The filipino fans I met after the first Pacman v Marquez fight were absolutely mental, and totally deluded. They believed that Pacman had won

"he pu' hi' dow' three time in da firs' round'" they said.

"Yes mate, but he lost the next eleven rounds" I replied.

They didn't look too impressed.
if you think Pac lost rounds 2-12, literally, perhaps you may benefit from watching it again?

Well he certainly lost rounds 3-12 - and the second was very close.

I aint sure why people are so against a Pac Man stoppage. This isn't Rocky Marciano he is up against. Cotto has been hit and hurt on several occasions. Its not just the Margarito fight, or "weight drained" against Torres. He's been hurt another 2 Welterweight title fights, he can be hurt and he can be hurt by smaller men.

Pacquiao might not have been "proven" puncher at 147. It doesn't mean to say he won't be.
I think Hatton made Pacquaio look more devasatating - remember, Pacman wasn't even able to drop Oscar, despite Oscar not even firing back at all and being horrifically weight drained.

Remember that it took him many rounds of punishment to stop Diaz also.

I think the Hatton fight should be taken with a pinch of salt.
How can we take such a fight with a pinch of salt. Some people thought Ricky's punch resistance wasn't as sharp as before - but he was hardly Herbie Hide.

It wasn't just the devastating KO. Manny hit and hurt Ricky on many occasions.... even when Ricky seemed to be getting sharp.
+

Hatton made the punches more effective by rushing straight forward into them. Cotto won't be doing that.

i can't say i think he did 'certainly' lose 3-12, not at all. that was said with a glibness i don't normally assocaite with you young james

from memory, lederman's card gave something like 6,7,8,9 to pacquiao, personally i thought he was calling at least a couple of those way off, but i agreed with at least one of those rounds and maybe 2 from memory. 6 7 8 9 certainly IMO fell into the kind of category where i could see neither fighter winning any of those rounds unanimously on all 3 cards.

Well the reason I am so assured about it, I actually scored that fight from ringside, and on my card I believe I gave Pacman round one and two (though I may have scored the second even), and I gave Marquez all the others. I thought Marquez controlled the fight from round 3 onward and Manny was never in it.

In fact yes, I did give manny the second.

So that's 10 rounds to Marquez.

To be honest, the judges can't have been far off that as Manny won the first 10-6 on two cards and was awarded the second also, so he would have been 5 points up with 10 rounds to go.

okay, well hmm, i could of course counter-claim that Lederman also gave HIS card from ringside and was every bit as sure as you are, of an 8 point differential between his scoring and yours... but of course i don't like lederman so that would be a stupid line to take... bugger i've gone and done it

i guess i am looking for something a little less unequivocal than 'certainty' and 'assurance' in a fight with 4/5 'swing rounds'

would you agree 6/7/8/9 were at least open to question or are you going all 'JMM won that fight, FACT' on us?

my example: when i watch with a certain mate we compare scores at the end of each round, with the subsidiary question 'were those unanimous 3/0 each judge scores it that way' type rounds, or were they potential 2/1 splits either way type rounds where you can see why at least 1 judge might dissent.

there doesn't seem to be room for that kind of leeway in your take on the fight?

It is only my opinion of course, but I thought that Pacman had his ears boxed off from 3-12, so did most of the press at ringside that I was sat with also. Most of them seemed to have Marquez winning a close, but clear fight.

It's a while since I've watched it, might be interesting to do so again - but those were my feelings at the time, and on watching a rerun the next day.

i found lederman's scorecard a bit of a stretch, to say the least.

Looking forward to this ..
Cotto TKO9

Can anybody really compare Pacman to a Margarito at 147 or even 145?

so, cotto lost to a true great. what has pac done to become such a devastating ring warrior?
the filipinos next door were partying all night as predicted - even had to tell them to go inside the house to carry on the party. but if we had a man like pac dominating boxing i'd be doing the same. :TU:
