice enough to set everything up for us.

well im on Full HD on a 40'' TV...i had it before on a smaller HD Ready TV and sacked it off

the BBC Channel seems to give the best picture... its clearer than real life

Im more or less the same (42") its good, is it worth 120 extra a year .... probably not, but i was damned well not goingt o spend a grand on a tv then not use it to ist full capacity

Its irrelevent for sky they only broadcast at 720p so having 1080 i/p doesnt improve the picture. It will do on blue ray films, gaming etc though.

i think thats why i initially got it...but i defo wouldnt get rid of it now...i only really watch the HD section..mainly cause it gives a good selection of whats on TV without scrolling through 500 channels

Those of us who either needed a new TV or wanted an LCD were told two years back they were HD ready and that we thought was good enough. Nothing was said about 720p or 1080p and nobody explained about interlaced (i) or progressive (p) just that they could recieve HD TV. They also didnt tell you at Currys you would have to pay a lot extra to view HD channels as they became available. A lot of people have bought 720p TVs and now wish they had either known more or been advised better. I dont think everything is being broadcast in 1080p but 720p is a massive improvement on normal picture quality. Another thing you were not told is that the old cathode ray tube TVs have a better and stronger picture than LCD TVs. Both have 625 lines (normal TV) but the picture on an LCD is larger giving you poorer quality. HD to 720 p compensates for that giving you an excellent picture. I dont have a Blue Ray DVD player, but I do have an HD DVD player and HD DVDs are incredible and every bit as good as Blue Ray. I have it mainly for upscaling normal DVDs, which I am told makes them 4 x better, if they are full quality DVDs. The fact is they are so much better, whatever the difference is, I would never go back to a normal DVD player. Blue Ray players also upscale DVDs. I am told DVDs will not be available in 5 years from now, so buying a Blue Ray player and Blue Ray discs makes good sense. For many years TVs were only upgraded with minor changes but in more recent times the technology has moved just as fast as with computers and mobile phones.

POODLEPOO First of all you say you are working in digital media and know what you are talking about but most people dont and are confused about the technology. Currys is a leading retailer and its sales people are not experts. Most people who buy equipment from Currys or anywhere else for that matter are not experts either. I admit when I bought my LCD TV I knew nothing about 1080/720 i or p and very few people did a couple of years back. Its alright you comming on here being cocky and trying to pick my post apart with enjoyment, but some of what you say is opinion rather than fact. DVD is going to be phased out over the next five years as far as film releases are concerned. That doesnt mean it will become a dead format and I am aware VHS is still being used by some people. I dont think too many people realised HD would be a seperate system that you would have to pay a lot more for a couple of years ago which is why so many bought HD ready sets. I was told if I had an HD ready TV I would be able to recieve programs in HD, and there was no mention of having to have exrta equipment or having to pay more to recieve it. Yes people were mislead. I was told LCD was superior to plasma, whether this is true, not being an expert I dont know. LCDs do not have the same picture quality as the old sets without HD enhancement, I cant speak for plasma, I just dont know, and BTW I am not on drugs as you suggest. I do hate people who know a bit and think they know it all. What I have written is based on my own experiance (and others) and what I have been told, I am not an expert. At the end of the day keeping up with the technology changes is an expensive business and buying a TV is no longer a simple straightforward thing to do. Many people see a sale and think they are getting a bargain, whereas what they are buying is out of date and in a short time they may regret their purchase.
